Mrs. Leanne Kenny, the high school choir director, was a delight to observe. She has a humorous personality and a playful attitude. Her classroom has a very safe feeling when you walk into the room. This is her first year teaching at White County High School, and it is her first time having a college student observing her teaching. With that all being said, I feel like every time I entered her class, she was being her natural self and not pretending in any way. She was always honest, and I feel like I learned a lot more through her transparency. There was never a dull moment in the classroom. She would always joke around with her students, and she seemed like she a close connection with most of them. At some point, I feel like she may have gotten too friendly with them, and she may have lost some respect and authority in the classroom. The biggest problem in the classroom was the students arguing with her. She did not like any kind of talking back to her or comments that were just unnecessary. With one student, I felt like she could have given some type of punishment to her because the arguing became an every day thing. anything to really stop it. She overall interacted with the students in a very encouraging way. She was ready to answer any questions they had, and she tried her best to get the best sound out of them. I did not ever see her interact with any parents, but I was able to see her interact with some of the other teachers.
One of the teachers she worked with was Mr. Talton, the drama teacher. They have worked together outside of school with shows, and now they work together to do shows for the school. Mrs. Kenny teaches one of the fundamental drama classes with him. They are a dynamic duo. He came into the chorus classroom a few times, and they are always very professional. I also, so her interact with the library, and she knows how to ask the library for exactly what she is looking for. When she encountered any teacher; she was always polite and was able to joke around in some way. Everyone seemed to find her cheerful and a joy to work
with. I loved observing Mrs. Kenny. She treated me with so much respect, and she was so helpful through this entire process. She would always answer any questions I had, and she would give me helpful tips on teaching. Because she showed so much respect to me, her students also respected me. It took them a little bit longer to warm up to me than her, but they were also a joy. During her planning period, we would talk about school things and even just about what has been going on that week. I felt like a gained a new friend while observing. She was jewel to observe. I hope you can see that Mrs. Kenny is an amazing person. She loves to teacher, and she sees teaching as a way to bless the students and educate them. She also loves her students and colleagues. She sees this as a professional job, and she makes each day count. Her goal is to grow her students and herself in many ways through music. I would definitely recommend any students who want to become a music teacher to observe her.
During my first few weeks, I met a student named Joseph. He towered over me at 6-foot-4 and weighing 300 pounds. At first, I didn't know what to expect from him.I was surprised to learn he had failed the 9th grade twice and with this being his third try he was in the same grade as his younger brother, Jason. Joe and I became friends fast. I was treated differently because of my skin color but Joe did not judge me. Through students chit-chatter, I learned Joe was very popular and on the football team but had unexpectedly quit his first year. Joe struggled with his classes especially in English and Mathematics. One day in English, another kid was struggling to read a passage aloud, the classroom was filled with snickers and the teacher made the poor kid continue. After class, Joe comforted the kid and made him smile. That was his talent,, he had the ability to make people feel better.

She constantly had cool idea that someday I am probably going to end up using. For example, when she realized her students were struggling with math problems, she made up a cha cha dance of all the steps, had them start learning it with their feet and then had them pretend their pencils were their feet. They could all remember the steps after something as simple as a cha cha dance! Although creativity in a classroom does take a good chunk of time, once they see and understand, it will stick! Her creativity and ability to draw in students, I believe, is what made her the effective teacher that she was. Her students, at home, were getting nothing. Ms. Kelli Rollins was a beautiful person, inside and out. Being only about five foot four, slim build, and young looking with her big brown eyes and welcoming smile, it was hard to tell her apart from her students at just a glance. But her age and work appropriate wardrobe, that still managed to be totally fashionista perfect, helped her keep a manner of professionalism when working in the classroom. Doubling as a teacher as well as part of Paragould High School alumni also made her seem even more oddly fascinating since none of us ever wanted to come back after graduation. Or so we said.
Prior to my observation in Mrs. Reddout’s classroom this Fall, I thought that the children in my class would be a lot less creative and spunky than they actually are. It also surprised me just how in depth their emotions and feelings are for their age. I was definitely incorrect with my previous expectations, and I’m glad for it. When I learned that my cooperating teacher was the team leader for 8th grade, and the Teacher of the Year, I was really nervous; I didn’t think I’d measure up to her expectations of me. She has since told me otherwise, and that my fears were completely misplaced.

Along with finding my passion for theater, I also found one of my favorite teachers during my time in Junior High. His name was Mr. Rodrigue, and he was my homeroom and science teacher for both seventh and eighth grade. He was one of the first teachers that was every real with me. He was a very open and honest teacher who treated his students like adults. Mr. Rodrigue had this wit and sense of humor that made him more personable than any of my other teachers. I loved how he gave everyone in our homeroom nicknames, for instance, mine was “Higgy-Baby”. To this day I do not know how he came up with a name like that, but I know that while I was in his classroom, I was never called just Alyssa. While I learned many new and interesting things in his science class, I remember more of the life lessons that he taught during homeroom. The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.
The students that I observed in the classroom were of middle to high school. I went to see 8th, freshman, 10th , and seniors classes, they seemed excited and very curious to why I was there. The middle school was more alive and rambunctious while I observed them. The High school kids were more relaxed, more comical. Some were paying attention while others seemed tuned out to the lecture or involved in socialization with friends within the class. By the end of the class Mr. Hasgil had restored the attention of everyone by using tactics such as history jeopardy with candy as the prize with the high school kids. In both he middle school and high school the kids were mostly Caucasian with a mixture of black, Asian , and Hispanic in the classes.
