Energetic. Classic. Alluring. Perpetual. Contemporary dance is a type of dance that allows dancers to express themselves through various dance genres with certain types of dance including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Many dancers who excel in contemporary dance aim to link their body and mind through fluid dance movements. Yana Abraimova created a contemporary dance to the song “Until We Go Down” by Ruelle and taught it at D Side Dance studio. In this paper I will be discussing how Abraimova’s choreography is very unique with versatile and fluid movement, while the dance has tons of Horton Moves as well which makes the instructors choreography more challenging. Her dance takes its course by focusing on tons of floor work, while …show more content…
It looks like she has been teaching contemporary dance for a long period of time. However, it also looks like she has been teaching contemporary dance for a while as well. I can definitely say contemporary dance is her favorite style of dance. Since she was so unique with her movement I can most certainly say she does not mind teaching dance period. I love that Abraimova teaches contemporary dance in her own style because it is rare that you find someone dancing this extreme while improvising at the same time. She has high expectations of her students because in the video I can tell as young as they are they are serious about learning and mastering Ambraimova’s choreography. It would be awesome for Ambraimova to come teach a contemporary dance class at a dance studio nearby in Chattanooga, Tennessee. So many dancers would be so excited to learn Ambraimova’s dance choreography because she teaches dance outside of the United States. Since dance originated from countries outside of the United States, the movements along with the dance technique are very strong and original. Ambraimova should continue her dance career by giving back to the youth and share her unique and talented choreography all over the world. She should travel to the United States Specifically, and introduce more dancers to strong, fierce, energetic, and dramatic dance movements all in one. This would be amazing to watch talented dancers master this amazing style of choreography. Ambraimova is very talented and ambitious and she should continue to challenge dancers to dance out of their comfort zone through contemporary dance by
...re of different dance cultures within the vocabulary of their scope, then the results would be so astounding as to give that dancer an unspoken quality distinguishing them from among their peers. Movement knowledge is cultural knowledge and remembering that each culture is beautiful and different in its own way can help create a dancer that will resonate with any audience member.

To begin with, Martha’s desperate effort was one of her strong strengths. When Martha began dance, many people murmured that Martha would fail because she was “quite a few years above the average age of all the other girls in the school” (28), “dumpy, [and] unprepossessing” (28). However, she astonished her dance teachers and others “with her determination to learn and her quick mastery of difficult exercises, gestures, and steps” (30). Martha usually spent her time on the studio alone all day and night, seeking for unique, exotic, and alluring movements of her own. Ted Shawn, Mar...
Throughout this analytical essay I will discuss, analyse and conclude the work of two contemporary modern dance pioneers, Alvin Ailey and Katherine Dunham. I will pay particular attention to the era 1935-1980 and focus on socio elements of this time period, using relevant literature to support my findings.
Since “dance in Canada has reflected the traditions of its immigrant cultures”, Anna Wyman with her Austrian dance roots has fit perfectly into the growing modern dance community when she immigrated to Canada in 1968 and soon settled in Vancouver (Wyman and Crabb). The mid- 1960’s was the a great time for Canadian modern dance according to The Canadian Encyclopedia when classical ballet and modern dance “contributed to a remarkable flowering of dance in Canada” (Wyman and Crabb). Wyman, with her strong roots in classical ballet and great interest in modern dance, began her dance troupe- Anna Wyman Dancers in 1971. In 1973, after ample performances at The Vancouver Art Gallery, the troupe was granted federal financial support which led Wyman to establish her dance company- Anna Wyman Dance Theatre (AWDT).

Even though people always tend to attribute “authentic” knowledge of a practice or product by tracing its culture, in the currently globalizing world where the cultures are overlapped and intertwine with one another, the criteria is ineffective due to the difficulty of ascribing the practice to a specific culture; hence, the notion of cultural authenticity is no longer legitimate. The cross-cultural origins and further developments of the Contemporary Ballet illustrate that to simply consider this dance form authentically American is inappropriate, whereby demonstrates the high degree of illegitimacy in the pursuit of cultural authenticity.
On September 2nd, I experienced one of the most enjoyable folk dances, known as contra dance, at the First Baptist Church. Due to my cultural and religious background, this experience was new to me and full of mystery. However, it led me to wonder how social music, especially contra dance, is powerful enough letting strangers dance and communicate with each other in a perfect harmony.
It is said that ancient times were simpler than the present day. Life was simply about surviving. But of course, change is inevitable. Humans constantly feel the need to expand grounds or to go where conditions are best suited for them. Eventually, a tribe or race would have met another on their own. But what was life like before the different tribes and races met? In present day research, it is seen that though there was no contact whatsoever, separated ancient tribes and/or races were deemed similar. Somehow, human minds branch off into different views of the same topic, depending on where the people are located. Take the Hawaiians and Middle Easterners for example, they remained on opposing sides of the world and yet they have similar forms of
In the heart of Miami, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) dance majors put on a performance called The Art of Dance. Under the direction of Michelle Grant- Murray, guest choreographers challenged the students of MDC. The students were also able to exhibit their own work, as this was also their student choreography showcase. The evening consisted of diverse styles such as – African, contemporary, and world dance; unfortunately, I cannot say the all of the pieces impressed me.

The topic I decided to choose to conduct my Capstone Research on is Copyright in Choreographic Works. Choreography is “Choreographers use dance performances to express ideas and stories. There are many types of dance, such as ballet, tango, modern dance, tap, and jazz (bls.gov). Choreography is also something that should be made from the heart, it’s not something that should be taken from someone else because at that point, it wouldn’t be considered your choreography and it wouldn’t be something you made from your own mind and creativity. Dancing is something you have a passion for and you show your emotions through your movements, so there shouldn’t be a need to copy. The problem now is, many choreographers are starting to steal choreography
I have always wondered about the history of Latin American dance. In this informational report, I am going to share with you the origins of the Latin American culture of dance.
Contemporary/modern is another type of dance similar to ballet but modern dance frees itself from the strict rules of ballet and focuses more on the dancer’s expression of inner feelings. Modern dance was created in the 1900’s as a rebellion against classical ballet. It emphasizes creativity in its choreography and performances.
