Building on your career and or searching for a career takes time, it takes patience and it also takes a lot of preparation. Career development is about a process that you take throughout life to get you to the future you aspire for (Career Management, 2013). Knowing how to prepare and the steps to take plays a big part in finding a job that is the right fit for you. It starts with having the right tools and creating a career plan to help you achieve the job you aspire. Taking the time to do a thorough job search, building a resume, and practicing at interviewing will assist you in obtaining a position that will develop into the career that you desire.

After answering these questions, this will provide you with more information to better prepare and explore careers that meet your needs. You should also consider your values, interests, skills, goals and experiences when going through the job search process, as this will help you to identify careers and industries to explore.
After performing these steps, I then utilized the “Indeed Job Search” through the CSU-Global Career Center. This was a great resource as it allowed me to do searches for operational management positions and drill down on my search by salary estimate and distance, which are both important factors t me. This was very helpful to target specific companies such as Charles Schwab to see all available management positions (see Figure 1) for my search results for potential employment opportunities.

I had started a resume from this site, about a year ago and had it reviewed. However, I went back through and looked at the various categories and updated based on what I have learned over the past year and ensuring that my resume stood out from others. I learned that the look and feel of your resume can be matched to the style of the company and by utilizing some of the other resources available on this site, such as looking at the resume tips and action verb tool list I was able to enhance my resume. I was able to add in key words which increase the chance of my resume to be selected via the key word search/electronic system. I was able to add in some additional information pertaining to experience, history, and accomplishments, as these sections can be the most important section on your resume (CSU- Global, 2017). In addition, the resume builder was very informative and provided various formats to review and sample sections to include on my resume. I found the resume builder very helpful and felt I made some good changes on my resume based off the information I read on the site or from the examples I reviewed. In addition, I learned what aspects should be listed on your cover letter, which would also help me stand out as a stronger

Choosing a career path that is right for you can be the most crucial decisions you make in your life. When choosing a career it is valuable to consider things such as growth potential, monetary benefits, strengths, weaknesses, and your happiness. That being said, making such a weighted decision that will impact the rest of your life can be nerve-racking, extremely scary, stressful, and outright frustrating. Taking the time to reflect on one’s career can increase self-awareness and enhance professional development. A career development plan is a confidential and integral document created by an individual which outlines the activities undertaken during their life. Hence, a professional development plan documents goals and skills required to accomplish dreams and aspirations. Moreover, a professional development program is reminiscent of ones’ past experiences and a glance at the future. Having a professional development plan in place is critical for graduate study to keep track of one’s progression. The principal purpose of a developmental plan is to give a description of my educational and professional background as well to explore my personal goals as it relates to my profession growth and development.
It is simple to look at an individual’s life and analyze and critique their choices based on our own opinions and experiences. Is that fair? No. We may see their actions clearly but the reasoning behind these is what we should focus on when it comes to judging someone’s behavior or circumstances. A common judgment made about a person is based on their career. In our society, it would behoove us to look at the path that leads to becoming a doctor instead of a drug dealer.

I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.
My ultimate value is my family. My vision for my own self is to live happily with my family in the future. I love to spend my spare time with them. Hanging around with friends and family make me feel well. I love to play on computer. I also love to play with the magical numbers. I like surfing on the internet, exploring new things, reading articles related with health, life, and economic events such as the stock market, financial companies, investment corporations, etc. I think being a citizen of a country, we should somewhat at different aspects of life to better know how well or bad the economy of our country is experiencing. My goal is to become a businessperson. I believe doing business is an important way to improve the economy of a nation. I did a research on two different careers. However, they are sort of having a relation with each other. Both of them are in the business field – accounting and financial analyzing.

A five year plan is ideal to start with, as five years are enough to reach bigger goals while working for and achieving smaller goals.

HRM however does not know in depth what the manger is looking for, nor who would be the best fit in the department so they are unable to make the hiring decisions on their own. (Fallon Jr., & McConnell, 2007). HRM should then send the list of resumes to department managers for interview.

Career management plays important role in career development. Career management is done with involved taking some necessary steps to reach the career plan and commonly more focusing on the ability of the organization able to do for their employee to increase their career development (Werner & DeSimone, 2009). Career plan is usually able to be performed, at least in some apart, through the training program which implemented by the organization. Career management process contained four steps which are self-assessment, reality check, goal setting and action planning (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1).

Careers are not something to be taken in a light manner as it acts as a major function in every being’s life. Career dysfunctional may results in decreased self confidence, increased interpersonal communication problems or traces of depression. According to Beverly Baskin, the term career can be defined as the the totality of work one does in one’s lifetime. Given this definition, education, family responsibilities, work and leisure activities are inclusive.
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
