The Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization (SFMPO) is developing a Teen Mobility Plan with the support of the Federal Transit Administration and the New Mexico Department of Transportation. In addition to temporary foster homes, Mujeres Latinas En Accion also provided counseling for runaways and their families which helped increase community awareness of the problem of runaway youth. MLEA also helped with Community Adjustment Referrals from the Department of Human Services, young people who have been picked up by the police and have received station adjustments, particularly with runaway girls.1 Other counseling service and classes became available for adults and youth. Mujeres Latinas En Accion tried expanding their education and counseling by providing their services in community schools, In one case, they were working with young girls in gangs who have had troubles in school. They also created parent support groups
within inner city communities. This paper focuses on the different activities offered to single parent families living inner city communities and the benefits and constraints that come along with these provided services.
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is one of the largest transit systems in the United States. It is the ninth largest system, transporting over 550,000 passengers daily. MARTA provides bus and rapid rail service to the most of the metropolitan area of Atlanta. The transit agency was established in 1971 with the passage of an authorizing referendum by voters in Fulton and DeKalb counties and the city of Atlanta. MARTA is a public authority that operates under Georgia law. The agency is governed by a board of directors with representation from several counties including Fulton, DeKalb, Clayton, and Gwinnett as well as the city of Atlanta. MARTA has approximately 4,500 employees. The majority of MARTA's operating revenues come from fares and a sales tax from customers.

Politics in organizations, then, is design for groups to reconcile differences between interests, conflicts, and power (Morgan, 2006). The case study to be analyze (Cutting Back at City Hall) is one that illustrates all three aspects of interests, conflicts, and power as the City of Smithville, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the International Association of Firefighters (IAF), and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) deliberate the city’s proposed budget.
While learning English at an institute in Austin, the school proposed a field trip to San Antonio to visit the Mission San Jose and go to the River Walk. Although I had no idea what the missions were, thought it would be an interesting experience. As soon as we arrived to the mission, I realized San Antonio, Texas had such a rich and relevant history, and that I was located in a place that numerous of important historical events had happen on. They gave us a tour of the special museum and explained to us what the tools displayed on the museum were used for, and later on, took us to the church and walked us though the entire property. Throughout my life, I am able to recall numerous experiences which “stand out” in my mind as being meaningful. However, one experience emerges above all others; the anticipation and excitement of being selected as a member of the Arizona Students Against Destructive Decisions Student Leadership Council in June 2006. At that time, the more commonly known name of the organization was Students Against Driving Drunk which has grown to become the nation’s dominant peer-to-peer youth education and prevention organization with thousands of chapters in middle schools, high schools and colleges across the country.
NEW DIRECTIONS IN PLANNING THEORY By Susan S. Fainstein. 1.0 INTRODUCTION Generally, this chapter discusses the examination of three planning theory approaches: the communicative model, the new urbanism and just city. Each approach has different planning applicable as well as its strengths and weaknesses. The communicative model is an approach which highlighted the role of town planners as a medium to negotiate and persuade stakeholders regarding planning matters.
The mission of StandUp for Kids is “to empower teenagers toward lifelong personal growth through on the streets outreach programs.” This mission statement is clear and concise. It guides the actions of StandUp for Kids, spells out their overall goal and provides a path. StandUp for Kids strives to gain the trust of homeless youth in order to achieve its mission statement (StandUp For, 2014). This trust is sought out through programs such as street outreach where volunteers search for homeless youth who are in need of help. The homeless youth are then introduced to outreach centers where they are provided with food, basic supplies, counseling, educational assistance, independent living skills training and referral services for available programs throughout the community (StandUp For, 2014).
Fieldwork was conducted primarily at the CSP Youth Shelter in Laguna Beach, California. Additionally, fieldwork was conducted while accompanying shelter residents on outings to parks, recreation centers, community workshops, and similar events.
The reason for this program is to use innovative approaches in developing programs, which will teach youth alternatives to violence, substance abuse, anger issues, low self-esteem, and the consequences as a result of making bad choices. During, the program non-violence, team building, leadership development and communication skills is promoted. A neutral and positive setting is provided for young people, so they are able to come together from different gangs throughout the city to work on their issues and programs together. When a youth is referred to the program they have an Intake-Assessment with the family. “Together, a Program Contract/Service Plan will be developed based on the individual needs of the youth/family. If the youth is on probation/parole all requirements of the courts will be incorporated into their contract. Services offered are case management, mediation, innovative focus groups, presentations, collaboration with other youth service organizations, and attendance at court hearings” (Stop ABQ Gangs,
...cts are unknown. Preliminary data indicates the Youth Advisory Council model, one example of the community problem-solving approach, may be a promising avenue for engaging young people. Additional longitudinal research in coming years will be crucial in developing more definitive conclusions. Anecdotally, many students find great value in the program, indicating it develops leadership skills and provides motivation for further community participation. The participants are not the only beneficiaries, however. Through thorough planning and thoughtful implementation, the sponsoring agency and broader community gain significantly from such a process. Involving young people in addressing community problems at the local level can infuse new life into agencies and communities, while helping to prepare young people to become active, engaged citizens in our democracy.
These youths need a way to escape this circle of poverty. To overcome the social limitations placed on this community of people it is crucial that they are offered every tool that can help them succeed. This...
