CVS Health Corporation is very popular in the world of retail pharmacy. This corporation’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats can be reviewed by a simple SWOT analysis. In order to get a basic picture of how well the company is performing, it is important to look at all aspects of a SWOT analysis. By including both strengths and weaknesses in a company’s analysis, there is less room for bias for or against the company. According to an analysis created by Marketline, CVS’s strength comes from its large network of stores, ExtraCare loyalty program, and strong financial performance (“CVS Health Corporation SWOT ANALYSIS,” 2015). There are also several opportunities available to the company, such as possible acquisitions, new walk-in medical clinics, and the increased demand for services by the aging US population. CVS is a strong company; however, according to Marketline, “allegations against CVS’s refill practices triggered monitoring and investigations, and threats against CVS include …show more content…
retail pharmacy competition and price wars with PBM industry” (“CVS Health Corporation SWOT ANALYSIS,” 2015). Though CVS has its fair share of strengths and weaknesses, it still manages to stand out as a strong corporation.
One reason is that it can keep up with the changing times and the development of increased technological advances. CVS has introduced several new digital pharmacy tools in order to help make it easier for customers to easily and conveniently refill and keep up with medication prescriptions. These tools include Apple watch integration; scan paper script, insurance card scan, MedRemind, and In-Store pharmacy messages. (“700 Good Reasons,” 2015). Each of these tools can be used with the purpose of keeping up with prescriptions, sharing information with pharmacists, cost savings, and gaining information about medications. CVS’s willingness to adapt to the changing world is a sure sign of strength for the corporation. Making things like prescription management easier for customers is wise of CVS, because people like to get things done quickly and
efficiently. An analysis of CVS shows that the company not only looks after its customers, but its employees as well. Smoking cessation is a hot topic, with abundant research showing the negative health effects of tobacco. CVS is on board with the campaign to encourage smokers to quit smoking. The American Society of Safety Engineers praises CVS‘s incentive program that gives its employees incentives to stop smoking. According to the article, “the CVS program asks participants to pay a $50 deposit, which they will get back upon successfully completing the program. They are also rewarded with $700 from the company,” (“CVS Health,” 2015). CVS Health Corporation is, overall, a strong company. With a promising market, willingness and ability to adapt to technological advances, and employee health incentive programs, this company is on the right track to remaining successful. If CVS leaders continue to keep the company flexible, yet reliable, CVS will be around for many more years to come.
