Why Should We Care about Climate Change?
Climate change is not only currently detrimental to our planet; it will also be detrimental to our health. In an article titled, Climate Change Challenges and Opportunities for Global Health, author Jonathon A Patz focuses on the correlation of climate change and world health, he believes that it is important for clinicians to better understand this phenomenon in order to educate their patients. Climate change is real and it is happening rapidly, it is important that people are educated and understand the toll this will take on human health worldwide. Greenhouse gas emissions have been exceeding rapidly over the last decade. This has caused the earth to warm up by 2 degrees every year. Temperature, precipitation, sea level rise, and ocean acidification are other factors that are slowly being altered do to climate change. Scientist predict that if humans destructive activity continues it will most likely be that in our lifetime we will see a drastic change in the environment that we live in today.

The present climate change is mostly human induced; the increase in CO2 is mainly because of human activities. Activities like changes in land use pattern, deforestation, land clearing, agriculture, and other activities that have all led to a rise in the emission of carbon dioxide.
While some scientists argue that the most prominent changes to our climate caused by our release of green house gases will be more significant in the future, it has been highlighted by others than some changes are occurring in this decade. Examples of this are glacial melt leading to rise in sea level, surface temperatures rising on big bodies of water like lakes and the sea and some even can link the release of green house gases to more violent storms and heavier rainy seasons.
Over the course of recent history, much concern has been raised over the industrial revolution and the potential climate changes that it might be causing. It has been stated by global warming theorist that C02 emissions caused by human technologies are causing the world to warm, which will cause negative climate changes. The Earth may be experiencing a global warming trend and climate change; however, the process of climate change is outside of human control because human activity can barely account for any of the C02 level increases. Attempts to reduce human C02 emissions is needlessly expensive, and will have a negligible role in preventing or slowing any climatic changes such as global warming or an impending ice age. People must be prepared to adapt to the climatic changes that occur, because it is unlikely that human intervention will postpone them or limit the impact of their arrival.
Most climate scientists agree that the main cause of global climate change is the human expansion of the greenhouse effect. This is the global warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space (climate.nasa.gov). The main gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and chlorofluorocarbons (climate.nasa.gov). My parents grew up in small town in Mexico. There was a little river that went through part of the town when they were growing up. Furthermore, many initiatives have been taken also by NGO’s,such as Greenpeace, supranational and intergovernmental mechanisms like E.U., as for example the adoption of the National Environment Strategy for the period till 2020, the National Action Plan for 2009-20012, the establishment of an emission trading system as an instrument that has to deal with the management of GHG emissions.
