Compare and Contrast Essay Many people’s perceptions of their own skills, strengths, and weaknesses are different, more some than others. Everyone’s personality is a bit different: Some have very high self-esteem, some are very egotistical, some don’t believe in themselves, etc. Most of the time, my self esteem is usually within a delicate balance of “you aren’t as good as you seem” and “you’re doing fine, relax, you’ll turn out just fine.” However, there are a pair of people that will believe in you no matter what you do: your parents. They will always be there for you, to help you succeed, and instill into yourself more self-esteem. My self-esteem has wavered throughout my academic career, always somewhat lower or higher each day. Many people are there to lower your perception of your skills: some of your peers, adults, maybe a …show more content…
First of all, my perceptions of my greatest strengths display that reasoning and enthusiasm to learn are some of my greatest strengths, however, my mother reports that my greatest strengths which we did not share were English skills, kindness, politeness, and trustworthiness. Another question in which our opinions differed was that I was not in high school long enough to have a solid experience which to explain about, but on the other hand, my mother had a great experience in high school, enjoyed school overall, and had mostly wonderful teachers. Lastly, my worries for myself in this school year include falling behind in my advanced class, not obtaining perfect A’s throughout the year, or accidentally being late. However, my mother had absolutely no fears or worries for me this year in school, demonstrating that she has a great deal of faith in me. Between my perceptions of my skills and my mother’s perception of them, the fact that there are differences between our opinions has been validated with these pieces of
An analysis of Mycerinus and Kha-merer-nebty II and Augustus of Primaporta, reveals that there are many similarities, but also many differences between these two pieces of sculpture. These similarities and differences are found in the subject, style, and function of both works of art.
Some people think that if they could only change one aspect of their lives, it would be perfect. They do not realize that anything that is changed could come with unintended consequences. “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. Jacobs and “The Third Wish” by Joan Aiken both illustrate this theme. They demonstrate this by granting the main character three wishes, but with each wish that is granted, brings undesirable consequences. The main idea of this essay is to compare and contrast “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Third Wish.” Although the “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Third Wish” are both fantasies and have similar themes, they have different main characters, wishes, and resolutions.
The three essays, "Thank God For The Atom Bomb" by Paul Fussel, "Democracy" by Carl Becker, and "Chief Seattle: Letter to President Pierce, 1855" are three different rhetorical modes of writing that exposits theoretical, personal reasoning on the realities of certain controversial historical topics. The main focus of the essays are in proving a steadfast view of an ambiguous subject through sarcastic criticism of opposing ideas and by applying clever use of irony; the authors’ sentiments vary from imperialistic to anti-imperialistic, and from attesting to detesting a past event."Thank God For The Atom Bomb" is a straightforward imperialistic literature which analyzes cause and effect to justify the use of the Atomic bomb during World War 2. The author continuously criticizes the evil of the Japanese in an attempt to convince the reader why the "Japs" deserved what they got. He sites a Japanese pilot saying, "All Japanese must become soldiers and die for the Emperor" to prove his point that the general mentality of the enemy was just that –"implacable, treacherous, barbaric"(p460), and savage. He consistently acknowledges his up-close experience with the war to inform the reader that he has sufficient basis for his analysis. But to reinforce his authenticity that his view is not just possessed by himself, he borrows many statements and examples used by others who share his ideas.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
For this week’s assignment, I took a self-assessment in regards to who I am as a human being. I have taken many self-assessments throughout my life and assumed that this assessment would be similar to the assessments I have taken before. While some of the topics assessed today were similar or identical topics I have self-assessed previously, I had never taken a complete self-assessment until today.
Erik Erikson composed a theory of psychological development that was composed of eight stages. Erikson’s theory focuses on how personalities evolve throughout life as a result of the interaction between biologically based maturation and the demands of society. According to Erikson, “Each stage of human development presents its characteristic crises. Coping well with each crisis makes an individual better prepared to cope with the next.” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2013, p. 314) According to Erikson’s eight stages of development, I have only been through six of the eight stages.
As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
People’s self-esteem either high or low is shaped by their life experiences. I believe a person’s self-esteem begins to take shape at an early age, with their parents being a major influence. Kind, positive, knowledgeable and caring parents help children create a positive self-image. Parents who do not feel good about themselves or others, sometimes take it out on their childern by belittling them or discouraging them. This leads the child down a path of self-doubt and eventually given the right circumstances a lower self-esteem.
I ended up contacting 3 of my family members, and I told them to be brutality honest with me. I also told them whatever they said to me would not hurt my feelings. The four people I contacted where my brother, mom and dad. My dad said that my strengths where that I’m independent and I like to work on my own, that I was very determined to be successful, and that I am very driven to be the best at everything. She said my weaknesses where time management since I sometimes put off homework till last minute, that processes where hard for me to follow because I like to do things my way, he also said that I am very needy for approval after I have completed something. My mom said that I am a hard worker and feel the need to compete tasks fast, that I am a very loyal friend, and I am very determined to succeed in life. She said for my weaknesses that I can sometimes be selfish when it comes to work because I care about me succeeding more then others, she also said that me being a loyal friend is also a weakness because I care about them as much as I care about myself, and finally she said that I can sometimes get distracted easily. According to my brother my strengths are that I am very studious when it comes to school and work, also that I am very determined in life,
All parents only want what is best for their children. When presented with the decision to enroll children in public school or homeschool one must determine the best fit for them. Each schooling option has its positive and negative qualities. Crucial factors when determining which school environment is best include cost, travel, safety, and a student’s learning.
Entering my final year of high school, I faced many uncertainties and experienced many emotions as everything has quickly become a last. Like every year, fall semester has been my busiest with the combination of marching band, academics, clubs, and other extracurriculars. Throughout this semester, the self-reflections helped me open my eyes to who I am as a person and identify the challenges and obstacles I encounter as a student. Yes, I have my strengths but I also have my weaknesses, which can be burdening and impact the effort I put into school. Additionally, these reflections have provided an understanding as to what I might excel at in the future based on such strengths and weaknesses and the improvements I can make.
My decision to attend Lemoore Middle College High School served as the first step towards reaching the goals I have set for myself. This school provided the opportunity to participate in high school and college classes simultaneously. Beginning freshman year, I immediately took advantage of this amazing opportunity and began taking college courses, both online and in class. As expected for a high school freshman, the rigor of both college and charter high school course was much more than I could have anticipated. However, I successfully managed the situation by using the techniques taught in AVID. From freshman year to this very moment, I have participated in AVID. Through this course, I have gained and demonstrated a solid understanding of
The only way I became a better person is because I had to have someone push me down in order for me to rise back up. Throughout my life, I was constantly nagged on and pushed down by people because they did not believe I would have the ability to be successful and finish my education. My parents have always doubted my abilities to become academically successful, because of the way I act at home. Since grade school till this day, they have told me that I would not make it and I need to change, but I have proved them wrong, like when I finished Elementary, Middle, and High School. The times I had to prove to them, was in grade school when they got mad at me for getting an achievement award, then in middle school when they would constantly push me to do my homeland school work, and in high school when I did

Hi, my name is Rob Geis and I am currently in grade 12. I have been at County High School for a year now; I joined at the start of 11th grade, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The school is great, the people are fantastic and the atmosphere is one that makes you actually want to go to school. Before I joined ASB I was studying at the Singapore American School for two years and prior to that I was at the International School of Kuala Lumpur for two years. I was born and raised here in Bombay city and grew up here.
