Basketball at Hyde
The moment I stepped into the Hyde Middle School gym for tryouts, I already knew that I would make the team. The basketball I played in my Elementary school has been a big help for me coming into the tryouts. Tryouts were on August 24,2015 where we did drills to help the coach see our skills as an individual players. I could just see all the timid faces of everyone in the gym. The final few hours of tryouts, we were scrimmaging playing five on five. I thought I did a good job scoring most of my team's points besides the fact I missed a wide open lay-up. When tryouts was over, coach told me the few words that I was waiting to hear the whole entire I was at tryouts,“Congratulations, I have selected you to play on my team.”

The first few weeks were tiring. Every practice I will always come home with nasty sweat covering my whole body; but that means a good coach willing to push us over the limits. We all kept learning new plays and improving every practice. A lot of the times when we would all mess up, coach would always help us improve and do a lot of push-ups. The worst days of practice are when we don't have the gym and we have to practice outside. Mostly because the temperature always feels like 100 degrees but also the dirtiness of the concrete comes onto our hands. On the plus side though, every two days of practice we would alternate switching within the gym with the seventh graders and the eighth …show more content…
We all thought that if we could do it once, we could do it twice which really gave me the confidence to play hard. After the third quarter ended, we lost our energy thinking we would lose because all our shots weren't falling which led to a big difference. When the fourth quarter started, coach brought up a really good point which we missed during the first three quarters which was to press! We then all remembered our saying which was If you could do it once we could do it twice so we used our press and somehow got back in the game! We maintained our lead all the way to the end. We all cheered loudly and high fived the other team which mostly all of them were crying sobbing with tears. Coming into the second game we were excited and hopeful on our quarter-final performance. Now it's the semi-finals. We played against Cupertino Middle School which only lost one game out of seven games the entire season middle school basketball. This time we remembered to use our press which worked again pretty well. They had many turnovers with the ball but they still managed to win us. It was a tough lost to a team in the semi-finals but it was worth a try and we still fought as a team which is the most important part in playing
I play volleyball as an outside hitter for Berea College. Therefore, the question I want this statistical research paper to answer pertains to volleyball. Specifically, I want to know if there is a relationship between the height of a volleyball player and the number of blocks she has in a set. A block constitutes the deflection of a ball into the opponent’s court, directly resulting in a point. I am interested in the answer to this question for a couple of reasons. First, it directly relates to one of my passions and is applicable to my current stage of life. Also, I believe the answer to this question will help me become a better volleyball player, which is an important goal in my life right now. I believe there is a positive relationship between height and blocks per set, meaning the taller a volleyball player
The game of basketball today has taken the world by storm. Basketball has become one of the most popular sports worldwide. Amazing athletes like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Carmelo Anthony have amazed NBA and basketball fans all over the world. Basketball was created as a humble game with a peach basket in 1891 by James Naismith. Most people would agree that the best basketball player of all time is Michael Jordan. But how did the game evolve? The Harlem Globetrotters helped the game grow in the 1920’s
It was the most competitive three days of my life, basketball tryouts. This is the first time my friends and I were trying out for a school team, we were all hyped for basketball season. I entered the tryout excited and consequently energetic. Adrenaline was pulsing through all the players bodies, there were 6 foot tall 8th graders with years of experience competing against 6th graders who have never touched a basketball before for the same spots. I was in between, I was a 6th grader that had experience along with some skill. That was also my downfall, I went in overconfident and consequently cocky. I wasn’t planning on getting cut, I walked into the tryout overwrought, nothing could stop me from being on the team.
First I would be only be accepted as a member of the baseball team if could prove my worth on the practice field and demonstrate my skills as a fielder and hitter. The first opportunity to prove that came at tryouts. Tryouts are the time to showcase everything you’ve got, from making the simple plays to laying out and making a diving catch in the outfield. When it was my turn to make that play I felt all eyes on me, silently judging me. Everyone was doing it, the coaches to determine rank among the hopeful newcomers and among the veterans, the veterans watching me, trying to see if I was a threat to their starting role, and even the other players trying out, hoping I would fail so I wouldn’t
This Sunday, I have my first basketball tournament of the year. It is in Waverly. I am kind of nervous because, it is the first of the year. I think we will do good if we keep the turnovers to a minimum. I will probably be on the bench to start. I am a backup point guard. That means, I take the ball up the court. The point guard is the captain of the court. If you want to be a point guard, you need to be aggressive. You need to have good ball control and you can’t panic to easily. Point guards need to realize that turnovers happen. The easiest thing to being a point guard, is the part where you have to be relied on to win games. That means you can’t choke in game-deciding moments. I have done that before. When I am not playing point guard,
Michael Jordan once said “I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win”. This have help people of all ages get through their burdens and do something they love instead of doing some negative. For many people basketball has become more than a game, it’s the way of life. The American game of basketball has traveled now, it’s played by more than 250 million people worldwide.
Originally referred to as “Kick baseball” during its primitive years, kickball is a league game closely resembling baseball. Kickball was invented in 1917 by Supervisor of Cincinnati Park Playgrounds Nicholas C. Seuss, with the humble intention of teaching the children fundamentals of baseball. The early kickball field was designed similar to the baseball diamond, consisting of four bases. It involved two teams, the fielding team that tags the opposing team, and the kicking team that kicks the ball. But instead of instructing kids to buy baseball bats, as would be necessary in baseball, he modified the game so that kids could opt to use their feet to kick the ball.
Do you want to learn about the fascinating history of Duke basketball? I personally love Duke! I have been a fan ever since I was born. For the past few years, I have dedicated myself to becoming devoted to Duke basketball. My mom is even an alumna, which made me really appreciate the history of Duke. I have even been to a game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, which has been one of the greatest experiences of my life!
We didn 't play the way we wanted. Even though we struggled, we still did some things right. If we just focus on the things we did well like; boxing out, playing tough defense, and rebounding, we can work around those things and build up the things that needed to be worked on. I know that we can step up and play at a higher level. We just have to make some fundamental changes and work on some things in practice and I think that it will help in our next game. We can hold on to this loss for the night but when you come to practice tomorrow we aren 't going to hang on to this feeling we need to shake it off and start to prepare for our next game. We just need to use this game as an opportunity to see what we need to work on and build off of that. Once we improve what we need to, I think we can get to the level of success we want.”
Basketball is more than just a sport it is a way a life. To be fully engaged in the sport, it cannot be part time. It has to be a full commitment by the player. I do not spend every hour of every day dedicated to basketball, but every free chance I get aside from work and school I play basketball to help prepare myself for the upcoming season. Countless hours spent on the court can really help a player with many different factors. Basketball may not only help to develop athletic skills, but may also teach one how to manage his time and teach him how to overcome fear when the outcome of the game rests with him.

Once I get warmed up the coach calls us to the circle at halfcourt. “Alright this is tryouts if you don’t make the team i’m sorry, so let’s have a standard tryout and play” he boomed.
Can you imagine playing the game of basketball without a three point line? Basketball has constantly changed throughout history and continues to change today. The National Basketball Association has risen in popularity and is now one of America’s more popular sports. Because basketball continues to be a popular sport, a fan should learn about the origin of the NBA, how the game evolved from the late 1940s to the early 2000s, and how the players today impact the way it is played.
My personal project is about sport. I chose this theme because I think that it concerns everybody. At least once everyone has done sport in his life. Certainly when he was a child he played a lot of games, for example football, hockey, etc., ran and jumped all the time. Plenty of people go on with doing sport in their adulthood.
Don’t you just love basketball? Weather you’re playing in a game or watching it you always seem to find something that gets you mad or irritates you. Don’t you just love having a bad game, getting a lot of criticism, problems with the refs or injuries? Basketball is such a frustrating sport and for some reason people still love it. They love all that stuff, and for people who don’t watch or play it
