Instead of eating chips, Julia should eat fruits or vegetables as a snack. Julia presented high amounts of sodium, from the intake of frozen foods. As a result, Julia should cook with less salt, and try to adjust her eating habits by cooking healthy foods. Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.

This type of diabetes has a lot to do with obesity. Lila eating high volumes of processed foods isn’t the best meal choices. “The prevalence of diabetes in the U.S. continues to rise by epidemic proportions. This increase parallels the rising rates of obesity and overweight observed over the past decade (1,2). Indeed, as BMI increases, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases in a “dose-dependent” manner (3,4). “ (Klein, Sheard, Pi-Sunyer, Daly, Wylie-Rosett, Kulkarni & Clark, 2004) After developing and managing a healthier meal plan; Lila needs to become physically active. Due to her inactive status she is developing peripheral neuropathy in addition to her diabetes status. Lila could start with speaking with her primary care physician about what activities she could do to become physically active along with taking her medication as directed and following a healthy meal plan. This could lead to weight loss for Lila along with building confidence in herself to get her health back on track, feel healthy and also feel beautiful. Lila changes could lead to positive support and comments from family and friends. “Weight loss is an important goal for overweight or obese persons, particularly those with type 2 diabetes, because it improves glycemic control (21). Within the three days in which I have been tracking my diet, there have been two main factors that recently altered my diet substantially. The first factor is a new Medicine which I have been prescribed for Adhd, Strattera; Strattera’s most common side-effect is the inhibition of appetite and hunger. In the past week that I have been taking Strattera I have not experienced any hunger whatsoever. The other factor which may have contributed to glaring deficiencies, is the fact that my refrigerator broke down a few days before I began tracking my diet, this made it harder to eat as much produce as I usually eat. Together these two factors may have skewed my diet, for the worse.
