Prep for clinical practice this semester has been an excellent way to prepare me for my future semesters and career. My understanding of course material and concepts that I studied have definitely improved as a result of my participation, and has also taught me new skills and education relative to the dental hygiene profession. Observing the dental hygiene students in year 2 was also an excellent way to prepare for clinic in semester 3 and for next year. Prep for clinical has been a new way to explore skills to deal with complications that I may come across during my career. For example, clients who are victims of sexual abuse or violence. Learning about sensitive practice has not only taught me about what it is, but has also given me options …show more content…
For example, they have a sign in, a treatment coordinator, can sign up for radiographs and get to document on EMR, rather than doing it on paper. There are a lot of things to be excited for in the upcoming semesters. The benefits from participating in the clinical observation was that we get to see what we will be doing, we get to see how the clinical interacts with the clients and we also get to see things that we are learning in clinic, done on real clients. It surprised me how fast clinic went by when observing the year twos. I was able to reflect afterwards on new experiences that I had seen during the clinical observation, as stated above. I think that the biggest skill I took from the observation was professionalism. Professionalism is a huge factor in within the dental hygiene profession, and especially in clinic. Everything you do matters and counts towards how professional you are including your ironed uniform and even your hair needs to look neat and professional. I observed a few things that I would make sure to not do myself during a clinical session. I was not sure what to expect during a clinic with clients or how it would all work, but I got the chance to see some charting done for a client which was neat to see done. I also got the chance to see the clinician use EMR. It was very interesting to see how it was all set out and how it worked during a clinical appointment with a
The expectation in the practitioner/client relationship is that any information disclosed will not be shared with others. Confidentiality is emphasized to provide the client with a safe haven in which to share traumatic events or embarrassing personal information about themselves (Krase, 2013). Disclosing this type of sensitive information...
I have undertaken work experience at a local NHS practice to observe what the profession entails. The difficulty of the job was admirable due to the level of manual dexterity and patience involved. In addition, I saw the importance of compassion that dentists showed to their patients
Apart from this I have developed my skills such as problem solving by always taking on the challenges in each of my subjects by trying to find the best solutions I also learned many useful information about our thoughts and mental health by studying psychology which I think it’s going to help me make wise decision in the way I interact with my patients and member of the dental team.
Therapy Analysis The purpose of this paper is to examine the efficacy of my work as a co-therapist during the fifth session with the simulated couple Katy and Michelle. I will discuss our therapy agenda and the goals we hope to attain during the session. It is prudent to begin by giving a brief outline of the couple’s present problem and the patterns of dysfunction that I have identified within their relationship. In my opinion, it is the therapist’s job to recognize patterns and behaviors that disrupt the intimate bond between the partners.
Utilising John’s model of structured reflection I will reflect on the care I instigated to a patient with complex needs. The patient in question was admitted to the Emergency Assessment Unit for surgical patients then transferred to the ward where I work as a staff nurse.
Throughout my final ten weeks at my placement, I have grown and overcome so many obstacles. I have accomplished a wide range of skills since the beginning and have been improving on them as I gained experience. At my placement as a student nurse, I have gained a lot of confidence, skills, knowledge and experiences that have helped me act and work in a professional way. All the experiences I have had during the ten weeks of my student years have helped me in shaping me into a professional.
My experience in mental health clinical was very different from any other clinical I had before. In a mental health clinical setting, I am not only treating client’s mental illnesses, I am also treating their medical problems such as COPD, diabetes, chronic renal failure, etc. Therefore, it is important to prepare for the unexpected events. In this mental health clinical, I learned that the importance of checking on my clients and making sure that they are doing fine by performing a quick head-to toes assessment at the beginning of my shift. I had also learned that client’s mental health illness had a huge impact on their current medical illness.
I believe placing student nurses in the clinical setting is vital in becoming competent nurses. Every experience the student experiences during their placement has an educative nature therefore, it is important for the students to take some time to reflect on these experiences. A specific situation that stood out to me from my clinical experience was that; I didn’t realize I had ignored the patient’s pain until I was later asked by the nurse if the patient was in any pain.
This week’s clinical experience has been unlike any other. I went onto the unit knowing that I needed to be more independent and found myself to be both scared and intimidated. However, having the patients I did made my first mother baby clinical an exciting experience. I was able to create connections between what I saw on the unit and the theory we learned in lectures. In addition, I was able to see tricks other nurses on the unit have when providing care, and where others went wrong. Being aware of this enabled me to see the areas of mother baby nursing I understood and areas I need to further research to become a better nurse.
This reflective essay will discuss three skills that I have leant and developed during my placement. The three skills that I will be discussing in this essay are bed-bath, observing a corpse being prepared for mortuary and putting canulla and taking it out. These skills will be discussed in this essay using (Gibb’s, 1988) model. I have chosen to use Gibb’s model because I find this model easier to use and understand to guide me through my reflection process. Moreover, this model will be useful in breaking the new skills that I have developed into a way that I can understand. This model will also enable me to turn my experiences into knowledge that I can refer to in the future when facing same or similar situations. Gibbs model seems to be straightforward compared to the other model which is why I have also chosen it. To abide by the code of conduct of Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) names of the real patients in this essay have been changed to respect the confidentiality.
Senior Exhibition Personal Reflection Coming into ATC, I thought I wanted to take the practical nursing program, but I changed my mind because I did not want to go through all that stress and sleepless nights that people talked about. So I decided to take the dental assisting program and it was not what I expected at all. I thought dental assisting was going to be easy but it wasn’t. Even though I did not have homework, I had to study every night because every day there was a test.
the client’s past trauma and understanding how it effects their daily living without it being
Some improvements that I would like to see is not having a lot of down time, and saving some of the work for the students to do something when they arrive. At the Med, they should notice that the students are there and not act shocked as if they didn’t know that they were coming. At Baylor Scott and White, they should let us inside the rooms when the doctor is with his patients in the clinic, instead of just being in there when the RN goes in the room.
I had an amazing clinical instructor for medsurg 2. She was a great leader and was very passionate about her job. She took pride in what she did, and encouraged the students to feel the same way. The instructor told us it takes a special kind of person to be a nurse and that we should treat patients how we would want someone to treat our loved ones. Our final day of clinical, I got to experience what an amazing leader this women is.
Patient teaching is a big part of the nurse's role as it helps prevent further complications from arising and overall improving the patient's quality of life. It is our responsibility to fully educate our patients about their condition to guide them through the right direction. During clinical I got the opportunity to educate a 79-year-old patient with COPD on ways to improve his quality of life back at home. He already had all the complications that could arise from not managing COPD properly, so all we could do at this point was to teach him ways to manage his fatigue and shortness of breath.
