The Helping Hand Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters. From family dogs to strays, you never know what dogs will turn up in shelters. Going into a shelter to volunteer you have to be fast acting, strong and firm. Walking dogs who have never been on a leash can be hazardous when walking them by dog aggressive dogs. Dog fights through cages can be dangerous to both dogs. Do not let that scare you away, the rewards of knowing you are helping that animal pay off in the end. New dogs constantly come into the shelters as others get adopted. Every time you volunteer, whether it is everyday or on the weekends, you will see new faces of people who have the same passion for animals. You make friends along the way four legged or two they still are happy to see your face …show more content…
“You 'll make the jobs of everyone working for animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership and animal protection” (Top Reasons to Volunteer). Most of the time the new volunteers do not have the experience that the older volunteers have. If there is something that needs to be done and one of the volunteers do not know what to do next suggest to them that a certain chore needs taken care of. Also, if you see a dog got out or is being aggresive go and get the staff to help and ask for guidance. The animal and your safety is the most important
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
President John Adams once said, "There are two kinds of education. One teaches you how to earn a living. The other teaches you how to live” (Adams). I agree with Mr. Adams and I think colleges should provide both types of education. Calling for students to complete community service hours will build the grounds on which they build the rest of their lives. However, many people don’t even give community service a chance. They say they’re too busy, it’s not for them, or simply choose not to do it. At my high school, we were required to complete thirty two hours of community service for graduation; many students came to love it.
Animal shelters need people that are great with pets or people that just like working for animals on their free time. Help and volunteer at a animal shelter it can make a pet feel good and you are also helping the community- ("Ten Ways to Help"). In today’s society people need to get active and work with something. It doesn’t have to be an animal shelter but as long as you are helping the community out one way or another. If you adopt a pet form a local animal shelter go back and say thank you and show pics of your pet and tell how they are doing and let them know they you are real supportive at what they do for their
Helping is a social behavior that is important in maintaining a civil society. There are many variables related to why some people help while others do not. Gender is one of them that have been previously examined. Helping someone is providing your best strength in accomplishing a task that can be beneficial to the person. When requesting help from someone most of the time we take the gender into consideration. Based on research by Eagle and Crowley (1986), men are generally more likely to be helpful than women. In an emergency situation where someone preferably a women has a flat tire, a man is most likely to pull over to the side of the road and help (Eagle & Crowley, 1986). Women are most likely to help family and friends then they are to help a stranger (Eagle & Crowley). When a woman needs help with an emotional situation she is more likely to be
I have volunteered at Petsmart to help give many different puppies homes. I have volunteered more than one time. I did this August 1st, 2016 for about 6 hours, September 10th 2016 for about 4 hours, September 24th 2016 for about 6 hours , March 12th, 2017 for about 5 hours, and April 9th, 2017 for about 4 hours. I learned that volunteering makes me feel amazing, helping puppies or anyone makes me feel like I have made a difference.
If you had the opportunity to change the world and your life, would you? I have many experiences with volunteering and each time it has left an impressionable effect on me and benefitted the world because of it. Volunteerism gives a person the opportunity to change people’s lives, including your own. Volunteering is crucial to a functioning society and can better the world one person at a time. Volunteerism is essential to creating a functioning society, personal well being, and advancing careers.
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
Volunteering at a local Emergency Department was the first long-term exposure that I had in a clinical setting, prior to that I had only a couple of weeks’ worth of clinical exposure. I wanted to know more about the ways which a hospital worked and to gain a hands-on approach in learning medicine that could not be taught in a book. I worked alongside doctors, nurses, and other volunteers and medical professionals. Proper communication between everyone was very important to ensure that tasks were completed properly and in a timely manner. I received training from a lead volunteer and the volunteer that trained me demonstrated the proper ways to clean rooms and restock patient rooms in the manner which he believed was correct. Unfortunately, some nurses preferred different ways for
The opportunity to volunteer at Roseville for “Recycled Pets Norcal” pet rescue allowed me to gain more knowledge about dogs and experience the work when handling homeless pets. The pet rescue mostly consists of dogs and some cats and I realized that volunteering our time to these precious dogs help sustain our personality to become more caring and responsible people. The volunteers range from elementary school kids to mature adults and this enabled me to work with people I didn’t know and helped expand on my communication skills. There was this time when my partner and I met up at Pet Food Express to help out for an adoption event and I noticed that our volunteer advisor, Mrs. Hendon, brought in new and different
Instead of learning about volunteering from an indoor setting, I was able to first-hand experience volunteerism. I truly enjoyed being able to help my community while also earning credits by doing so. It was a win-win! If I had the opportunity, I would definitely take a class similar to this one. I will be transferring to the University of Kentucky and I am hoping that they will have some clubs/organizations that specialize in volunteering so that I can continue to help with the community. You will encounter some rough patches while volunteering, but that should never discourage you from continuing on. I know that at first while volunteering at MCHS, it was pretty strenuous. I hadn’t worked with any other animals other than my own and I had never volunteered at an animal shelter before, but everything ended up working out. I learned so much more about working with animals, gained people skills while working with other volunteers/adopters, and became more aware of my community’s needs. I will continue to volunteer and encourage others to do the
Training is not just for aggressive animals, it is also for potty training animals, and obedience training. The main training that will be preformed is for aggressiveness. Dogs are put down the most for being aggressive towards someone or people are not adopting them so they are being put down because the shelter is running out of room. A dog has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off at the shelter “Letter from a Shelter Manager.”. The main goal of this shelter is to not have to put down any animal unless it is severely sick and it is not treatable. Connections are also on the same level as training. Connections to animal hospitals or clinics is very important. If something goes wrong and the animal needs to be taken to an animal hospital, then having a connection with one will make it a lot easier. If an animal has a cold, needs shots, or something less than a clinic will be helpful, but having a connection with a hospital will be more
Booker T. Washington once said, “ If you want to lift yourself up, lift someone else up”. This quote is meant to stress the importance of volunteering and how it not only benefits the people in need but also the volunteers. Volunteering is an essential aspect of society because it teaches responsibility, humbleness , and helps save money. A wide range of people use volunteer services including senior citizens and disabled veterans. The Salvation Army is the world’s second largest nonprofit organization. The Salvation Army gets the majority of its funds by donations and from stores that are maintained by volunteers and the people that they assist. The stores use donated goods as their merchandise. Every cent that is made by the Salvation Army
I love animals – especially dogs. And since I have never been able to have one, I volunteer at the Dubai Kennels and Cattery whenever I can. It gives me immense
The carers alone cannot give as much attention to the dogs as they need since there are too many of them. This made me learn that the general public can make a huge difference simply by paying a visit every once in a while to spend time with these dogs who are so deprived from attention.
The ASPCA offers several different types of programs. Animal Health Services Group, ASPCA Animal Hospital, ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, and The Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinics to name a few. In other words, the ASPCA is doing a lot to help out animals. In order to participate or volunteer in one of these programs, you must meet these two requirements. Be at least 16 years of age, and you must be able to devote to a minimum of eight hours of service per month at a minimum of 6 months. These people are obviously animals lovers and would like to take care of animals at the
