There are two main climatic zones in Georgia. It is generally a moderate and Mediterranean-like in the west near the Black Sea coast and extremely cold winters in the mountains. The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range plays an important role in moderating Georgia's climate and protects the nation from the colder air masses moving out of Russia from the north. While the Lesser Caucasus Mountains protect the majority of the country from the dry and hot air masses from the south. Also Georgia’s eastern plains are shielded by these mountains from weather that moves inland from the Black Sea.
Temperatures during the summer average 20° C to 24° C and 2° C to 4° C during the winter. The Humidity is generally low with about 500 to 800 millimeters of rainfall per year. Up at the higher elevations the precipitation can be up to twice as heavy as compaired to the eastern plains. The climate in western Georgia is subtropical up to about 650 meters of elevation. Most believe that the highest mountain range is The Alps in Europe. The Caucasus Mountains along the border of Georgia and Russia have higher peaks. The highest peak of this mountain range is in Russia, Georgia has the second highest. The Shkara mountain sits at 5,193m (17,040ft). This beats Mont Blanc by nearly 400m (1,312ft). These dramatic mountains, are mentioned in Greek mythology as one of the pillars holding up the world. These mountains are also where it is said that Zeus tied up Prometheus, to have his liver eaten by eagles. (www.bbc.co.uk)
Economy:
Georgian’s GDP growth became extremely slow after the August 2008 conflict with neighboring Russia. Their economy rebounded in 2010 to 2012, having growth rates above 6% per year, but still has not fully recovered. Un...

The gifts are normally not expensive and are viewed that it is more about the thought of giving the gift. If you are invited to a Georgian home you should bring flowers, imported sweets or chocolates to give the host. When you give flowers, remember to give an odd number as even numbers are only used for funerals. It is custom for the host to open the gift right away, so do not be surprised by this. Also bring a small gift for the children of the home are always appreciated. Our culture normally wraps gifts with elaborate wrapping papers and bows.
