In this day and age, teenagers can avoid almost anything. They have the capabilities to disconnect themselves from the influence of their peers, parents, school, and even the law. However, there is one obstacle many teenagers have difficulty in avoiding: trouble. The influence of breaking the law among these developing adults is higher than ever before, mainly due to the power of social media and the idolization of criminals. Not much can be done to break this sphere of influence, but setting a curfew may help discourage, prevent, and protect the future of society from unlawful behavior. Being home at such an hour would also allow students to attain an appropriate amount of sleep, as it is proven that a student with a healthy eight to ten hours of sleep performs much better academically than a student deprived of sleep. Schoolnight curfews also discourage criminal activity late at night, which could lead to an arrest or hangover that could directly intervene with an absence of school the next day. These just go to show that weeknight curfews help prepare the next generation for a brighter impact on society through a stronger academic demeanor. Juvenile criminal activity is a civic issue that has the capability to completely ruin one's life. Many juveniles commit crimes at night that go on their records forever, preventing them from attending a quality school and making it difficult to land a well-paying job. A curfew may not completely bring criminal activity to a screeching hault, but it has the power to significantly reduce it. Crimes are most easily committed after midnight on weekends, and a midnight curfew would certainly help prevent them from occuring among society's youth.
