What are the best types of conflicts? Night by Elie Wiesel contains a lot of uses of conflict. This is a story told from the viewpoint of Elie. In the story he talks about his experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust. If not already obvious this is a true story. The conflict of character vs self develops throughout the story and effects Elie. The main category of conflict is character vs self. This is when a character has an internal problem. They fight throughout the story to overcome that problem. The first example of character vs self is Elie. Throughout the story Elie is fighting himself to keep himself going. He was getting beat throughout the story. Eventually he got to a point where he gave up(105). This caused him to become a burden to his son. He lost his strength every day until he eventually died. Almost every Jew had a conflict with themselves. As a hole they had to fight to keep going. Thats because most of them were starving and lost their families. Most jews turned against each other to survive. They even went as far as to kill each other to get food to survive(101 ). This effected Elie because he had to see his own people turn against each other. A minor but important self conflict was with the dentist. He had an advantage over the other jews. This was because he could take their gold teeth,and exchange it for more food(52). The dentist could do this on a day to day basis without him feeling bad. That was until he was thrown in prison, and scheduled to be hanged. If it wasn't for that Elie would have lost his gold teeth. The final example of self conflict is displayed by Ms.Sachter. She was going insane during the ride,because she was separated from her family(24). During the whole ride she was crying, and hallucinating. To the point where she said everything would be in flames.
