In the past, high school teachers have prepared their students for the real world by ensuring they are capable of writing letters by hand in both the printing and cursive. However, all of that fell short when typewriters were introduced. Preparing students for future careers had to be modified to include teaching them how to use typewriters accurately. Today, technology is vastly changing, and the use of computers has changed the face of the classroom as well as the business industry. Moreover, the use of computers is widespread and has it has become a necessity for students to understand the proper use of this technology, including the accurate use keyboarding.

the various task within an organization such as preparing business correspondences, e-mails, creating websites and tracking expenses. Moreover, understanding the skill of keyboarding is an essential skill for all college students to master due to the necessity of typing research papers, reports, and note-taking. Students today are aware of the basic understanding of how to operate computers, many are not familiar with the proper techniques involving finger strokes which increases typing speed and accuracy. Following appropriate keyboarding technique can not only improve speed and efficiency, but it could also prevent injuries and strains related to the repetitive and time-consuming typing that every college student experiences. Course Foundation In most curriculum keyboarding is a three credit hour course designed for beginners.
The foundation of a keyboarding class sets students up for success by introducing essential concepts, computing, and proper typing technique. Subsequently, other necessary fundamental programs are presented such as Microsoft Office applications to create business envelopes and letters, academic and business reports, tables and other related documents. It also provides an understanding of privacy and security setting (Doc, n.d.). keypad. Developing Objectives Educators are responsible for developing some learning objectives and sets of learning experiences that are consistent with the presumptions of that model and include steps to academic achievement. Understanding the course objectives, what educational process is needed to attain and what the students need to be successful are all goals which must be consistent with the philosophy and vision of the education. For example, a school that is developing a keyboarding curriculum could create a target that students will identify, memorize the standard keys for speed and accuracy. However, some specific objectives are vital to ensure the student's success such as correct finger placement and techniques, learning the alpha-numeric computer keyboard. Evaluating Based on Learning Experiences Educators should also identify educational experiences related to the purpose, such as how can a learning experience be designated in obtaining objectives or developing learning experiences and techniques that will allow the students to achieve goals.
Some examples are if students need to meet the aim of identifying the alpha-numeric computer keyboard or utilizing the proper finger placement and techniques. The learning experience could be a demonstration by the teacher of typing a memo using the correct methods. The teacher may ask a student to discuss the proper hand placement on the home row and to discuss the importance of using the proper
techniques. Organize the learning experiences in ways consistent with the model with the first steps of understanding the full layout of the computer keyboard due to there being various types of keyboard layouts; the instructor most likely would use the most common layout known as the "QWERTY" layout. Practicing hand placement and posture also establishes a great foundation before the initial typing instruction begins. Then ideally begin practicing each key on the home row before branching out to the other key strokes located near the home row, to develop a feel for typing and returning to home row (VanHuss, 2011). Learning through doing offers an essential understanding for a beginner typists at all levels. Especially, when the goal of gaining further knowledge of keyboard functions while increasing typing speed and accuracy. Fundamental knowledge of the basics of keyboarding is easily mastered, by utilizing the most critical step, practice. The more a typist practices, the faster and more accurate they become. Lastly, college keyboarding is an essential skill that everyone should master. With the state of technology today, it is imperative to include the skill of keyboarding as a vital part of any school’s curriculum. Mastering keyboarding will afford many college students the opportunity to compete and succeed in this global society.
The first strategy of found with the chapter is “Say it, Write it”,” this strategy is used in a grade Kindergarten and 1st grade in addition to 3rd cursive handwriting. The teacher will provide each student with a dry erase board and marker for the activity. The teacher will say the letter she wants the students to write and then demonstrate by writing the letter on their own dry erase board. The teacher will then hide the demonstration and tell the students to “write it” in 10 seconds. When the time is up, the teacher will make note of the students who was unable to write the letter. The teacher will advise the student to erase the letter and rewrite it with only 7 seconds, they will complete this practice within 5 seconds until they get to 2 seconds to which they are to show legible handwriting. As mention before, the student I am working with struggles with legible handwriting, therefore this strategy will be used a as practice for the student to build her writing
Students will pull out their sight words. The word will also be written on the board. The educator will ask the students to identify each letter in their sight words. The educator will explain to the students that letters form words and words form sentences. Tell the students what a space is and the definition of sentence. The educator will put different words together to form a sentences (i.e. The cat is fun.).
In the article, the author is quick to mention the flaws of typed notes and the advantages of handwritten notes. It is mentioned how in two of the three studies conducted, the “longhand note takers performed better” than the laptop users. Throughout the article, the author sticks to their view that handwritten notes are more conventional for classroom use than laptops. While the support for handwritten notes is superior, the author has failed to include any counter argument that could support the claim that typed notes are a better choice over writing notes by
Almost everyone attends a school at one time in their life whether the classroom includes technology or not. Research shows that technology isn’t used as often as one might think. The article, “High Access and Low use of technology in High School Classrooms” illustrates the use of technology by stating that only one in ten of elementary and middle school teachers are daily users of computers (Cuban, Kirkpatrick, Peck). Most schools now have classrooms that use technology throughout the entire class time and even at home to do homework. Although some people might agree with the use of technology in class, it is more harmful to the students than useful. It can cause many distractions, it can be difficult to use and can take away from learning time.
Computer has made the life easier by providing various applications and technologies. For example, while computer has replaced typewriter, it helps the students to become a better writer as they can “revise text, rearrange paragraphs, and experiment with the tone and shape of an essay” () while using word processing. Thus, the computer helps the students to improvise their writing. Human relationship with co...
With the rapid growth of technology in America’s society today, the use of computers in school classrooms has increased tremendously—an action that certainly has become beneficial to students, educators, and parents. The use of computers has positively skyrocketed over the past ten years. Not only are computers utilized daily in large companies across the world, but the everyday use in classrooms has also become prevalent. Using modern technology to assist school instructors with his or her daily lessons should definitely be regarded as a positive, acceptable method of instruction and not definitely does not prohibit students from understanding or critical thinking.
Image a school with laptops available to each student to complete their class notes, teachers who are able to help their students through the screens of their computer, children who are excited to learn about numbers with the help of cute, animated characters. With the endless advancement of today’s technology, schools across the world have begun integrating various technology into their curriculum. These devices have the potential to greatly impact students in their learning. When a school opts to use technology in a school setting, the most important factors they should take into consideration are the benefits of using technological devices, the effectiveness of technology used
In spite of the many benefits of computers, there are also quite a few arguments about them, one of which is the bad effect some believe they are having on children's education and learning. Before computers became really popular where almost every household had one students did research papers manually and used a type writer to type papers or hand write their papers, illiteracy is a big issue, and many people say that computers are the reason for that. Younger students these days are asked to type papers which may not be a problem for older students but for younger students they need to do assignments that are hand written to develop their writing skills. If a younger student is typing all their assignments it can have a great affect on their grammar because they are using the comp...
For this reason, further advancement and integration of technology in every aspect of life is undoubtedly a critical element of the future of our society. Technologies that we; in the year 2014, cannot possibly imagine or comprehend, will be at the forefront of the next generation’s life; changing the way that they think, act, learn, and even feel. It is highly important that we take this inevitability into consideration when educating the children of today that will become the adults of tomorrow. As the world changes and job markets change, it is critical that we; as educators, teach children how to use the tools of today so that they might be better equipped to adapt to tomorrow’s technologies. Working with the technologies that have already been developed, educators are able to teach in new ways, with new tools, and students are able to begin working with computers and other devices from a young age and gain a high quality education that puts the student at the center of the learning process. Technology is now a fundamental facilitator in the learning process, and an important commodity in the field of education; enhancing learning in many ways f...
It is very hard not to realize that technology has overpowered education in many ways. “Technology integration is similar to a tidal wave, growing silently in strength, then falling with an unstoppable roar upon those who paid no attention or showed little interest” (Guhlin, 40). Nowadays, computers are almost considered a necessity in the classroom, and are the main component of technology integration. Computers are being used in more numerous ways, besides only being used for basic word processing. With a simple computer, copious availabilities of technologies can be used in the classroom. “The one thing that is so great about the computer is that it does give a lot of instruction--and you don't need to have hearing to take advantage of it” (Anderson, 12). It’s amazing how one simple screen can provide everlasting opportunity for learning.
Half the time, I’d be lucky if I managed to find the keys on the keyboard and make them appear on the screen. After a while, I just abandoned the idea of being able to type, telling myself that it wasn’t for me and that if I ever needed to type there was nothing wrong with my method of using two fingers. Years have now passed and I was about to go into middle school. When picking my classes, I chose to take a block class that would change every marking period because it’d allow me to get a variety of different classes and fill my elective which was very compelling. What I didn’t realize was that the very first class was keyboarding and the only thing that we’d be doing the entire hour every day for a whole marking period would just be typing.

Schools need to incorporate technology education into all areas of curriculum. Students need to be able to understand not only the how-to of computers, but they need to understand when to use it, where to use it, and why it should be used. Many students only have a basic working knowledge of computer...
There is no doubt that technology has changed the world in which we live. The world has been transformed with new advances in technology. This is why it is so important to educate elementary students on technology education. The use of technology in education provides students with technology literacy, information literacy, capacity for life-long learning and other skills necessary for the 21st century workplace. If students are taught how to use laptops to help them in their career now than it can increase productivity in the future. “America is falling from its once prominent position as the world’s leader in technology and science. Technology helps prepare students for a world where they will compete with the best and brightest individuals
