A Crisis Management Plan is a straightforward guiding plan that provides a response system to any major crisis and or emergency that occurs on campus. The Crisis Management Plan’s nature is to respond to any major crisis within the framework being implemented through the use of such plan. First and foremost, it is a detailed documentation, which explains the plan in a thorough way, giving readers an insight on what the plan has to offer. The Fairfax county school’s document describes each person’s role giving a detailed outline of the steps needed to be taken during an emergency crisis. Many schools such as Duluth High School does not provide such vivid details on such plans. I
think that it is very important to announce each person’s role in the plan in the event that a parent or someone need some type of information regarding their hurt child. There are also maps, resource guidance and references applicable for readers in the guide that were used to create such substantial plan. The resources were used as a portrayal guidance for readers such as teachers, parents, and administrators to use and follow. In a crisis, guidance is the number one source to ensure safety. The bible says, “I trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways I acknowledge Him and He directs my paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) The Fairfax Public County School has a detailed guidance as well and a listing of local community agencies that are partners with the school. This is very imperative to ensure that such plan has community support to ensure that the plan is followed correctly. As stated in Drexler, a community of the mind in a Christian school can devote resources to advance followers of the community into a learning community that performs teamwork, collaboration, and the developmental use of all gifts (Drexler, 2007). In this case, ensuring that a collaborative team work is conducted to build a Crisis Management Plan is important, and that is what Fairfax Public County School have. Weaknesses: There were several weaknesses throughout this documentation, but the main one that needs to be address immediately is the need for detailed maps. The plan itself mentions the need for effective planning and maps of the school, but it does not provide an archetypal on the preparation of the maps, and examples of the map usage. By having the above things would provide reliability of the actual plan, and how it will effect students’ safety, to ensure that crisis responders would have some form of idea of the provided information being given/available. Yes the plan shows a great deal of communication, but the plan does not specifically states who and what will respond to such crises, which could promote difficulty and confusion during crises.

Crisis interventions should be organized and well planned for them to be useful in crisis situations. As noted by Rosen, Greene, Young and Norris (2010), crisis counseling has become an important component of schools and community agencies to name a few, especially to the federal government, rendering assistance to communities recovering from disasters such as hurricanes and fires and other major casualty crises.

Summary An announced multidimensional crisis simulation was developed in conjunction with the site Operations Manager (VP Operations) and local fire department to allow the site incident response and Crisis Management Team to exercise their teams by demonstrating and practicing their capabilities related to incident response, crisis management, and business continuity. The exercise was used to validate capability, processes, improve inter-organizational coordination, and provide for improvisational practice and decisions. The simulation was requested to provide opportunity for the site Crisis Management Team to under stress of a simulation practice procedures and identify improvements. Preparation for the simulation occurred through multiple site visits and discussions that allowed for facts gathering, discussion, and procedure review.

For example, the fact that nearly 91% of Americans live in a moderate to high risk of natural disasters, only 16% take a preparation for natural disaster (Ripley, 2006).
