When I was in middle school I was considered weak, soft, and a person who needed attention. They would say these things despite my athleticism and determination to do the best in whatever I’d do. When I realized the only way to prove them wrong i turned to my athleticism and the only thing keeping me sane was my passion for poetry. I did this all in the hopes of making it into college.
As an athlete I followed two sports I had a deep passion for, football and rugby. The only two sports where my intensity and rough mindset would fit perfectly.
During the past summer I went to a camp on Oahu called, G.P.A. 2016 Football Showcase. It was a first time at the position I chose, cornerback. The showcase was three days long, as the weekend went on I began shining in a certain coach's eye. He then put me inside the Top 12 of the camp in that position. I already had my goals for football and those goals were starters; to get my name in the newspaper, make my senior year memorable, and

It was a sport i had to learn from the ground up, i started with the basics. As my progression got faster and more consistent i set out goals for myself to achieve. After finishing my first season third in the state i became obsessed with my goals wanting them even more than anything else. My goals that i had for rugby were higher and more difficult to accomplish. It involved me winning the State Championship and the season MVP Award. None of these should even be considered close to “coming easy.” As my thirst for accomplishment became greater as i came to be a natural leader and teacher to those who were new to the sport. Under all the pressure of my teammates and the crowd as the leader i still prevailed, leading my team to four consecutive State Titles and also winning two MVP Awards in ‘12 and ‘15 within a four year span. I am currently the only male rugby player in Hawaii to achieve four straight State Titles with multiple MVP
My small, sweaty palms griped the cold fence as I looked on nervously at my brother’s baseball game. I was waiting for the final out of the game so that I could run onto the field and around the bases as I did after every game. As a young child, my parents were always searching for something to keep me entertained. I was a bubbly child with an endless amount of energy. Being that I was the only girl amongst four boys, I was always electrified in their presence. I wanted to be involved in all their wrestling, running and playing. Being the type of child who loved to play, I would stay outside until I was forced to come in. I would run along the dimly lit street, making up my own games and making new friends. Even when I got older, my energy did not fade. At
I loved everything about the sport, knew everything about the sport, and simply wanted to be physically involved with the sport. I signed up for my local football organization and greatly anticipated the start of the season. My first season our team finished undefeated, winning each game with ease. I played offensive line and enjoyed every play, finally being a part of the sport I loved. My coach at the time admired my hard work and dedication, repeatedly telling my fellow teammates that we should all aspire to have a work ethic such as my own. At the end of the season, my coach suggested I practice to become a quarterback. A quarterback is usually one of the skinniest players on the team, a trait I certainly didn't have. If I were to be a quarterback, I would have to lose at least thirty pounds and practice almost every day until the next season. As crazy as the suggestion seemed to me at the time, I gladly accepted the challenge and almost instantly began to work to become the best quarterback I could
Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school. Even though this was illegal I continued to go ahead and accept the offer. My first year of high school was so exciting that it went by in the blink of an eye. Sophomore year came and the clock ticked closer and closer to when everything would change. I started in varsity as a corner back but soon would have big shoes to fill as the team’s quarterback. Not only did this require skill and hard work but the ability and qualities of a leader as well. Ultimately, playing this position helped me acquire traits that would soon be necessary for success. That year was tough for us because the majority of the team consisted of inexperienced players, however the coaches knew I would be the one to lead the
College is a time for young people to develop and grow not only in their education, but social aspects as well. One of the biggest social scenes found around college campuses are athletic events, but where would these college sports be without their dedicated athletes? Student athletes get a lot of praise for their achievements on the field, but tend to disregard the work they accomplish in the classroom. Living in a college environment as a student athlete has a great deal of advantages as well as disadvantages that affect education and anti-intellectualism.
At age four, I started my first sport, soccer. From the very first practice, I was simply hooked to the new responsibility to show up at practice every Tuesday and a game every Saturday for my new Blue Valley Recreation team. I had so much fun with my soon-to-be kindergarten classmates! As I grew, I joined more and more sports like softball and dance classes, and I would do anything to get outside and play some football or tag with my family. From the time I was four until now, my love for sports and exercise has only multiplied and multiplied. Apart from the love of playing, I feel I may have gained something more from playing sports all these years. Though I was not entirely certain as to what or why I benefited from playing sports so long, I knew I had some attributes that many other non-athletes did not.
Back in my prime days I was the “big man on campus” but before I got there I had to start from the bottom. When I first started playing football I wasn’t a beast right away in fact I could barely run a lap around a track, I was that fat kid in the back huffing and puffing for some air looking like I was about to collapse. But I never quit I worked and hard and kept at it, kept grinding and the improvements I saw were tremendously drastic. The disappointment that fueled this drastic improvements was getting cut from junior varsity. Going into the 9th grade that summer I tried out for junior varsity with the mentality that I would automatically make it, I was sadly mistaken, I made it all the way the finals cuts and the coach called me into his office to tell me that I had been cut down to freshman.
It was hot, Caleb and I were warming up before the soccer game. Caleb was tall and muscular, I was short and skinny. This was our last game and we had lost all our games prior. “This could be our chance to finally win a game,” I said to Caleb. We joined the team huddle to talk about the rules the ref gave us and to be assign our positions. I was assigned right wing while caleb was assigned striker. The sun was slowly disappearing in the horizon like a item in quicksand as the game started.
The moment I stepped into the Hyde Middle School gym for tryouts, I already knew that I would make the team. The basketball I played in my Elementary school has been a big help for me coming into the tryouts. Tryouts were on August 24,2015 where we did drills to help the coach see our skills as an individual players. I could just see all the timid faces of everyone in the gym. The final few hours of tryouts, we were scrimmaging playing five on five. I thought I did a good job scoring most of my team's points besides the fact I missed a wide open lay-up. When tryouts was over, coach told me the few words that I was waiting to hear the whole entire I was at tryouts,“Congratulations, I have selected you to play on my team.”
I had all of that, but I wanted to be the best. I was going persevere and become the best tight end the AAAA SEC had ever seen. I spent that whole summer working out until summer practice came. Summer workouts for Coach Paris were so much harder than I had expected. Summer practice was always split in 3 ways by lifting, running, and then ending with run throughs a.k.a. Practice. Running was the worst part especially sprinting 200 meters on the track every single day. Lifting made me sore to where I could barely walk. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Summer workouts came to an end and the time had finally come to put the pads on and start practice.. All the coaches were as hype as the players to see who came to hit. I never hit people because I played quarterback but I gave it my all this summer and I was going show it. I was hitting people to where they didn’t want me to go anymore. Practice became harder as I had to learn all of the routes and blocking assignments. Coach Grooms worked with me everyday until I perfected everything and he was so confident in me. He NEVER answered any of my questions. Why? “In football you don’t have time to think you just have to react.” After being cussed at and pushed beyond limits I felt more confident playing tight end rather than
My passion is studying the game of football. It would be a gigantic adventure starting a football scouting business. It would be a dream come true. Starting this business would be a huge accomplishment for me. It will require a lot of effort and work but it will all be worth it!
After a long school year, plenty of of my friends and family would plan vacations to places all over the country. From the “Big Apple” in New York to the “Windy City” in Chicago, the well-deserved summer break was the time to get away. For me, I would always take a trip to a resort where the grass constantly stayed green and the sun everlastingly shined bright. As soon as I arrive, the visible heat waves would greet me with a warm welcome and I would begin to do what I love most, play football. The game that taught me more than just how to score a touchdown, became one of the greatest learning experiences in my life. My love for playing football has helped me understand and develop skills that I will use for the rest of my life. The hardship
Football is America’s greatest game. One thing I would love to accomplish in the future is to play professional football. First, I have always wanted to play professional football ever since I was little it’s just my thing I have always wanted to do I want to be on Television when I grow up to show what I can do. Second, professional football pays really good money. You get a lot of money by winning football games and super bowls. Last, I love to play football you get to hit people as hard as you want you also, get to run the ball a lot. As can be seen, I would like to experience a professional football game.
I watched daily, rather I measured daily, how the white and lightly lavender tinted flowers slowly germinated in my biology class, emanating in a slumped state and slowly gathering its strength to stand on its own. Like the flowers, I found that as a little girl I grew up in a slumped state, obscured from the world of English and oblivious to what I wanted to become when I grow up. But as time slowly evolved I found that my devouring passion for learning and my interest in medicine sprung from the seeds of patient that were deeply planted in me.
I picked football because I had played it for 2 years and did not want to miss playing it and miss my friends and I have been playing football ever since and I love it.
Victoria has a long history of being a football town. My uncles whom I am close to played in high school. Because how the town loves football and how my uncle love football I love football. The enjoyment I get from playing football is how it keeps you shape and shows how teams struggle, and playing makes you part of a team.
