Multiculturalism and participating in community service has been a meaningful aspect of my life and thousands of United States citizens across the country. I am a young, Rwandan, woman and am in love with my heritage and helping others embrace their own. Maintaining our cultures and learning about others help every generation to become more open minded about the world around us. Community service helps to positively transform the lives of ourselves and those around us in little ways that will ultimately make a significant impact in our local, national, and global communities. I would like the opportunity to benefit those in my next season of life (attending university) because school organizations and other community service programs are one of the several reasons why I am who I am today. …show more content…
Through NJHS and NHS, I have accumulated nearly 170 hours of community service. While working about every other weekend with my peers, I have learned how to be part of a successful team plus how to exercise patience and how deeply community service touches the hearts of those in our neighborhoods. Throughout the summers, I worked for over 180 hours as a volunteer IT assistant and gardener for various churches. During my time in a 15 person team while being the youngest and only female of the group, I regularly interacted with co-workers of different backgrounds and ages, learning to succinctly communicate with the world around us and how to embrace cultures aside from my own. Through the various clubs at Centennial, I have been able to encourage my fellow peers to honor those around us by using our abilities in music, writing, and language arts. I am passionate about using our talents to benefit others and am looking forward to spreading my mentality in
Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. Whether it be participation in a well-attended project or persistent contribution to a helpful organization, those aforementioned individuals were formative in guiding me towards a path filled with opportunities for having an impact on my community.
Being in a school that brought students from various counties and cities with different backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives, opened my eyes to seeing just how diverse humanity is. In a time when everyone is struggling with personal problems, I know how monumental a simple volunteer act can be. One of my favorite acts of service is tutoring. I tutored an elementary-aged girl for two years in Fort Lee and I will always remember those two years as the most fulfilling. Education is so precious, and children are the most open to it. Not only was I able to teach her math and reading comprehension skills, but how to carry herself as a smart and extraordinarily capable young lady. In return, she taught me patience and how sometimes you just need to approach a problem differently to see the
People become involved in community service for different reasons and it is up to the individual to realize if it is worthwhile and why they are helping others. Community service brings a nation together. Every country wants its community to be disciplined and work for change. Community service is the best way to inculcate responsibility into individuals. This is where I come in, as a volunteer, as an activist for a change and assistance. I have been inducted and a member of three unique clubs with a core purpose of community service and assistance to others. I have been apart of CSF, California Scholarship Federation, for three years and counting. Each system it is required for obtain fifteen hours of community service, whether be with an organization or school based activity. California Scholarship Federation is an exclusive community of college bound scholars who share resources, provide peer tutoring, and pursue success through community service and academic achievement. I became inducted into NHS, National Honor Society, my sophomore year. Since then I have been an active member participating in every community service opportunity our club participates in. In addition to the club's community service, we as members are required to obtain a certain amount of community service outside the club in order for our membership to not be revoked. NHS
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
The world has many issues. As a Social Worker my goal is to help alleviate some of those issues. But with as many issues as there are I do not have the skill set or time to combat all the issues that I see. Because of this I need to choose an area to focus on and put my effort into that so that my education and training is put to good use. To choose an issue that is most concerning to me I have to look at my community to see where there is a need. When I look at my community I see many people living in poverty. The good thing about my community is that there are many services for those in need. There are several food banks and many other agencies such as No to Abuse, NyE Communities Coalition, and various counseling agencies that provide needed
Throughout my years attending Woodside, I joined the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). Being involved with these two clubs so far has provided me with the astonishing lessons that I will need in life to have a successful future for myself. Also, I am planning to go very far in life after high school due to these two important clubs because of the many ways they have helped me as an individual. Not only did I participate in clubs but I have also volunteered at Greenwood Elementary School. Being a volunteer at this school involved me working with kindergarteners and 1st graders. My duties included reading to the children, helping with any assigned classwork or homework, making sure they are safe, and assisting the teachers with anything they needed help with. I have always had a passion of helping others and volunteering at Greenwood was a very enjoyable experience for
While I have taken part in several service projects in the past, the chance to expand my interests in helping the community is quite appealing. Performing community service is something that I enjoy, as it allows me to discover new interests while helping someone in need. The opportunity to perform community service, surrounded by fellow Academic Magnet students who support my enthusiasm for helping others, is a key aspect of why I want to be a part of this
As a person, I am fueled by compassion and I would like to help others in my college years be so as well. My nature to help those around me has led me to participate in community service projects like putting together thanksgiving food baskets for families and purchasing
What I once thought was an impossible job, organizing so many books, people helped me understand the work process which made me gain self-confidence that I was able to produce in my work. Part of that confidence was also a sense of pride because I was responsible for placing books onto the shelves that many people come to read. Now that I have done my volunteer work, when I apply for scholarships and colleges, I can mention my volunteer experience and the hours I did. Although many students would rather spend four hours of their lives doing something else, those who do community service work will learn to use important characteristics such as, confidence, sense of responsibility, and scholarships, that will help them be successful not only in school, but also in future careers and
Life struggles and injustices in my community have shaped me into a passionate, determine, and empathetic community leader. My aspiration in building stronger and safer communities derived from the obstacles I experienced as a first generation Chicana, growing up in a low income community. I was born and raised in East Los Angeles where at age 11, I witnessed how education inequity played a critical role in the life opportunity and academic success of the youth in my community. During my first two years in Stevenson Middle School, I began losing friends and classmates due to drugs and alcohol, gang violence, and delinquency. Throughout those two years, I lived with fear and anxiety not knowing whether tomorrow I would be alive. I had no mentors

Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
