Community Health was taught in 5 year period in different modules. The course was divided into 8 components with a total of 14 credits These modules include; Biostatistics and Demography, Environmental Sanitation, Epidemiology, Control of Communicable Diseases, Maternal and Child Health, Research Methods, Occupational Health, and Health Services Management. Under Research Methods, students were introduced to Qualitative and Quantitative research. Also, some Modules were delivered in tutorials lead by students under the supervision of a tutor. The course led into a leadership and community Placement programme that culminated into a capstone project. The students were required to spend six months in the community addressing a health problem. …show more content…
The modules covered include; Gross Human Anatomy, Histology and Cytology, Human Embryology and Teratology, and Neuroanatomy. The module approached anatomy in sections of the body such that students would make comparison across three modules.
Physiology was s part of the basic health sciences taught during the pre-clinical years, the course had a total of 12 credits and was taught in 3 modules over three semesters. The modules were a continuation of each other and include Physiology I, Physiology II, and Physiology III, This coursed the basic fundamental concept of human physiology in systems and was the foundation the Pathology course.
Pharmacology the course started after the basic sciences like Biochemistry and Physiology were completed and was in three module that carried 10 credits. These modules include; Systemic Pharmacology, Chemotherapy cytotoxic agents and Immune Pharmacology, and CNS pharmacology. This course also feeds into the clinical discipline of medicine has they were taught partly during the clinical rotation

This course was the Core of the clinical medicine. Medical specialities were taught in different modules during the 4th year of study. These specialities included; Psychiatry I, Psychiatry II, Rehabilitation Medicine, TB and Leprosy, Dermatology, Palliative Care, and Medical Ethics. These specialities were taught in 2 semesters and carried 15 credits. These medical special aimed at making students appreciate the discipline of medicine in great details. For instance, the TB and Leprosy Module made a student appreciate the global burden of TB and challenges of TB
Ellen goodman really explains the college course Chem 20 that all pre-med students have to take, she describes Chem 20 by “a psychological laboratory of pre-med anxiety…...Every class was a combat mission.” This quote explains that the class was very punishing and grueling to be
I came into this course with a lot of questions in regards to pathology, as well as patient care and how medical practitioners are affected emotionally by it. It was difficult hearing how patients are being diagnosed with cancer and even worse when they are told that they have a short time to live. I once heard in a hospital meeting, that an oncologist sees death every day and that nullifies the pain of losing a patient. I learned that this isn’t true. It is the emotional bond with a patient that helps medical practitioner value life and provide the best quality of life they
Mr. Eric Davis gained his interest for anatomy from a young age. His father was a college professor and his sister became a doctor. Growing up he was constantly surrounded by medical personnel, but he never made a solid decision that he wanted to follow these careers until his sophomore year
Some hazardous substances as well as materials that could be found in a social care organisation may include any cleaning materials, e.g. disinfectant that can easily cause burns or poisoning, clinical and bodily waste, medicines or drugs. injury to the skin as most useful disinfectant is an irritant, all found in the COSHH cupboard for use of the cleaners. The clinical e.g. used injections and bodily waste e.g. period pads must be in the clinical waste bins. It’s also important that the clinical waste bins are cleaned twice a day. All the medicines can be found locked in the medication cupboard, The key must be kept safe and locked away l in a different room
The time log (see attached) contains documentation of the field experience for this community health project.
For example, Anatomy and physiology 1 and 2, Microbiology, Pathophysiology, chemistry, even organic chemistry, were the courses completed in school. In return, a Bachelor in Liberal Arts was awarded to me. After my degree, I needed a job, so Home Health Aide was my next option and then I become a Certified Nurse Assistant. Random people suggested nursing to me and it was considered. License Practical Nursing (LPN) was the first step, so I pass the entrance exam and was accepted into the nursing program.
Your body has about 10 systems that work together to complete a human being. This is studied by a branch of biology called anatomy. Anatomy is the study of body structures of humans, animals, and other living organisms. There are different types of anatomy like human anatomy, zootomy anatomy (animal), and phytotomy anatomy (plant) (Nordqvist, Christian, “What Is Anatomy?”). Students who plan to become part of the medical field are required to take anatomy along with biochemistry. Biochemistry is the study of chemical reactions inside the body. Doctors, pharmacists, and physicians are required to take many other biology and chemistry classes, but anatomy and biochemistry are the two major subjects studied to join the medical field. Without these courses a doctor, a pharmacist, or a physician would not know the basics of a human structure, the reactions and acids inside a human’s body. To become part of the medical field it is mandatory to study anatomy and have knowledge of each of the systems along with biochemistry.
Furthermore, during my time at University, I noticed that Biology especially Human Anatomy and Physiology grabbed my attention and indeed a preparation for my new course in Radiography. Also, this part of the degree course has contributed a major strength on the entry requirements. In this gap year, I sat for IELTS exams and I passed all modules. In the meantime, I am having Maths tuition from the ICS Learn to prepare for Edexel Maths exams on May, 2017 at Basil Paterson Tutorial College in
While in high school take classes such as biology Chemistry, physics, health, & math. AP classes if available at your high school to become familiar with the subjects and be prepared for it at a college level
Public Health Nursing (PHN) aims to improve the wellbeing of the population by promoting health and preventing disease among all people in the communities (Public Health Nursing, 2013). The PHN utilizes the primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention to help improve the health of the communities. The PHN process is applied to all levels of practice. Interventions are “actions take on behalf of individuals, families, systems, and communities to improve or protect health status” (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2012, p. 191). This paper will identify PHN interventions such as screening, outreach, and referral and follow-up, health teaching, and counseling that was identified in the PHN in the 21st Century project that this author completed as part of the PHN experience. This paper will also identify if the interventions were at the community, system or individual/family level.
The purpose of this community profile is to discuss a particular health improvement issue within a chosen community. A community can be defined using many different terms. You can belong to a community through religious beliefs. Through shared experiences or interests. You can belong to a political community where all involved share the same political interests. A community can also be defined as ‘a family’ a small village where many have lived most of their lives who share the same desire to belong to that community.
There are four types of chemistry courses nurses typically go through. These include: general chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry and pharmacology. General chemistry is the basics. In this subject you will learn about the elements and compounds on the periodic table. Many courses cover chemical equations, states of matter, and elements that make up the world. Biochemistry is a mixture of of biology and chemistry. This branch of chemistry studies the many activities that happen in the body of a
The undergraduate degree that I am going to go for is Biomedical Engineering so that I have a well-paying job as a backup if I fail to get into medical school. For this class you have to take your basic science and math courses, as well as your basics that you must take for any degree such as English Composition 1 and 2. These can be very tedious, but they must be taken. Once you get into your junior and senior years of your undergraduate degree, you start to get into your higher level classes like calculus, chemistry, and physics. After I receive my undergraduate diploma, I will apply to medical school. Assuming I get in, medical school is four more years of school. It will take me eight years to get started as a
Community medicine is medicine’s branch concerned with the total health of the individual within the community, and with the application of comprehensive care to the prevention and treatment of illness in the entire community. I had a very early introduction to the concept of community and preventive medicine when I was reading about the history of ancient Egyptian at the middle school. I can recall that they utilized various documented preventive measures included prayers and various kinds of magic; they also partially recognized the significance of the balanced diet: carbohydrates from cereals, vitamins from fruit and vegetables, and proteins mostly from fish.
I have learned a lot about my health and wellness thorough out this semester it is truly amazing. The impact these seven different dimensions have on our health they are, physical, intellectual, psychological, spiritual, social, environmental, and occupational all play a role in our health. All in so many different ways working together to make a brighter and happier healthier us. These seven dimensions make up whom we are and how we live our life is all based upon how we balance these dimensions.
