I have been involved with the Keene Lions Club for six years now; I have loved and enjoyed every moment of it. My first show being “Seussical the Musical,” I fell in love with what the Keene Lions Club does for great of our community. Since being part of the theatrics of the club with their annual shows, I have served as an ensemble member, audition accompanist, and keyboardist for the orchestra. No matter the experience or task given at hand, I have always felt welcomed by everyone’s encouraging personalities, and talents. When I first took part in the shows, I wasn’t sure what the ‘mission’ was, I just thought it was a really great ensemble that performs a new show each year. I soon learned that everyone in the show, as well as the audience
...join so long ago I never really knew I 'd end up here doing what I do. It seems like the common theme for me is seeing something and saying “I can 't do that” then pursuing it until I can. One of my fondest memories is watching someone at the percussion concert play a marimba solo when I was in sixth grade and just looking over at Justin molder and laughing saying “wow I can 't do that” now I do that all the time. I didn 't think I could ever be the leader of a group like this it seemed like too much for me, but now after watching and being in this program and seeing where it could go and what I can do, I want to help take it there. I feel great about next year no matter what happens but I 'm ready to step up, I 'm ready take on whatever I have to to make this year the best year yet. Not just for me but for us all every last one of us in this great family I call home.
At Community Boards, the skills and disciplines that I learned was that I was able to handle clients through phone calls more effectively and in a manner in which I can be neutral. I also learned to be very patient with some clients over the phone, where some phone calls had spent over an hour of the client’s time talking to me about their issues at their residence. I was able to cultivate the skill of being able to use different communication styles in order to deal with certain people and their styles, for often I would have to deal with people that very emotional, because of their situation, whether they be angry, sad, or hopeless, I had to alter my style of communication to accommodate their needs and try to calm them down. Although I
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning
Within school, I have participated in Glee Club/Chorus and Drama Club. I have a strong interest and love of both and hope to continue with them in the future. Last year, I had the privilege of being selected for our school's select choir, North Naturals. The Congregation Sons of Israel in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania honored us with the chance to perform at their annual Holocaust Memorial Service. The Messiah College Women's Choir also invited us to perform as a guest in their annual spring concert, in which I performed a solo, along with some members of the Women's Chorus. This year, I consider it a great prestige to say I participate in my school's select choir for ninth- and tenth-graders- Cantamos. In Drama Club, I have performed a variety
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the
It was apparent that Rosenblum was familiar with the Sanctuary’s community because as soon as he entered, he began talking to each of the audience members he recognized. Though I had never witnessed one of his performances, he also said a simple greeting to me as he walked past. Davis followed suit when she entered the Sanctuary. She sat down with Rosenblum in one of the pews to catch up with the current events of audience member’s lives. This pre-show element made the experience even more welcoming, relaxing, and friendly. Once it was time for the concert to begin, the director of the Sanctuary introduced each performer. Once Davis and Rosenblum were settled, Davis explained how the concert was going to be a calm and fun night. She chatted with the audience talking about her preparation for the night and how excited she was to be visiting the Sanctuary with Rosenblum. Throughout the concert, Davis would tell little stories or continue speaking to the audience in between pieces. This incorporated the audience into the concert and created a friendly relationship between performers and audience. Finally, Rosenblum and Davis made decisions on what pieces they would play in the moment. After each ended, they would ask what the other felt like performing next. Most often they chose their favorites or had specific pieces in mind. Occasionally, Rosenblum would simply begin playing a piece,
During the summer after I graduated from high school, the pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Pastor Ron Barber, and his wife, Mary-Beth, approached me about committing to their ministry full-time. After a few weeks of thoughtful consideration, I decided that this would be a wonderful opportunity to improve my musical abilities and gain experience. For just over two years, I’ve been Pine Grove’s only full-time pianist. Over the course of this past semester, I volunteered an average of three hours per week at Pine Grove Baptist Church; and I was overwhelmingly grateful to receive credit for my time.
Throughout my years attending Woodside, I joined the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). Being involved with these two clubs so far has provided me with the astonishing lessons that I will need in life to have a successful future for myself. Also, I am planning to go very far in life after high school due to these two important clubs because of the many ways they have helped me as an individual. Not only did I participate in clubs but I have also volunteered at Greenwood Elementary School. Being a volunteer at this school involved me working with kindergarteners and 1st graders. My duties included reading to the children, helping with any assigned classwork or homework, making sure they are safe, and assisting the teachers with anything they needed help with. I have always had a passion of helping others and volunteering at Greenwood was a very enjoyable experience for
So the next year when I was given a board member position I focused solely on volunteering for Friends 4 Hope. Every Thursday was my favorite day of the week, since there were Game Days where we can play games with a small group of Hope students. Soon after these students slowly began to become my friends. To me I was finally glad to be comfortable around my new friends, but to them it meant a lot more. They never were fully accepted into society as regular people, and our club was able to encourage integration of that.
I feel strongly that the importance of representation onstage is critical to the mission of broadening the types of people that can be influenced
During my junior year of high school, I was an officer in my school’s Interact Club. We usually participate in at least one service trip each month which is coordinated by our activity supervisor, Mrs. Lazzaro. Last year, I reached out to the Activities
My high school is a school for the arts, and so I am a chorus major there. Outside of learning music and preparing for our concerts, we also make it a point to share our art with the community every year. My favorite community service event is definitely our annual nursing home caroling tours, in which we visit several nursing homes in the area and sing for and interact with their members. Many of them feel lonely in these nursing homes, especially during the holiday season. Therefore, we always make it a point to visit and spread some cheer, showing them that they are indeed still cared for. In the past, we have also participated in other projects such as recording music for premature infants to hear while in the neonatal intensive care unit, as well as music for hospice members and their families. This year during our spring concert, our goal is to bring awareness to and collect support for the needy children in Africa through a donation drive for basic medicine to send to them. We are dedicating a section of the concert to African folk music, and will also hear from speakers who were adopted as children from their impoverished, former homes in Africa and now actively contribute their service to helping other such
As a student in the North Branford School District, I have participated and led several community service-based events including the annual Matt’s Mission 5K, Night to Care, and Community Round Up. I am truly passionate about
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
In reflection on my learning experience in the group class, I have gained clarity on what sorts of competencies of facilitating group therapy, as well as in what areas social workers and students tend to feel most strong in my practice. Regarding my specific gains in competencies, I feel that I learned the most and was most likely to gain specific group facilitating competencies at the weekly class. Learning in group class is taught me the tools to use to work with groups therapy, communities and also with individuals through the process of changes. In this past three months I think a lot of opportunities have been created to shadowing with (beside and behind) and being a part of group members to learn. In addition, this class has taught me about the skills and how effectively help
