The three conflicts in the book, “In The Penalty Box” by Lynn Rush, are person vs person, person vs self, and person vs person. To begin, the first conflict in the book is person vs. person when Pax disagrees with Willow joining the hockey team. Willow is the first ever girl to join the Woodhaven hockey team. For example, Pax is furious at the fact Willow made the team: “‘We got chicks on our team now?’ Pax slammed his locker shut. ‘We are a freaking joke’. We'll be the laughingstock of the league.’” (pg.112) Pax admits that he is ashamed and embarrassed to have a girl on the team. Pax is worried how the other teams will view Woodhaven now that there is a girl on the team. He doesn't think that Willow earned her spot on the team and this is displayed later when the roster is finalized and Pax tells Willow she is only on the team because Josiah was injured. …show more content…
Throughout the book, Willow demonstrated perseverance by joining the hockey team to get stronger, practicing figure skating everyday, and applying to other skating teams: “‘Will you video me?’. ‘I thought you sent out videos already?’ ‘Oh, I did.’ She slouched slightly. ‘I got two rejections but there are a few out still’” (pg.239) This quote is evidence that Willow isn't scared of rejection and is eager to catch her dream of becoming an Olympic figure skater. Every day she works hard. She plays on the men's hockey team, she works out, and yet still finds time to practice figure skating. She is dedicated to recovering and getting back on track to becoming an Olympic skater and won't let anything stop

...n v. self, and man vs. God are all types of conflicts that appear in the short story Parker’s Back. Conflict is a major factor in the plot and structure of Parker’s Back.
The main category of conflict is character vs self. This is when a character has an internal problem. They fight throughout the story to overcome that problem. The first example of character vs self is Elie. Throughout the story Elie is fighting himself to keep himself going. This is because of all the things happening around him. It drove him to the point where he almost gave up because his legs were
Another internal conflict is how Lilly feels responsible for her mother?s death. When she was four, she accidentally shot her mom, and wasn?t able to forgive herself. The reason she runs away in the first place is because her dad tells her that her mom left her, which is both an internal, and man versus man conflict. She?s mad at her dad for saying it, but can?t fully convince herself that it isn?t true. There?s a man versus society conflict when men beat up Rossaleen because of her color, and another internal conflict when May is so overcome with grief that she cant stop crying.
Firstly let us consider conflict. In each act of the play, we see the overpowering desire to belong leading to a climax of conflict amongst the characters, which has the consequence of exclusion. Conflict is a successful literary technique, as it engages the audience and focuses our attention on the issue of conflict and exclusion, brought about by the characters’ desires to be accepted by their community.
Conduct Unbecoming revolves around two important yet very different characters; Drake and Millington. They are both new to the army but have very different views of the regiment. When they first enter ‘the mess’ Drake looks about ‘as a man finally at peace’ Whereas Millington looks with gloom. Drake starts ‘Exactly as I imagined it would be’ whereas Millington launches straight into sarcasm with ‘how very uplifting for you.’ He makes a point that the place ‘haunted his childhood’, showing us that not only does he hate it but he has also been there before. We now know that he already has some connection with the regiment. When Drake says ‘it is like…coming home’ Millington replies with ‘isn’t it, though?’ We then find out that Millington’s father was in fact the colonel of the regiment until 1881. Drake obviously is in awe of the regiment and couldn’t be happier that he’s there. He tells Millington ‘You will find only military honours here. These are past colonels and holders of the Victoria Cross. That is the regimental tradition.’ This shows how dedicated he is (that he’s learnt all this.) He then comments in a rather snobby way ‘I think I should warn you Millington, that while I might, through force of circumstance, tolerate your imbecilities throughout our voyage together, you will find that they are not appreciated here’. Millington then tells Drake “I have no intention whatever of surviving my probationary period. There is a ship, the Doric castle, which sails for England in almost exactly three months to the day from now.

Conflict first arises when Blanche arrives at the Kowalski household and Stanley's authority over his home is questioned. Stanley has always had authority and control of his home and also his wife Stella. When Blanche arrives he feels that he is being invaded and doesn't agree with it. His "rat race" style of life doesn't match with Blanches but has somehow converted Stella. One of the main themes about conflict is that Stanley and Blanche are in a battle to win Stella and neither of them will give her up.

The first conflict is shown through the description of Mr. Wright by Mrs. Hale like he was not a very simple man. On the other hand, Minnie, his wife, was a lively and cheerful person before marriage. She is fed up with the domination Mr. Wright enforces on her and tries to save her rights. As a result, her husband tries to kill her soul and that marks in an internal fight between them. Another conflict is that Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter must choose between the law or to stay loyal to their fellow woman.
Internal conflict is the struggle within a character between opposing feelings, beliefs, or needs. Success or failure can be the results of internal conflict, depending on the amount of thought and action put into the character’s conflict. The short story “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing clearly portrays the literary concept of internal conflict through the experiences of Jerry and his mother. The luxurious beach getaway is tampered with great amounts of internal conflict as they battle within themselves in order for Jerry to spend over two minutes underwater in the tunnel and for his mother to create a good distance with her son. Through the thoughts of Jerry’s widowed mother in “Through the Tunnel” the struggles of internal conflict
