Gurinder Chada creates conflict of cultures in various different ways
in the film Bend It Like Beckham. Gurinder Chada uses techniques such
as accents in the voice, contrasts, stereotypes, sarcasm,

In the film Bend It Like Beckham a young female Indian footballer
hopes that one day she will be able to become a professional
footballer and play for her country. Her parents however have other
ideas. They believe that as a young female teenager who is growing up,
traditional household roles should be taught. Her mother does not
agree with her enthusiasm in playing football. Jasminder (a young
female Indian footballer) is expected as a woman to be married and
maternal. This brings up many issues where stereotyping and sarcasm is
used by characters to emphasize their opinions.
The director uses sarcasm as one of the many techniques to attract the
viewer’s attention in the film Bend It Like Beckham. Sarcasm is used
by many characters to express their views on other characters
opinions. We see this in the character Jules (Jasminder’s friend). Her
mother feels that as a teenager at her age she should not be out
kicking a ball on a pitch for pleasure but instead, searching for a
male companion. Jules is a tomboy and does not dress to impress, her
mother constantly persists that her daughter pay attention to her
appearance. Jules’ response to her mothers nagging is consistent
sarcasm and that...

Wit sheds light on the problems within the American healthcare system regarding patient care and making decisions based on the well being of the patient, and not focusing on the scientific developments that can be made by studying the effects of certain drugs and illnesses on patients - this is done through the interactions between Vivian and her two doctors: Dr. Kelekian and Dr. Jason Posner, as well as interactions between Vivian and her nurse, Susie.
In class, we watched a film called Ethnic Notions. In this film, it brought to light how devastating and powerful images can be. Due to exaggerated images and caricatures created pre-civil war era of black men and women, stereotypes were created and have negatively affected the black race in society. Caricatures, such as the Sambo, Zip Coon, Mammy, and Brute, have unfortunately been engrained in the minds of generations. So much so their stereotypes still persist today.
Chinatown is regarded by many as one of the best films ever created. In 2007, The American Film Institute named “Chinatown” as #21 on their list of 100 greatest films! Chinatown is a great film because it is able to show how far people are willing to go to obtain riches and how a detective is willing to go to great lengths to solve the mysteries in front of him. The movie has been talked about in abundance and has even been influenced by real life events from the water company in Los Angeles. It is closely related to corruption and the 1% which people still talk about till this day. In the movie “Chinatown” directed by Roman Polanski, a private detective hired to expose an adulterer finds that he is caught up in a web of deceit, corruption, and murder. Somewhat relating to this is the article “Of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1%” written by Joseph E. Stiglitz. In the article Stiglitz writes about how democracy in America is a mirage and that the rich
The short film '' Donkey '' is written by the author Keir Burrows. In my analysis, I will tell about the theme and the characters of the film, and in the end, I will make a conclusion about what I have read. In the short film, David is talking about his upbringing, where he was a kid, a teenager and an adult.
American Football, in my opinion, represents the mass majority of our society. Though I am not a fan of the game, it is exciting to watch Super bowl Sunday. Because of my background, I was more accustomed to Soccer which is consider a version of Football. I would agree that American Football is a metaphor of the US. For example, begin a conversation in the grocery store and merely states what you think about that game last night? This would strike an immediate conversation until you out the door. Before you realize, you may get an invite to a tailgate party or game night that’s if you are on the same team. Though football plays a major role in business and many other social aspects. It represents the strength of this country, as well unifying
In accordance with Henry Jenkins argument in “Get a Life!”: Fans, Poachers, Nomads, Jenkins argues that there is another angle to which media fans can be viewed and attempt to be understood with regards to a culture that is not considered widely and often portrayed within negative terms. Jenkins reading emphasises to the readers that fans of media texts are being depicted as a culture which possesses negative characteristics, that which could be considered as taboo as well as another side to fan culture that’s does not receive as much recognition. In modern times, racism seems to be found in all walks of life, it can be seen in the work place, schools, on the street, etc. It is also in clear evidence in sport, something that people should be able to participate in for enjoyment and friendship, not abuse.
While this film may seem out of the ordinary, it is becoming more relatable as new creations are made. Looking back at this film in 2000 after it was released, this idea of bring back dinosaurs seemed outrageous. The film as several scenes that seem very unrealistic today, but when we consider the future, these ideas may not be as outrageous as we thought. According to the Washington Post, “Our hero Owen (played by Chris Pratt) spends the first half of the movie serving up foreshadowing on a platter. To me, football is by far the best sport in America and ever. Some people might argue about that but I don’t care it’s my opinion. I love the competitiveness of the game. Once you start playing it you wouldn’t want to stop. I’ve played since I was 4 years old for Juniata. I’ve played for 13 years which is a long time playing football. Football is very fun to me and I enjoy it a lot. Once you put them pads on you feel unstoppable, like nothing can get in your way no matter what. My family is a football family which means they all like football and even played it so I basically was born to play. It can be challenging though once you get in high school and college. You got to work hard on and off the field, have to workout a lot to stay in shape
