In the past, high school teachers have prepared their students for the real world by ensuring they are capable of writing letters by hand in both the printing and cursive. However, all of that fell short when typewriters were introduced. Preparing students for future careers had to be modified to include teaching them how to use typewriters accurately. Today, technology is vastly changing, and the use of computers has changed the face of the classroom as well as the business industry. Moreover, the use of computers is widespread and has it has become a necessity for students to understand the proper use of this technology, including the accurate use keyboarding.

The foundation of a keyboarding class sets students up for success by introducing essential concepts, computing, and proper typing technique. Subsequently, other necessary fundamental programs are presented such as Microsoft Office applications to create business envelopes and letters, academic and business reports, tables and other related documents.
