I stared at that trash can with frustration. The small, round, metal bin that complemented the corner of my room so perfectly, sitting beside my old wooden computer table. While usually empty, that bin has recently become full. It would be like that until trash day, a constant reminder of my failed efforts to produce something worthwhile. I’m getting distracted. I eagerly tear a piece of paper from a black sketchbook, one of many that occupy my shelf. Some filled with 150 pages of vivid art. Others empty, ready to be filled, to impress the next individual who entrusts an amateur such as myself. Although, by Google's definition of ‘professional’, could I possibly declare myself one? I act on my curiosity. A professional is “engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.” Nevermind, I stand corrected. By seventeen, I’d gone through a long client list, raising prices somewhat while dramatically improving quality. By now, I’ve created everything from logos, for YouTubers, to business websites and animations. Recently I’ve added photography, currently my most popular service. So when I’m not occupied by lacrosse, self studying AP Computer Science, being president of my school’s Muslim Student Association, or my job in retail, I find myself trying to improve my business however possible. After having this amazing experience, I feel as if I’ve taken a large step into entrepreneurship, a world which I so passionately crave to be part of. But no matter where this road takes me or how far I get in the industry of business, computers, art, or maybe all three, I can proudly look back at those white walls and that small metal bin that so perfectly complements that corner of my room and smile, knowing that’s where it all
