Some people go to college because that is what is expected of them, and others go because they have nothing else better to do. However, I am interested in going to college and obtaining a good education because it will benefit my family, my country, and me. My parents have this perfect life for me pictured in their heads, and the first thing they see me doing is going to college. They expect the best of me, and so by going to college, I will not only have fulfilled their goals for me, but I will have accomplished one of the goals I have set for myself. In our culture, when parents come to the age where they can’t support themselves, it is the duty of the children to look after them. We don’t just throw our elders into retirement homes and visit them twice every year. We are expected to meet their wants and needs, and that will not be possible without a good education, which will then lead to a good job. As you know, a college education is good for each individual, but not only that, it is good for the country. How important is a college education? High school seniors should consider going to college because students who gain a college education often have higher lifetime earnings and a great quantity of other benefits. There are more employers who choose to hire applicants with college degrees. People who lack college degrees are more likely to be limited to basic jobs. Those with a high school education may obtain jobs with good benefits, but college graduates often earn better. Although going to college costs a lot, it is actually true that high school seniors should go to college because they’ll learn more skills that can be applied to their jobs and they’ll have much more benefits while having a career.
In our society, a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather a necessity. The main reason people go to college is not because they want to, but because they have to. Guidance counselors and parents pressure most high school seniors to go to college because it is “the right thing to do.” Our society has it in our mind that if a person does not go to college they will not become successful. Exactly one year ago I was in high school, and being a senior was probably the most stressful year. Most seniors worried about filling out college applications and deciding what major to do. Inputting all your grades and knowing that you were not the best student is especially stressful. For most people, going to college seems
“The quality of representation often matters in criminal cases, and money often is crucial in determining the quality of representation” (Chemerinsky 2680). Money does matter in criminal cases; specifically when, the public defender’s office gets less than half the yearly budget of what the district attorney’s office gets (Houppert 156). This huge discrepancy in pay is a big problem when it comes to providing a pertinent investigation: research, paying investigators, DNA testing, fingerprint samples, and spending time with clients. In Chasing Gideon, author Karen Houppert writes about Douglas Anderson, a public defender, who admitted that he did not have enough funds to hire an investigator in over 240 cases in one year (19). Furthermore, Travis Williams in the award-winning documentary Gideon’s Army, tricks the district attorney’s office in to paying for a finger print test in one of his cases because his office could not afford one. Remember-- less money equals fewer public defenders, fewer public defenders equal huge caseloads, huge caseloads equal unjust trails, unjust trials equal more constitutional violations; furthermore, a job with low pay and heavy workloads would attract incompetent people to fill those positions, because not very many other people would want the job (Chemerinsky 2683). It is easy to understand why the public defender office is working at such a disadvantage compared to the district attorney office—profit from

The United States should find a way to provide free tuition to all students who want an education.

Higher education in the United States arose as an answer to the need to train clergy for the seminary. Throughout the centuries, higher education has evolved to become one of the principal means in educating individuals in specific areas of study. Individuals seek higher education to become more proficient in a particular occupation, area of study, or as a requisite for employment or advancement in specific fields such as engineering, management, or the sciences.
