From the videos to the exam topics a variety of the key concepts presented strongly relate to life experience I have encountered personally and in my organization.
To begin, goal setting has always been a priority in my life, and I couldn’t agree more with Sanger-Harris that the characteristics of effective goals are through using SMART goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound; these goals are not only beneficial to an individual, but incorporating them in the workplace has an even greater impact. A SMART goal I have been working toward is graduating college. This goal of mine is no doubt a SMART goal, and I look forward to the day it is achieved. Along with this treasured goal, my workplace sets monthly goals for the employees to reach, and the opportunity to achieve these goals as a team is very motivating. While I struggled for many years with low self-esteem, as I strongly believed what other people thought of me, I am proud to say today I have a much higher self-esteem. Many people’s perceptions of their own skills, strengths, and weaknesses are different, more some than others. I set goals for myself all the time in many different aspects of my life. This experience was different because I don’t always take the time to write out goals. Taking this extra step allows you to plan for success despite barriers that may arise due to your environment or social systems. In Conclusion, contrary to the presumption that most people suffer from low self-esteem or feelings of inferiority, it is found that most people exhibit a self-serving bias. Individuals typically rate their selves better than average on subjective, desirable traits and abilities. Some individuals display overconfidence, which can lead to eventual feelings of failure. I have a self-serving bias as well as most everyone else, even though I may not even notice it. So next time you find yourself saying, "I was in a bad mood that day," "A lot of people make that same mistake," or "I can do it better myself," think about what you are saying and maybe you might catch your self serving bias.
