It was hot, Caleb and I were warming up before the soccer game. Caleb was tall and muscular, I was short and skinny. This was our last game and we had lost all our games prior. “This could be our chance to finally win a game,” I said to Caleb. We joined the team huddle to talk about the rules the ref gave us and to be assign our positions. I was assigned right wing while caleb was assigned striker. The sun was slowly disappearing in the horizon like a item in quicksand as the game started. After the whistle was blown to signalfy the game to start, the opponent had dribbled through our defences and took a shot , ding it went of the cross bar. Our team faces open with surprise. Our defence pass the ball up to Caleb, then caleb to me. I ran …show more content…
wind blowing in my face, my breathing increased heart pumping faster and harder. I was at their 18 yard line. So far the other team's defence couldn't touch me, then finally someone hit me like a truck. I was on the ground breathing. There was no foul and the game stilled continue. I eventually go back up and ran back to our half of the field. The opponent foot make contact with to ball, seconds later swoosh the ball hit the back of the net . It was like watching a accident. Our team was not the best, our goalie was short only about five feet tall and our defenders not having a clue in how to defend. As we make our way back up the half line people faces were down and already doubting us to win. Then we started again, Caleb passed the ball to me and I took off. The crowd roared and cheered as a passed the other team’s defenders, the other team faces began to become tomatoes. Blood vessels popping out like like mountains on a topographic map. The adrenaline was pumping in me again.Thump I passed the ball to Caleb, we were at the 18 yards again. Caleb crossed the ball to me, thump my foot made contact with the ball. The ball was traveling through the air making its way towards the net, but out of nowhere the goalkeeper comes out and saves it. The other team friends and family cheered and roared. I pounded the ground, my face was becoming red. We started to back up and waiting for the goalkeeper to punt it. Thump the ball soaring in the air. Then the other team gained possession of the ball. The began to pass the ball around, our team could not get the ball , this made us look like fools. The other team started to laugh and messing around. I started to run harder and play more pushing and shoving. One of the other team’s player started to run towards the goal. I started to chase him. The air was blowing my hair back, i breathed harder and harder. I was finally neck and neck to him. Remembering how they were making fun of us I used my might and pow i knock the player off the ball and to the grown. There was no foul because it was a fair tackle. He started to wave his hands around shouting loud as a megaphone. I turned around and gave him a grin. It gave me satisfaction as i acted like that I passed the ball to players on my team. Then one made a mistake and we lost possession. I was breathing so hard, and started to slow down. I started to Watch the other pass our defence again. Then all the sudden one of the other player cocks back his legs then swings it forward making contact with the ball, crack the ball was a bullet. The ball was placed upper 90 corner. I started shouting at our defence and midfield. Now down by two our defence lost interest in the game, as the other team were celebrating. Screech the whistle blew to signal half time. I went to get water, i was a desert.
The water entered my mouth it cooled my body i was relaxed. I placed a cool towel on my face. Instantly goosebumps appeared and my body was refreshed. As i looked my teams heads were down. We formed a huddle again, it smelt like a gym locker room and was hot like a sauna. I told everyone “ alright guys we can win this” everyone was doubting it except Caleb. We started to go back on the pitch aka the field. My cleats sank in the grass, “it felt good” i thought. The other team started with the ball , so we lined up outside the circle. I whispered to Celeb “ charge them” He replied with a thumbs up. I look at the opponent with a small grin. I felt like a had a devious plan to win. The screech the whistle blew. They started it and me and Caleb charged them. The opponent frozen like a deer in headlights. Caleb took the ball and ran. No one could take him down because of his size. I sprinted down the field waiting for the cross. My feet pushed off the ground faster and faster. The adrenaline kick in again. Caleb passed the ball, then suddenly time slowed down. I was going in for the header. I jumped up with my might , the ball made contact with my head the thoomp. Swoosh. I scored the excitement filled my body and
the crowd roaring. This time with a smile brighter than the sun, I raised my hands and made a heart. We started heading back with the feeling satisfaction still in me. My team wasn’t down any more, but instead up with the look of determination and enthusiasm. They started up with the ball. This time as they passed the ball around we intercepted it. The defensed passed the ball up to me than i passed it to Caleb. We continue passing the ball back and forward and the other team couldn't touch us. It felt good to give them a little taste of their own medicine. Then we made our way up to their 18 yards line again. I did plenty of skills the determination and adrenaline help me do them. Passing the whole line of defence making the other team players humiliated it was just me and the goalkeeper. I thought of the moves i can use on the goalkeepers ; chiping him, finessing him go around him the list goes on and on. Than i finally decided it was like picking the answer on a multiple choice question on a test.I kicked the underneath the ball it floated up and over the goalkeeper like a butterfly. The ball slowly crossed the line and the crowed roared. It was louder than ever, We got up and started to go back to the halfway line. We waited for the whistle. It started they were playing more possession ever, keeping the ball away from us.In a few seconds they got throught our defense. Without hesitation I ran. I was a cheetah and i caught up to him in no time. He began to cock his leg back, immediately i stick out my leg. Thump Thump. When i open my eyes i realized i block it, the crowed roared and claps. I got back up pushing off the moist grass. The other team had gotten the corner. Every lined up, and the tension builds up. Knock the corner taker kicks and it soars in the air. All the sudden our defender kicks it out, and we’re on the counter attack. The midfield passes up to me. I did skills once more. I am back at the outline with a few defenders left. All the sudden, pop the defender comes in and misses the ball and instead a feeling of weightlessness and then feeling the moist ground once again. The ref blew the whistle and Shouted “you cannot do that!” I slowly got up and saw we had a free kick. I told my teammates i'll take it. It was in scoring zone only 18 yards from the goal. The other team goalkeeper waving his arms and giving order to the players standing side by side like a wall. It was the 87 minute ” It was our last chance” I thought. I lined up for the kick, my eyes on the ball like a kid seeing cake. Sweat was pouring like rain across my forehead. I looked at the goalkeeper, we were staring at eachother like in western shootout. I began my stride towards the ball, i start to cock my leg back and released it forward. Smack the ball was moving forwards and woosh above the wall. Time seemed to slow down as the ball came closer. The goalkeeper started to jump and reach the ball, i watched clutching my fist and biting down. The ball slowly missed the hand of the goalkeeper. Swoosh it hit the back of the net. Face smiling and me screaming i ran to celebrate. Raising my hand one last time and sliding down the moist grass. My team mates and the crowd were cheering, Quinn. I felt relief and i got off the ground, i was filled with grass stains and some mud stains. “This wasn't over yet,we still have 3 minutes left.” We all rushed back with grins on our faces and cheerfulness in our eyes. The game started again and they played more aggressive. There was fire in their eyes. They passed the ball around us again, but this time our defenders had hope and wanted to win. Our defense matched up the aggressiveness with the other teams. Caleb and I dropped back to help. We stop their shots. Finally screech the whistle blew. The game was over and every had grins and were jumping around, The other team had frowns and their coaches mouth moving faster than ferraris. Everyone said “great job” to me. That day i learn if you're determined you can do anything
...e bus and off we went. As soon as we arrived we were told that the kick off would be in ten minutes. After a quick warm up we were ready. My hands were shaking, heart pounding but I couldn’t wait to start. When the game started my nerves escaped from my head and I was focused on the match.
Two teams are on the court racing for the ball. The gym is suffocatingly hot and, the students are flailing their arms in the air. The game is a mix of basketball and soccer. Gym class has begun. Blue and yellow jerseys fly throughout the gym with tiny sixth graders inhabiting them. The Yellow team scores and a player picks up the ball forcefully, ready to score once more . The Blue team runs across the gym back and forth like birds stuck in a cage. As the Yellow team scores the heads of the discouraged Blue team hang in disappointment. . The Perspiration is scattered on the bodies of the lively children. The Yellow team begins running for the ball and now looks like a pack of wild animals hunting their prey. They run fiercely towards their victims, each one aiding the next to achieve one goal, to kill. Wisst the sound of the whistle halts the game. Water drips from the water fountain onto the floor . The thirsty children flee the gym. Halftime
I looked in their faces and knew mine mirrored theirs. I didn’t want it to, but it did. Just ten minutes ago, we all were so jubilant. We were so sure we were going to win. We had all wanted it for so long, but we finally felt is as our destiny just a few moments ago. But as our opponent threw the ball in the air, I knew she was just about to serve another ace. However, when the ball landed three feet in front of our best passer, something snapped inside of me.
Forty seconds left until game time. Here we go again, versing one of our biggest rivals, Belleville West. As usual, I’m starting. Defense has always been my go to position and this year I’m playing right back. The air around us is cold, considering we aren’t quite in spring yet. Eleven of us disperse on to the field, all in blue, determined to win. The referee blows his whistle, piercing our ears, and twenty two pairs of feet stir into action. Our back line is staring at the ball move towards the goal when suddenly things turn around. Hurriedly we shift to the left, ensuring the ball is put to a stop. Hannah boots the ball up the long green field and we’re all hopeful. West is playing hard; aggressive is their style. They win possession. Back
It was once a game in our hands and now rested in the hands of a striped uniform. While the play was being reviewed, there was a commercial break. The sweat, that used to be clamming up my palms quickly spread to my forehead and the rest of my body; and the cold house suddenly felt like a hot summer’s day. Though it was only seconds, it felt like years. After an incredible catch, and certainly at the best time, I could not grasp the fact that there was a possibility the play would be reversed. The game returned from the commercial and the Ref called out the final ruling. The words that left his mouth were like nails on a chalk board to my ears, the remote fell to floor, as I was in total
The horn blew and the game started, Dedham won the face off and is running down the field at a faster pace than I was used to. They shot the ball! I couldn’t move my stick quick enough to save it, so I threw my body in front of it and got hit right in the shoulder. It hurt a lot, but what I hadn’t realized was that it hit my shoulder and reflected ten feet away from the net where my player caught it and ran down the field and scored. The other team didn’t know what hit them. It was the half now and the score was three to nothing in our favor. Our couch told us that we needed to keep up the good work.
It was a hot summer day. I was up to bat, I grabbed my bat and walked to the batter’s box. The pitcher stared me down and I stared him down. It was 2 outs. I watched the white ball leave his hands. It was almost in slow-mo (almost as slow mo as I am making this story). I swung my bat forcefully, it was high, fast, and foul. The second pitch came I hit this it was right next to the white fair line.
I saw that the girl, who was taking the ball, turned her stick in the direction she heard the voice, but she did not look up to make sure that nobody was covering her. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion as she pulled her stick back and hit the ball. Afterward I sped back over to where the ball was soaring and reached out my stick, I then tried to hit the ball. I felt like a bull charging at a red flag as I whacked the ball to the ground. My coaches and my team went wild, in joy that I had just blocked the most powerful ball I had ever seen. I felt like a bull who finally reached its goal to finally reach that red flag. I finally felt like I had accomplished my goal. I had waited years for this to
I’ve played football for nine years now, and participated in over 85 games. I’ll openly admit that practices got to be the most dreaded part of my day by the time my senior year rolled around, nonetheless gameday’s never became wearisome. The miserable as well as submissive game day nerves can keep you from eating, thinking straight, and also make relaxing an unattainable task. Yet, as I sit here pondering back on football season, I’d treasure the displeasure of those nerves just one final time.

Riley, our starting quarterback, placed his hands on the helmet of the right tackle, as he did every play. He called the play looking straight into my eyes signaling the pass was coming to me. My entire body tingled with excitement as I ran to the left of the field. I could feel my cleats dig into the soft, freshly cut field as I took my stance. I looked up into the sky seeing only white lights which created the stage for the football field. As I brought my head down slowly to see the white eyes of the defender across from me, my heart beat slowed and I was still, in peace for the short moment. The quarterback hiked the ball and I began in pursuit; shifting, juking to get away from my defender. We were side-by-side running down the field as the ball was thrown into the air, coming strait to me. I jumped up and became airborne, snagging it from the lit up, night sky. Falling back with the ball secured into my arms, I felt my defenders full weight push into my left leg. A snap rang out as we hit the ground together and I looked down to see a large bump sticking straight left out of my
The play was "Red 334"which is a run to our halfback, me, out of our dive series. I crouched over the ball as I jetted past the quarterback and ran the play so we could observe the changes we needed to make. I let out a sigh of relief because we were finished with the most dreaded part of practice; well, only until someone complained about not knowing their job on one of our pass plays. Coach Nelson undoubtedly decided we needed to run through the final pass play before we perfected our defense. The play was quietly called in the huddle with intentions of getting it right. I ran the play through my mind while I tried to remember what the snap count was and what I was supposed to do for that play. The ball was snapped and I jolted to the left of our team's quarterback to set up his backside protection. Out of my peripheral vision, I noticed the defensive end raging toward the quarterback. I intensely stepped into him while lowering my body and exploded through his shoulder pads sending him stumbling into the line's pass protection.
Vivid moonlight, dim city, slight overcast on the noxious night. Cool breeze blows over your sweltering body. Heart racing, sweat pouring, adrenaline pumping through the body like gas through the engine of a car. Body trembling, hands shaking, eyes twitching, foot uneasy as beady eyes observe your every move. Thunderous noise coming from the crowd, situation getting heavier the closer you get to the line. Tension raised to the max as time draws nearer….5-0 no where to be found, time to go. Moment of truth draws near, one hand rises, heartbeat rises with it. Second hand rises, heartbeat rises even more with it. The body tightens up; the mind focuses as you get ready. Hands drop just as fast as your foot drops to the floor. Loud squealing coming from behind you, body is thrown back, scenery passing by, quickly becoming a blur. Hands in a death-grip, body is pulsating, mind is clear, feeling of freedom overcomes. Focus quickly turns to mirror to glance at opponent just as quick as it focuses back. Eyes now focused on goal ahead, body also feeling the closeness of the goal. Embracing of the feeling, then silence……. Triumph, glory comes as the moment ends and the mind and body slowly returns back to normal. Now comes the return to the real world.
The game was the last game of the tournament until the finals. It was the getting to the completion of the first half. Defense strong on both sides. The ball rolling back towards the direction I am in, at full speed. I am back at half-line waiting patiently. Thinking to myself what should I do next. At that moment my eyes were focused near the goal and then to the left forward, Anna. I attempted to aim my kick towards Anna but the ball didn’t shift of my foot right,
I love the sport of football. I love it because it is a good work out to relax my bones and to keep me in good shape. I love to run and tackle, so football is the perfect game for me. Football also encourages me to build my memory and thinking skills. Football is a rough sport, so I have learned how important safety is to both the game and my everyday life.
