The Importance of a Curfew

572 Words2 Pages

Curfew is the time at which you should be back home and safe. Most High Schooler’s will argue that “it’s stupid” and “I won’t get in trouble anyways”. Curfew for High Schooler’s and younger children is an excellent idea because it keeps students in line and out of possible trouble. If curfew was enforced it would eventually help kids be more responsible and trust worthy. Although some might think otherwise, High Schooler's are irresponsible and can not be trusted enough to not have a curfew. Students need to be supervised after a specific time of night. This isn’t because they will do something disruptive, but they might run into trouble and not know how to react. Stated in an article by Ebscohost, “Hundreds of U.S. cities have laws of curfew that apply to kids 17 and younger, and with that crimes and deaths have went down significantly over the last couple of years”. This valid fact supports the opposition that curfew is over all a good idea for students and parents. If more cities could recognize this now the world can be a safer place. In another example while being in darkness you are more vulnerable to get hurt. You cannot see as easily as you would if you were in light thus making it easier to hurt you. While being inside in a well-lit room or sleeping, you are guaranteed to be much more safer than being outside. Students shouldn’t even be out that late; there is no need to be. All stores are closed, no one is outside, and you are just waiting for trouble to strike. Not only can they get into trouble, but they can also run into trouble. High Schooler’s are easy targets for trouble, plain and simple. If the police have heard of a crime committed and it is late at night and they see a group of High Schoolers they will question you and maybe even bring you to the station. In 1997 9 out of 10 cities said that curfews are a good use of police officers time and 88 % observed that enforcing curfews made their streets safer. If curfews can be inflicted and put into play, students may have much more opportunities to succeed and be better than the people before them. In another example if students are home by curfew there is no reason for trouble. This keeps them safe and it keeps their friends safe.
