My clinical rotation in the acute care hospital has definitely been a great learning experience, it was a big transition for me having been working in a long-term care facilities for six years. There were three positive aspects about my performance that I will take away from this learning experience. When working and during my clinical rotation in long term care I had patients with functional limitations due to chronic illness or patients that were there to stay and live there. It was limiting to certain clinical experiences. During this rotation I got hands on experience with patients with acute conditions, infections and accidents. Another good learning experience was being able to navigate and document in the patient’s chart with the computer system Power Chart. It has helped me gather information about what areas need focused on when completing a comprehensive assessment on my patient. I got to read assessments of various healthcare providers. I think it is different when practicing on a manikin versus actually doing it in real life. My instructor was able to give me some great feedback, as well as helpful tips that I will be able to apply during my next clinical rotation. An area I believe I need to improve on is my communication skills; looking for opportunities to interact with patients, family members, nurses and doctors. I need to practice professional communication skills, with all these people, adjusting the terminology and level of detail to be right for the person I am communicating with, and asking more questions to get more information about my
