People always have others who look to them for guidance and look to them to be a role model. This is what we call a leader. A leader must have people who follow them. Without people who follow leaders there would be no such thing as a leader. I have had the opportunity to be a leader in my life. This experience made me realize who I am and who I wanted to be. Having people look to me as a role model really made me look at who I am as a person and really try to become the best person that I can be. When you have small children looking towards you, you have to be the best person that you can be. During the summer I participate in a week theater camp. I started when I was young and participated every year that I could. When I was younger I found several extremely influential role models and I looked up to them to understand what it would be like to be older. I looked up to these people and they could do no wrong in my eyes. As I grew older, I realized that the younger participants in the plays started looking up to me. This was shocking to me because I never thought that people would look up to me. When I realized this I started looking at who I wanted to be and how to be a good role model for these young people who could shape the world. The next summer when I went to the camp again I saw these children again and they looked …show more content…
up to me again. During this summer I realized the difference in the children’s attitudes as I changed how I presented myself. I have also had the great pleasure of helping teach a class of younger students at my dance studio.
These students that I work with once a week have taught me as much as I have taught them. As I teach them to dance they teach me how much a single person can influence another. The easiest to see is in the clothing that I wear. If one week I wear a long sleeved shirt, I found that most of the girls would wear a long sleeved shirt the next week. Another thing that I found can be easily passed from one person to another is attitude. I always try to keep my attitude happy and light. Due to this I found that the class is always cheerful and
happy. People, especially children, will always look towards the nearest adult figure to follow and to look towards for guidance. There is no greater honor than being a role model and I am extremely pleased that I have been awarded this honor not just once in my life, but many times. Due to my life experiences I can whole heartily say that leading by example is indeed a reality.
It is the job of a leader to be a role model because people look up to you. Leadership is something I may have to work on a little because I am a shy person, but that doesn’t stop me. Last year, some 6th grade student were going to be selected to give a tour of the school to the 5th graders who were coming to Great Hollow the following year. My teacher was unsure that I would be a good choice because I am quiet in class. But I convinced him to let me be a tour guide and he was impressed with my performance. I was excited and talked to the students about the school and I was happy to be a leader and show the 5th graders what to do. I proved to myself I had
A role model is someone that is sought for guidance, and often admired. When thinking of my own role model, the qualities I wish to have when I become an adult come to mind. When scanning through the many influential adults that have shaped who I am today, deciding on just one role model is a difficult feat. However, I see the person I wish to become, reflected in the life of my dad. For that reason, my role model is my own father.
Being a leader is no simple task. During my Eagle Scout project, I lead a range of people, from adults to youth. It was my job to make sure everyone was working and, that everyone was capable of doing their task. I had many issues doing this throughout my project because I am only one person and I can’t be everywhere at once. Thusly made being a leader a drudgery. But I had an incredible set of adults guiding me along the way, who taught me that being a leader was not doing everything myself, being a leader
I have been a part of multiple pep rallies and am a role model to younger students. One moment, in particular, stands out to me on how much difference I can make in younger children. My new cheer coach had asked if anyone would be interested in volunteering their time to help the middle school squad learning the cheers. Being Varsity Cheer Co-Captain, I was more than happy to oblige. It was a no-brainer to help out because cheer is one of my favorite things. As I laced up my cheer shoes, I glanced up, I noticed the fresh-faced cheerleaders who timidly walked into the gym. They reminded me of me at that age, afraid that they didn't have what it took to be a cheerleader. However, as practices went on, they became more confident in their abilities. Volunteering my time was well worth it, I got to see the cheerleaders grow into more confident cheerleaders and people.
I had learned many things from others that helped me to grow mentally and physically and allowed me to be successful. For example, a few years later there was a time when I did not know how to drive. My boyfriend came along to help through this situation I was facing. He thought all about the signs of the road, what it meant and so on. I learned a lot from him. Since that time, I am now able to drive around anywhere I want and most importantly I can help my family with grocery shopping and sometimes when I don’t have school, I offer my siblings a ride to school. This was also an opportunity for me to find a great job that I could now attend to early. Compare to before it was difficult for me to make it on time because of having to take the city bus. As I learned how to drive from my boyfriend I was able to grow mentally and be
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p. 3). While playing an active role in your community is a positive thing it does not make someone a leader of that community. All leaders have a group of people they have inspiration too and that is a good way of determining who your personal leaders are. My mother, brother, and grandfather are my leaders because I have always looked up to them and tried to mimic some of the great things that I have seen them do. My mother has always been an independent women with goals and an action plan to accomplish those set goals. Stephen, my elder brother, is outgoing and tends to have a leveled head when it comes to evaluating stressful situations. My grandfather is the most caring person I know and he is amazing at keeping situations under control in order to please everyone. These are all the qualities I want to combine into my own leadership style. I know I am not a efficient leader of these actions yet, but I plan on growing into this as I more on into my career, fulfill my set goals, and adjust to the curve-balls that life throws at me.
I have had many leaders in and out of my life over the years and thus, my number one influence to lead has changed as well. When I was growing
I believe that leadership is not something that you are born with, but that has to be learned over time. You learn to become a leader from watching other leaders, and also from personal experience. People should become leaders; so that they can help others do their best. They should not become leaders for the title and power that may come with leadership. Being a leader does not mean you get to boss people around by telling them what to do. The purpose of a leader is to guide others by encouraging, showing them the way, and by challenging them to do the best that they can do. I learned leadership through personal experience. In high school I played sports and had many class projects to do. My senior year was the first time my school had a soccer program, and I along with two other girls was captains. As we all know, when a group of girls come together, the drama comes too. All three of the captains had to work together and show the girls that if we wanted this program to be a success and grow, they had to work together as well. It was hard at first, but when we encouraged everyone, it worked out better than expected in the end. Also, in my business class, we had a lot of projects that were mostly group projects. During the end of the year, we had a project where we had to make up a new product. My partner and I were both seniors and it was a stressful time with finals, SAT scores, graduation, and trying to become honor graduates. We were tired and just did not want to do another project, but our teacher, Mr. Brace, did not give up on us. He showed us what to do, and encouraged us constantly every day. He would tell us many positive things and would check up on us. He was a great teacher and a great leader. Leadership may be one wo...
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
There are both leaders and followers in this world, no matter which you are it is undeniable that without the leaders society would fall apart. Leadership as defined in the dictionary is “ a person who guides or directs a group”, although accurate this simple sentence does not give justice to the importance of leadership. People need to be guided and have someone to look up to, and whether you are born with leadership or acquire it the way you utilize it is the most critical. There are and have been many impressive leaders in this world but one who stands out is Nelson Mandela. Born into the Madiba tribe of South Africa a name he would later adopt as his own, he is known for his philanthropy, strong political influence, and being a revolutionist in the anti-apartheid of South Africa. He is such a shining example of ideal leadership not just because of the impact he had but the starkly different way he handled things for his time. He advocated compassion, forgiveness and determination causing him to be the first black president of South African reigning from 1994-1999. His death this december caused grief but also a celebration of the wonderful influential life he enjoyed. This union of people demonstrated how many lives he touched and the vivacious presence he brought wherever he went, which is why he will forever be known as one of the best rulers, one who truly defines leadership in the most veracious of ways.
A trend I noticed throughout the majority of my volunteer and extracurricular activities was the constant interaction with younger children. Whether it was teaching, tutoring or simply being a friend, the children I encountered all identified me as their role model. Growing up, I never saw myself becoming a doctor or being interested STEM because nobody in my family had ever pursued a science career; I thought it would be impossible. Not having role models available for me to look up to hindered my confidence in excelling in science. As I grew and became more involved STEM
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
In addition a lot of my peers told me that they looked up to me, and that I made leading look easy. Which made me feel guilty because this is who I am. I've always cared about people more than the common person. I don't mind leading, and I don't mind following. My parents told me as a young child that I need to lead by example.
There are always those people who go beyond and above our expectations in different ways and affect our lives whether they know it or not. Some people leave positive impressions and others can affect us with their negative behaviors. Some examples of people who I believe to be leaders in my life are my mother. Though she holds very different views on life than me, she is a huge role model to me. My mom is a hard worker and has always done everything she can for the best of our family. She has provided so many huge opportunities for me and my siblings that I am privileged to experience, like our college educations. My brother is another person in my life that I view as a positive leader. Even though he is much younger than me, he has helped shape me into the responsible and caring person I am today. It has been a joy to be his older sister, care giver, and play mate growing up
