We all have a purpose on this pale-blue dot we call Earth; mine is to make a difference for youth. Throughout the past twelve years of school, I have stayed involved in various community service projects, became a leader through Rotary programs, and shared my knowledge in academia. As a Matt’s Mission Scholarship recipient, I will represent the very characteristics that are highly desired in students across the world such as respectful, responsible, supportive, empathetic, considerate, and most importantly, loving. As a student in the North Branford School District, I have participated and led several community service-based events including the annual Matt’s Mission 5K, Night to Care, and Community Round Up. I am truly passionate about …show more content…
In order to be a Matt’s Mission Scholarship recipient, the student must be kind, considerate, and supportive. Over the past years, I have become involved in the life skills classroom with students of various disabilities such as autism, William’s Syndrome, and Trisomy Twenty-Three to name a few. Each of them has become one of my best friends even on the darkest of days. Their positivity has inspired me each class as I teach them about leadership, mathematics, literacy, and even science. We focus on the basic life skills that they would otherwise not be exposed to including the interview process, transportation, balancing a checkbook, shopping in the mall, and hygiene. I have even spent every single lunch for the past several years with several of the life skills students. One of my favorite memories was when a young man, Ian, told me that I was the ‘bestest’ friend he ever had and he never wanted me to graduate because I made him feel safe and cared for. When he said this, I knew I was being called to become a Special Education teacher. Being someone’s friend is not always about keeping communication via text or email; it is about maintaining the social interactions that better our

As a student that is currently seeking a career in the medical professions, I have had to routinely contemplate my reasons for pursuing such an extensive education program in a field that is constantly demanding excessive time and effort. I know of students—many friends and acquaintances of mine included—that have the most sure-fire, inspirational stories that align with their desire to become doctors, surgeons, physician assistants, etc. They always seemed to have a story that emphasized their desire to “give back” what they have received from the medical community. Because of that, ever since the beginning of high school, I have been trying to find an extraordinary reason, a purpose for my medical pursuits. Perhaps I could justify my passion for
Throughout high school I have dreamed of having the opportunity to attend Indiana University. I have a true passion for babies. I love to learn how babies are developed and how they become such an amazing part of the world. Therefore, I would like to apply to Indiana University and pursue a degree in Pediatric Nursing. I would love to be able to deliver babies and deliver new life into this earth. There are several opportunities available for me to get involved with new leadership opportunities. I want to be able to be a leader for all age groups.
Throughout the fall semester I did community service at a thrift shop and soup kitchen in Lawrence. There I experienced things I have never encountered before in my life. These experiences have taught me a lot, and have truly made me look at America's underprivileged, in a new light.

Because of this holistic take on the world, I have always immersed myself in plans that support the aid of both my local community and the international community. As President of the Abbey Park Student Council, I have spearheaded and organized various efforts to fundraise and support various initiatives such as the Canadian Cancer Society and Kicks for Change at a local level, and Doctors Without Borders at an international level, where we raised a total of $50,000
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
When returning to school as a non-traditional student you need to set goals for yourself. I have decided to return to school as a non-traditional student, at the age of 35. Almost all of my adulthood was spent in the United States Marine Corps. Due to scheduling conflicts during my time in the military I was unable to attend college. Now that I am out of the Military it has been hard to secure a new career path, because businesses want someone with a degree.

The experiences of Jesuit priests in Latin America is a formable topic to take on but Roland Joffe accepts the challenge in his movie The Mission. The film, which is based on true events, is set in northeastern Argentina and the western Paraguayan jungle during the 1740s. Fr. Gabriel (Jeremy Irons), is a Jesuit priest who starts a mission with the goal of converting Guarani Indians to Christianity. In the process of building the mission, he meets Roderigo Mendoza, a mercenary and slave trader who is in jail for killing his brother. Eventually, Roderigo reluctantly agrees to carry out a penance and accompany the priest back to help with the mission. Once he arrives, Roderigo not only forms strong relationships with the Indians, but converts
