A hallmark of Chancellor’s Scholars is intellectual curiosity. Please describe how you have demonstrated intellectual curiosity in the past and how you expect to manifest that intellectual curiosity as a student at the University of Pittsburgh. (250 words) The activity in which I was best able to explore my intellectual curiosity was my summer research internships. Prior to my junior year, I devoted my summer as an intern at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland. The main facet of the internship was a research project that focused on developing an in silico approach for finding inhibitors for cancer cell lines and comparing my results with those of current approaches. The development process required me to execute data mining. After …show more content…
These additions were desperately needed for summer programs for kids who needed a place to sit down to carry out their activities. I submitted several designs and modified my plans to accommodate the library’s desires. I worked with the University of Illinois Extension Services and Ball Horticultural Company to educate myself about plants/bulbs, type of soil to use, and what would work best specifically for the library site. I managed the installation of the project, communicated my timeline with the Director, found funding for the project, and coordinated a team of volunteers to complete the installation. When my project was complete, I could not be more proud of the enormous task I was able to carry out and I was glad to give back to the library that had given so much to me as a kid. At UPITT, I know I will be able to continue my involvement with community service through collaboration with the Student Civic Engagement Council and UPITT community partners such as the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. After graduation, I plan to continue into the field of medicine where I am hopeful that I can help improve the lives of many

Anatole France once stated, “To accomplish great things, you must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” I believe that my life of nursing and will research start in Baltimore, Maryland at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. I believe a whole new world will be open to me because I decided to live the life of bettering the lives of others. Similarly, to my mentor Zwade Marshall, I want to do so much for my community by using the greatest tools, which are education and medicine. I know that a graduate degree and research is not the last step. Then again I know that the University of Maryland is the greatest place to start.
One day I hope to become a Nurse Practitioner giving compassionate and adequate care to those individuals who are less fortunate and are in need of care. My life experiences, educational background, and determination will drive me through what's to come as I prepare myself to gain my BSN and become a Nurse. It is with great pleasure and excitement that I am applying for admission to Colorado Christian University. I never thought after having a family that I would be attending college. When I am gone I will look back happily at the legacy I have left for my family as well as the persons I will

My goal since my toddler years has been to be a hero. Today, I cannot envision myself doing anything else. My long-term goal since the beginning of high school has been to contribute to the biomedical sciences, whether it is as a researcher, a surgeon, or a clinical physician. I aspire to make change, even the smallest improvement in anyone’s life.
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
As I thought of this article, many of the issues I have faced as a single Hmong woman in her mid-twenties came to mind. Should I discuss the functional reasons why marriage is so important in the Hmong culture, especially for women? Or do I talk about the lack of eligible, older Hmong men? Better yet, should I complain about the attempts by my relatives to find me a good husband as if it were an unfortunate circumstance that I was single instead of a conscious choice? Thinking it over, though, I decided that all those questions boiled down to one fundamental truth – the Hmong community is still trying to learn how to treat the increasing number of Hmong women who, like me, are making the choice to stay single in their mid-twenties.
Many people may be struggling with reality in the world, which has set boundaries, but then there are the people that use imagination, which lets them think and do anything they want. Sometimes people go in and out of reality, but most believe reality is the only thing and you have to live in it or else you are crazy. I think of it in a different way that being creative is the best way to have happiness in your life, which will lead you to greatness and your deepest passions. Even I have gone in out of reality, but I have noticed that my greatest moments have been from my imagination.
Determination is a quality that makes a person continue to try, to do, or to achieve something that is difficult. It is a person’s overall drive to never give up and continue striving towards a desired goal. If I was asked to describe myself in one word, I would choose determined. Throughout my life I have had many experiences where my determination has helped me fight through tough times. By having this quality it has helped me to win a girls bowling IHSA state title, be an all-state athlete, and also continue my goals for my education. Determination is important to me because I need it to achieve my goals and reach my highest potential. Determination starts with the decision to go for the goal and to make the commitment to attain the goal. Determination is also the continuous driving force to overcome the obstacles on the way to the destination. It focuses the mind on the end result. It strengthens the will to carry on, to arrive at the destination.
The bored and brilliant challenge has daily challenges that lessen the use of a cell phone, and allow ourselves to be bored. According to wnyc.org boredom is benifical to humans. I started as an absolute beginner and when I learned more about the job I started thoroughly enjoying it. The work was aimed at identifying threats and assessing the damage they were likely to cause, tagging and eliminating them. To execute my job responsibilities well, I started learning fundamentals of Linux. Within a week, I developed a strong grasp on the basic commands that could be used on the terminal. I started using another Linux distribution, Kali Linux. Thus, I learned a lot about cyber security and ethical hacking. Deeply intrigued with these fields, I undertook in-depth research on them. The internship was useful to learn how real
My internship experience this semester was interesting. I interned at ESH/MESH with Bridgeway. My Supervisor was Emilie Banz. I didn’t do much but I did learn a lot from this experience. I met a lot of great people and watch PsyR in action. I met a couple of individuals who were really cool. My experience this semester has prepared me for the next.
Everybody; old and young have active an imagination, but we all express it differently than others. For me I express my imagination with my artwork. For example; when I was younger I watched a lot of cartoons just like any other kid. My favorite cartoon at the time was He-Man. I loved the show so much that I frequently dreamt and imagined of being strong like him, but I knew it could not be possible so instead of dreaming, I drew up an entire comic book of myself being a super strong super hero just like He-Man all thanks to my vivid imagination and artistic ability. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has done something similar.
