My school is Salk Elementary which is in Mesa Arizona. I am in Mrs. Sechez’s classroom which is a 5th grade classroom. I am a former student of the school and I attended 3rd to 6th grade at the school. I am familiar with the community because I am a former student and because I live in the area. Salk is a Title 1 school and fosters a community of diverse learners. There is a significant Hispanic population of students at the school which is about 44 percent. 80 percent of students get free or reduced lunch. As a former student, I was one of those who got lunch for free due to my economic situation. Economic wise, Salk is in an interesting position geographically. We have a smartboard in the classroom. The smartboard serves different purposes throughout the day. During math for example, we use a camera that projects what you are writing to the smart board. Whenever they are conducting some hard subjects in math, they have brain breaks which they will go to Go Noodle or watch Simon’s Cat videos. The whole school uses Moby Max which counts with their math grade. For assessments, Kahoot has been used. For one test, I made a kahoot and the next day, the students took it as their test. My focus area will be social studies and I have already began investigating technological resources I could use for my lessons. My lessons will strive to incorporate forms of technology such as Youtube and online “field trips” to locations. In Social studies, I will be covering the American Revolution and the 50 states and capitols. Youtube contains music that can be used for the lessons as an anticipatory set. We can also use the internet to view the battlefields of the American revolution and places of importance. If technology is not available, then any assignments that involves technology will involve the classroom. The students in my classroom have a book report due in February. The technology portion which is the PowerPoint, will be done in class so those students without access to technology at home can do their report at

The classroom 110, is the home away home for the second graders of Ps. 119. The classroom, is a small, but well-organized and illuminated space. It shelters a total of 37 students, two teachers, one co-teacher and any visitor doing field work observations, plus all the necessary technical equipment for teaching and learning.
I am extremely grateful to have taken an education class on the applications of technology in classrooms. Technology is a particular aspect of teaching that I am the least comfortable with because I am not as proficient as many of my peers. Even though I have taken the course, I still feel that I have a far way to go to gain the skill that teachers need in the classroom. In level III, it is my goal to incorporate more use of technology into my lessons (if possible) so that I will have more practice in a real classroom. As a teacher, I do not want to waste valuable class time trying to work a computer or smartboard. Although some teachers still use regular boards,most teachers use smart boards to teach. These boards are like ordinary boards except these are controlled by a remote control pen. By just clicking on the board questions can be written in a variety of ways and in any color you want. The final piece of tech that is mainly used in the classroom is a variety of websites that provide tests,quizzes,and assignments that students can access with a certain username and password. Using technology in academia brings the top resources to you which provide ultimate usage of academic time. “Schools can use digital resources in a variety of ways to support teaching and learning. Electronic grade books, digital portfolios, learning games, and real-time feedback on teacher and student performance, are a few ways that technology can be utilized to power learning” (“Use of Technology in Teaching and Learning” 1). Many schools in California and New York are paving the way in technology use in the classroom, and are actually basing a lot of their teachings on the use of technology. With our world becoming more technology savvy every day, it would be advantageous to move along with it.
In my classroom, I plan on using at least three different pieces of technology as differentiated instructional tools. My first tool is a smart board. Smart boards are a fantastic tool to use for differentiated instruction because it works with all different types of learning styles. A smart board uses visual, auditory, and tactile learning all in one because it has the ability to use text, pictures, video, sounds, and music all while students are able to physically interact with the smart board (Beeland, n.d.). My second tool of choice are videos, whether they are an educational program, movie clips, or instructional videos I create for my students.
In the past, technology was something that was only used in our homes and by the wealthy. However, this has become a thing of the past. Classrooms have become more interactive and lessons seem to be more engaging. Students have been given the opportunity to use Smart Boards, document cameras, projectors, and wireless slates. In order for our students to feel comfortable, when using the different technologies, they must have some amount of background knowledge. If a student is not given this background knowledge, they will have more difficulty utilizing the technology than someone who has the background knowledge. Teachers in classrooms today must also have some type of knowledge of the technology being used. A great way to build this knowledge is to attend training sessions that your district may be holding, and utilize the technology as much as possible.
Teachers observation means assessment of learning or gathering evidence of teachers practice. As a observer you would need to observe and reflect throughout the lesson. There are two types of observations, formal and informal. The observations are not mentioned. You would come in whenever, start observing the teacher and the learning environment, and take notes, you may have a checklist.
During my senior year at UMass Amherst, I was a teaching assistant (TA) for an integrated experience kinesiology course. In this position I was responsible for guiding groups of students in creating a wellness program. Each individual group was assigned a specific target population with a chronic disease to tailor their services to. At the end of the semester the students presented their project to professors and were graded on the accuracy of their research and design of their project. As a TA, I held a weekly discussion with the groups individually where I taught a lesson plan and supervised their meeting.
The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.
My observation period has been focused on elementary level education. The students have generally ranged between the ages of five and eight years old. Furthermore, the learning objectives have ranged from number identification and counting to the beginning stages of learning to read. Each morning started in the Subjects of Reading and Writing. This allowed for a gentle introduction into the days lessons.
I attended a second grade class at Smallville Elementary on February 22, 2014; the class began promptly at 0855. There are 26 children in this second grade class. There are 15 male students and 11 female students. The student diversity is 2 Hispanics, 1 African-American, 1 East Indian, and 1 New Zealander (White but with an extreme accent). Three children were left-handed.
The students that I observed in the classroom were of middle to high school. I went to see 8th, freshman, 10th , and seniors classes, they seemed excited and very curious to why I was there. The middle school was more alive and rambunctious while I observed them. The High school kids were more relaxed, more comical. Some were paying attention while others seemed tuned out to the lecture or involved in socialization with friends within the class. By the end of the class Mr. Hasgil had restored the attention of everyone by using tactics such as history jeopardy with candy as the prize with the high school kids. In both he middle school and high school the kids were mostly Caucasian with a mixture of black, Asian , and Hispanic in the classes.
For my observation experience I went to Southern High School in Harwood, MD. Southern High School has a special education department for the students with disabilities. The teacher that I met with for this classroom observation was Ms. West. In the classroom there were at least four assistant teachers that helped Ms. West throughout the school day. The assistant teachers helped Ms. West co- teach the class and were there to help the students if they needed extra help. The school also has a couple of student aides that come in to help the teachers and the students in the classroom. There were at least twelve students in the classroom. The students in the class had many different exceptionalities such as learning disabilities, Down syndrome,
students prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like laptops and tablets. Subjects that students deem challenging or boring can become more interesting with virtual lessons, through a video, or when using a tablet. Technology occupies an important place within students’ lives. When they are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected in some way to technology. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers are changing the way they used to teach (lectures six hours a day) and providing students with the tools that will take them into the 21st century. One of the characteristics of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. With classroom technology students can collaborate with other students and their teachers in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.
