At the beginning of the term, I preconceived that this Cornerstone Course would only be about how to get through college. When I settled into the class, I realized that it focuses more on getting to know ourselves better and how we can apply that to school and our everyday lives. Cornerstone has expanded my knowledge about myself as an individual. Although there were many topics that I found intriguing in this Cornerstone Class, there were two that really stood apart from the rest: the personality assessment and the time management segments. They were the two most relatable subjects. The personality assessment that I took within the first two weeks of school, I found beneficial for me. There was no right or wrong answer to the test; it was …show more content…
I believe it made an impact on my day to day life. Understanding how to manage my time will give me a firm foundation in my college courses. Doing Covey’s Quadrants worksheet gave me the opportunity to organize how I spend my time, where I waste time, what the results of my actions could possibly lead to, and what strategies I can use to prevent time wasting. I learned that there are little things such as social media and using my phone that I can spend less time doing and it will save me more time for things that are momentous such as acquiring more rest at night. Not only, but also, the time log and analysis questions that I answered from my Key To College Success Compact textbook made me think a little more in depth. The textbook gave tips on planning a schedule and managing that schedule that was planned; it stated “…. create a schedule that maximizes your strengths, minimizes your weakness, and reduce stress.” When I prerecorded how I would spend the week of Oct.4th-Oct.20th, I observed that the majority of my time during the week is spent doing the same activities that keep me productive and will later reward me, and that is work, school, and
A schedule of a student becomes very tight as they need to balance everything out in all ways they can. For example, this year due to me taking a College Now class I have needed to compromise my entire schedule, donating another hour of my life into school. Through the past years of high school my classes started at 8:00 AM, however, now my classes start at 7:00 AM. Along with this class I have regents based classes which I manage such as Physics, English, and U.S. History, yet I take Pre-Calc this year. As a student, I always hear other students around the school complaining about the amount of work they have to do, however, they don’t realize that this work is what leads to their future success. For me complaining is not a valid excuse, as I certainly believe that there should be a deadline for everything because we can manage everything as long as we are determined. A person like me, who receives an assignment, which may be due in the next two weeks will manage their time out and complete it in the next two days, thinking that what if I have more things to do. Throughout all the school years that I have attended, there has not been one assignment that I didn’t complete or didn’t hand it in on time. Where I come from and the teachings of my parents, have taught me that family time and family are two significant parts of your life, which no matter what happens
Scheduling and planning are necessary to be successful as a working student. Setting time aside for school assignments is a priority, but it is also important to build in personal time for you, your family, and friends (Blais & Hayes, 2011). S...
Goal 2- Garner experience and practice in treatment planning and assessments through performing psychosocial and diagnostic assessments; consider methods of interventions appropriate to client presentation; develop treatment plans with supervisor for assigned clients.
I have often wondered what it would be like to experience the freedom of choosing my own class schedule. This has to be infinitely more stimulating and enjoyable. I am also aware that college will be significantly more challenging, but I have always found it easier to study for a class that interests me. I am willing to accept the fact that as long as I am in school, there will be required courses which may not engender excitement or enthusiasm; however, success should not be as difficult to achieve due to the maturity that is developing during this last year of high school. In addition, I have gained an understanding of the benefit of being well rounded. There is value in all classes taken. It helps to know that even my least favorite subject will contribute to the ultimate goal of personal and career development.
I have personally grown by increasing my desire to learn and apply what I have learned with a new found confidence. I also believe this program made me more aware of the importance of evidence based practice, and patient centered care. I strongly believe that this knowledge will help me become a better nurse in future. While doing research and writing for my capstone paper, I have developed a ton of respect for all of the work and effort that goes in creating a policy and implementing it. The program has also helped me develop new skills that will aid me in this field. In fact, I believe that this new found knowledge has given me the confidence to advance my career in nursing.
Utility of assessment. Why are these types of personality assessments useful? Did you find the results useful? Why or why not?
I found the results of my self-assessments to be a very insightful and accurate description of myself. The results of the learning styles test and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II are very valuable for examining my personality traits and learning style and making improvements as needed.

Without a doubt the lessons and exercises on time management were the most meaningful to me. They brought insight into why I seemed to be constantly working yet still never really got anything I wanted to accomplish throughout the day finished. I realized the majority of the activities I had been spending the most time on didn’t reflect my values of hard work and self discipline and long term academic goals to be successful in college. This motivated to completely change the way I managed my time by effectively striking a balance between my maintenance, committed, and free time.
I understand my styles and behaviors better now. Too bad I didn’t take this course earlier in life. Understanding myself will help me understand other people better I believe. That will be helpful concidering the profession I intend to have.
What do we know about time management? As adults we should know a lot about time management. We all strive to become the best that we can be. This alone should encourage us to learn about time management. Every aspect of our lives depends on it. If we try to plan, organize, and execute our ideas most of the time we can manage it well, but when we go the other route, and jump out there feet first, most of the time we do not do as well. This is not the case in every light, but usually it is the norm. Even as we sit in class trying to better ourselves by improving on our education, we learn that we must manage time to the best of our abilities. This is not done only for school, but for our families for those of us that have children and spouses. A lot of the time, we manage to get everything done and leave ourselves out in the cold when it comes to making time for ourselves. If it is not our job or school we are trying to meet someone else's needs.
Taking a personality test is something that I have had to do a few times. First in college while going for my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, then while attending Airman Leadership School, and finally for this class. Taking these test all three times I have received similar if not the same results so I think that I have answered these truthful each time. Some of the tests that were required for this class were more in depth, taking 82 sub test
Well, I would have to say things have changed for the better….I think. This quarter I actually had some interest in what we were doing. I could do a lot of opinionated things like our reflection things. Normally your 3rd quarter is the worst but not this year in Mrs. Dickson’s College prep. English Class, I ended up doing all my work, well that I know of, and I participated in just about everything. So here we go, I am gonna sum it all up in these next few paragraphs.
It’s hard to succeed in college. Especially harder to succeed when you have things you want and need to do, like work to pay the bills, or hangout with friends and family to relieve the stress of school. You can’t let your work and school schedules interfere with each other and there is a way prevent that. The way to succeed in college is to plan your days so that you use your time efficiently.
Taking any type of personality test can lead to a lot of thought and reflection on yourself,
