What I Want from College: Partying, Girls, Partying... I'm attending Stockton for a few reasons but I'm ultimately going to college for my future. I want to be successful and rich so I can have all the good things in life. I figure since my rock star career went south, I'll have to hit the books. I'm here at Stockton to attain a degree in business and learn the things I need to become a strong businessman. I enjoy business and want to continue with it for my career. I'd love to be the CEO of some huge corporation some day. I also want the full college experience partying, girls, partying... College gives me something to keep me going. Without it I feel like my job at the car wash is taking me nowhere. I want to be able to have a family without financial stress and worries. I used to think I was going to be a professional basketball player but I'm to short so that didn't really work out the way I planned it. Then I thought I'd be a professional golfer be I'm bored of the sport so I don't want to play anymore. So finally I decided I'd have to study my way out of a middle class family. I began my college education at a school out in Idaho that I didn't want to be at in the first place. My parents thought that it would be good for me because it was a church school and it would keep me out of trouble. Well I thought differently. I didn't want to be at that school from the beginning, but finally I gave in and agreed to go. I think the only reason I agreed to go was out of respect for my parents and because a friend from home was going to room with me. So I guess originally I was going to college for my parents and my friends. Those are the wrong reasons to be going across country to a school. I didn't want to be going that far in the first place. Our trip took a total of four days on the road. I believe that was the best part. When I got to school I was miserable. I had absolutely no interest in meeting people or having a good time I just wanted to go home and be out of that foreign environment. I t seemed like the worst month of my life. It's obvious to see that I didn't make it through that first semester out at Ricks college. It was so bad for me that I had enough and withdrew from school. When I got home, needless to say, my parents were quite upset with me. What I was most worried about was raising the money to pay for tuition myself. That was the rule if I didn't go to a church school I had to pay my own tuition. So I got a job immediately when I got home so I could get the money together in time. It wasn't easy but I'm here attending Stockton. I can say I've worked hard to get here and I don't plan on wasting it. It's going to be easy for me to work hard in school because I'm the one who's paying for it. I'm always doing something now whether it be school or work or going out, because it can't be all work with no play now can it. Besides, I like to go out as much as possible. When I get older I want to have a family without the stress of financial barricades. My entire life my parents have been working two or three jobs each just to make ends meet. That's not where I want to be with my future. I want a sense of comfort that no matter what happens I'll have the money to take care of it. I don't exactly need a luxurious lifestyle, but I'd like to partake in a life of nicer cars, extravagant home, and cash in the bank. So after all I guess I would like to have a few dollars. I know that if I want my family to have this comfort then I'll have to plan now and stick to my plan so I can make money right away and begin to invest to insure my children with a college education of their choice. It's often hard to grow up without a substantial amount of money in the family. I'm going to make sure that my wife and kids don't have to go through all of that. On a more selfish side of the scale, I want to get out of that whole situation as well. I'd like to drive expensive cars and wear the best suits, and most of all, I always want to have money in my pocket. Like everyone else, I just want the good life. In addition to all of that, a college degree looks good on any application. So many more doors are opened to you if you have a college degree instead of just a high school diploma. With the popularity of college lately, there is so much more competition in the workforce. With a degree you would not only have that on your applications, but you'd have the knowledge that you would need to attain the right job. College is my chance to make something of myself, No one in my immediate family has graduated from college yet so I'd like for them to be proud of me for that achievement. I'm working hard in school because it's vital for my future. I need that education to accomplish all of the goals that I have set out for myself. I'm attending college for many more reasons then the ones I just mentioned, some I probably haven't discovered yet and might not for years. College is going to start my own life on a foot that is ready to leap because my career is going to take off right out of the gate. All-in-all I'm going to college for three main reasons. My immediate family is a reason because I want them to be proud of me for doing something right for once. My future family is also one because it's a big part of my life that I want to be happy and always feel comfortable. Finally for my personal financial well-being, so I can be able to treat myself to all the luxuries I want for myself. Going back to line one, all of these things are a part of my future. Isn't that what college is for after all, to prepare people for their own futures and what they bring? College is future. It's only the beginning of it.
My purpose and goals in attending college is to make something of my life. It is a good thing. No one wants to be a nobody. But sometimes it takes time in order for one to realize this. & nbsp; Upon graduation from high school, I, like the majority of others high school graduates, had no clue what direction my life was heading or even what I wanted to become.
Although Emily Dickinson was a private person throughout her life, some critics gave a negative view to her work. For example, the work of “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” is dissenting toward the nineteenth century woman. Critics imply that this work of Dickinson had a negative influence on marriage and independent women. They believe the proper place for a woman was beside her husband, but a husbandless woman, according to Dickinson, was uncertain of herself. Although the independent woman has a life, she is literally speaking through a grave. She has been deceived, driven to her death, and has been abandoned.
Dickinson's poetry is both thought provoking and shocking. This poem communicates many things about Dickinson, such as her cynical outlook on God, and her obsession with death. It is puzzling to me why a young lady such as Emily Dickinson would be so melancholy, since she seemed to have such a good life. Perhaps she just revealed in her poetry that dark side that most people try to keep hidden.
Tai Chi Chuan (TCC) is a time-honored Chinese philosophy, one that required special selection by a Master to impart the traditions and be taught to a gifted student. The art of Tai chi has evolved throughout generations and Chinese history and has become a widely practiced exercise in the United States where membership is not as difficult to attain. Chang San Feng was a 13-century Taoist Monk who studied at the Shaolin Monastery in China. It was a Chan Buddhist temple since the 5th century and Mahayana tradition was its practice and philosophy teachings. The Taoist communities were protective environments located deep in the forests and mountains where they monks could devote their life to explore nature, the cosmos, and the inner realms of the human experience (Jahnke, 2002, p. 10). Change San Feng studied the art of Shaolin Kung Fu, Taoist mediation, Yin and Yang, and Mahayana traditions. He was also very intrigued and captivated by animals in nature. He was inspired by the way animals played and danced with objects. He integrated all the disciplines learned with his observations at the Saholin Monastery to create the philosophy and practice of Tai Chi Chuan (Dwyer, 1995, p. 3).
In “The Tell Tale Heart” Edgar Allan Poe builds up suspense by guiding us through the darkness that dwells inside his character’s heart and mind. Poe masterfully demonstrates the theme of guilt and its relationship to the narrator’s madness. In this classic gothic tale, guilt is not simply present in the insistently beating heart. It insinuates itself earlier in the story through the old man’s eye and slowly takes over the theme without remorse. Through his writing, Poe directly attributes the narrator’s guilt to his inability to admit his illness and offers his obsession with imaginary events - The eye’s ability to see inside his soul and the sound of a beating heart- as plausible causes for the madness that plagues him. After reading the story, the audience is left wondering whether the guilt created the madness, or vice versa.
People have very different reasons on why going to college and getting an education is important for them. Some people go to college because that is what is expected of them, and others go because they have nothing else better to do. However, I am interested in going to college and obtaining a good education because it will benefit my family, my country, and me.
Edgar Allen Poe’s a genius of innovation. He uses the ideas that were common concerns of the time to revolve around in his short stories. Edgar Allen Poe grew up in a rough time when both his parents died, 1811. At a young age Poe was placed with a foster family in which he was treated without any respect. He took the ideas of mental illness to a sophisticated example in his short story, “The Tell Tale Heart.” “The Tell Tale Heart” is written in the gothic style that helps establish the surreal theme. Poe’s whole purpose in writing short story is to address the idea of mental illness which he portrays in his main character. Through his writing of the short story “A Tell Tale Heart” he addresses the idea that criminals were getting away with the idea pf insanity as there escape.
Attending college has helped me see the right benefits that will help me achieve my ultimate dream goals. First of all, I want to be able to learn how to relate to different cultures, ethnicities, and personalities, and also be able to understand different backgrounds, the way people from diverse culture think and act and their lifestyles; In addition, I want to learn how to adapt to new situations including dealing with responsibilities such as using Blackboard and making sure that all my assignments are completed and submitted on time. Furthermore, I will have to learn how to adapt to being an adult and taking care of my own needs.
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to be better prepared for my major, I want to be better then the next person with the job credentials. I want to major in Social Work and Criminology. I dream to be a counselor or an clinical service social worker. I want to help people who need someone there for them someone who can guide them or even just talk too. Another reason is because I would be the first in I would be the first in my family to go to college. I feel in some type of way I am setting an example for my parents and my brother that they too can go back to school. Lastly is simply because I love school. I love knowing more and more each day. College is not for everyone, but I will be successful by grasping the benefits, preparing for the problems, taking heed from experts, and working on strategies to be successful.
As I was exposed to the theme of just how dangerous it can be to believe in the myth of social mobility that surrounds the American Dream, I wondered why I ended up in college. Although I believe it is in my best interest to be here, I do think that more people need to understand that it really is not for everyone. While I am here to earn a degree in order to get a job that I love, other people may not have the same aspirations that I do. Because we all have different goals in life, I believe that young adults, especially those from the working-class, should not feel so much pressure to attend college. We all have different goals and passions and if college does not help someone achieve theirs, they should be able to stay where they are and not be chastised by society.
The poem's form and rhythm is quite important to the theme. In line two Shakespeare talks of his powerful rhyme. The poem's rhythm is iambic pentameter, which is the natural rhythm of the English language. The power is this verse comes from the way in which it flows so simply over the tongue. When spoken aloud, the poem has a cadence that is easy to remember and quite soothing. The length of the poem is another of its strengths. The condensed nature of the sonnet helps to create a strong emotional impact upon the reader. This makes the poem quite easy to remember and in a sense allowing it never to be forgotten.
College is going to start my own life on a foot that is ready to leap because my career is going to take off right out of the gate. All-in-all I’m going to college for three main reasons. My immediate family is a reason because I want them to be proud of me for doing something right for once. My future family is also one because it’s a big part of my life that I want to be happy and always feel comfortable. Finally for my personal financial well-being, so I can be able to treat myself to all the luxuries I want for myself. Going back to line one, all of these things are a part of my future. Isn’t that what college is for after all, to prepare people for their own futures and what they bring? A university is not my future, it’s only the beginning of it.
The Tell Tale Heart is a story, on the most basic level, of conflict. There is a mental conflict within the narrator himself (assuming the narrator is male). Through obvious clues and statements, Poe alerts the reader to the mental state of the narrator, which is insanity. The insanity is described as an obsession (with the old man's eye), which in turn leads to loss of control and eventually results in violence. Ultimately, the narrator tells his story of killing his housemate. Although the narrator seems to be blatantly insane, and thinks he has freedom from guilt, the feeling of guilt over the murder is too overwhelming to bear. The narrator cannot tolerate it and eventually confesses his supposed 'perfect'; crime. People tend to think that insane persons are beyond the normal realm of reason shared by those who are in their right mind. This is not so; guilt is an emotion shared by all humans. The most demented individuals are not above the feeling of guilt and the havoc it causes to the psyche. Poe's use of setting, character, and language reveal that even an insane person feels guilt. Therein lies the theme to The Tell Tale Heart: The emotion of guilt easily, if not eventually, crashes through the seemingly unbreakable walls of insanity.
Individuals in my generation that decide to go away for college may graduate with a degree but they also graduate with debt and have a hard time finding work in their area of study. College graduates are young and many may not have much experience in their field. It is a bittersweet option to go to college and further your education, I am all for it, but I am not for getting yourself in tons of debt, that will cause you to live your whole life paying off student loans and such. Which is one of the reasons why I chose to stay at home and go to community college, I’m saving money while still getting a great education. In earlier generations, people may not have felt that college was important because they needed a job to support themselves and their families. That is understandable because in the early years becoming an adult meant turning of age, 18, getting a job, moving out and starting your own family, but now turning 18 doesn’t mean you automatically are an adult and can move out and start your own life, I have friends that went to college, have a job but still are not able to move out on their own even in their
Shakespeare effectively uses his uncanny ability for rhythm in his favour to highlight the purpose of his poem. He also uses his vas vocabulary and signature use of enjambment to make the reader think about what is being said and why it is being said in that particular manner. But in true Shakespeare manner, a repetition of reading is needed to gain a greater understanding, also a bit of historical knowledge helps in understanding his thinking at the time. Shakespeare’s sonnets speak volumes within a short and simple fourteen lines. Deciphering through these techniques allows the reader to glean a greater understand of poetry as an art form and also gives the reader a deeper glance at who Shakespeare was. When doing such a close reading of Sonnet 55 we understand how it can feel to lose someone who we care about and what we would do to preserve their memory. Whether this poem was factual or not, the purpose is adequate. Even hundreds of years after the poem was written; after several battles, storms, and human catastrophes, the legacy of the poem’s anonymous subject lives on and continue to be honoured through this
