Through American history, the people of America originated from Britain meaning their language also originated from Britain. From personal knowledge, the first modifications that were known to the English language started with Noah Merriam in the colonial era. He wrote the Webster dictionary and purposely altered some of the words in his dictionary to create a unique language for the “New Land”. He succeeds in changing several words, including the word “colour” to “color”. However, since America has come to life, many things have created a way to slowly kill and change the English language verbally and in written form. Based on knowledge, English has changed since the 1600s or even later than that. As observed, if a person from this generation were to read the Declaration of Independence or a book by Shakespeare, they would have a hard time understanding the English language. The reason for that is because the original English has evolved over long periods of time. In the books or documents from the older centuries, it uses words with different meanings and it also uses words that aren’t used in this generation such as thy, thee, and thou. English originated from Britain, which means that Americans created ways to change it up. Americans didn’t want to associate with Britain, so they wanted to create everything on their own, one being their language. For an example, when an American say “cookie” Britain says “biscuit” and when Americans say “french fries” Britain says “chips.” As shown American English has changed from the original English. One can tell that the language has changed based on the different words, Americans use to demonstrate something. Even though the background of the English language doesn’t correlate with texting and phones nowadays, it still affects the way our language works compared to other countries . Based on knowledge, throughout different generations English has been created to where it uses slang, emoji, acronyms, and contraction. People nowadays often use slang to describe an event or current situation. Slang is words that have been changed to fit a meaning. Words like cheddar, which means money, swag, which means cool, and noob, which means you are new to something have all been changed to fit a different meaning. Emoji’s are little pictures that describe how one is feeling. This has affected the English language because it demotes the value of actual emotions. Acronyms are letters that represent words. For example, the acronyms LOL, which means laugh out loud, GTG, which means got to go, and OMG means oh my god. Lastly, there 's contractions, which puts together two words with an apostrophe. Contractions can be shown with words such as “can’t, shouldn’t, couldn’t and etc.” As shown, texting and modern day words have created many ways of showing the simplification of words in the English
