I have gotten a better understanding of ethical, moral, and legal problems faced by many businesses’, after reading Chapter 2 Understanding Ethical and Legal Considerations of the text Technical Communication (9th ed.) by Mike Markel,.

Denise McNeil finds herself fronting ethical and moral issues that could turn into legal problems for her business, if not handled carefully and correctly. Mike Markel indicates that “organizations leaders can set the right tone by living up to their commitment to ethical conduct”, this forms the crooks of Denise’s problems, when it comes to the concerns she has about Crescent Energy.

It is advisable that Denise should consider the following codes of conduct, when

* Protection of her company’s intellectual property.

Denise should also take into consideration some of her anxieties associated with working with someone from a different culture, and whether that culture’s beliefs will clash with her own. Under the principal ‘moral minimum’ created by ethicist Thomas Donaldson and mentioned in Technical Communication “companies are ethically obligated not to reinforce patterns of discrimination” which leaves the decision to discriminate against her employees completely in Denise’s hands.

Denise McNeil should take into consideration the copyright laws Denise has to consider whether or not to change her lead engineer’s name. While Mark Steinberg’s work for McNeil Informatics may belong legally to the company through the concept known as work made for hire that may not be enough to save his work from being copied by another company if his name is changed. Further research into copyright law would be required to be sure.

* After having completing her research Denise should begin her
