Martin Pointer 31 March 2017 HA499 Bachelors Capstone in Healthcare Administration Unit #9 Introduction. The analysis developed, studied, and recorded in this document will cover the various operating procedures, business practices, and reasoning methods that impact and influence how ST Jude Children’s Hospital provides healthcare treatment and medical attention. It will attempt to provide a clear and concise message about the three sections pertaining to this project. ST Jude is a pediatric treatment and research facility that has a focus on children with catastrophic disease. It was founded in 1962 by Danny Thomas who was an entertainer. To be specific, the hospital first opened on 4 February 1962. This is an interesting …show more content…
Now the reasoning behind the selection of St Jude Children’s Hospital is different. I selected this organization because I wanted to research and document the many different ways that this facility works to develop a cure, or medical resolution in order to provide healthcare relief to the children of today’s generation and the generations to come. It is always inspiring to see, in general, how intense researching and developing healthcare treatments for patients really is. However when working with patients that are no more than a decade old to exhaust efforts in providing them a quality of life that will sustain them, it becomes more personal and …show more content…
A group of women went into their neighborhood to build relationships with the community in 1650, gain an accurate perception of their needs, and identify problem solving techniques. These women were the Sisters of St. Joseph, who were the founders and leaders of St. Joseph Health and its ministries. That passion and tradition has continued to flourish and develop for over four centuries. Each year, St. Jude Medical Center invests time and resources into local communities to increase access to healthcare for vulnerable populations and provide local residents with the support they need to make their neighborhoods healthier and safer. One thing to note about the hospital is the investment of over $56 million in community benefits in fiscal year 2015. Reference(s): www.stjude.org https://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT02530658 (2016). This paper will propose the major steps that Caring Angel Hospital (CAH) could take to achieve each of the following goals: Improve the quality of care, add value to the organization, improve employee morale, design an efficient organizational chart, create a strong team environment and create the hospital’s competitive edge. It will also recommend one approach that the hospital could use for acquiring a larger market share given the prevailing financial circumstances. It will investigate two value-added services that CAH could offer to strengthen its value proposition and examples of the advantages of those services.
“Hospitals today are growing into mighty edifices in brick, stone, glass and marble. Many of them maintain large staffs, they use the best equipment that science can devise, they utilize the most modern methods in devoting themselves to the noblest purpose of man, that of helping’s one’s stricken brother. But they do all this on a business basis, submitting invoices for services rendered.”
The government controls and regulates healthcare somewhat because healthcare organizations are in a position to take advantage of the elderly and sick so there are regulations that protects them. It seems as though healthcare facilities are being paid less for their services today. Some critical measures for the survival of a healthcare organization are to optimize performance and quality. Finding system-wide efficiencies and cost reduction healthcare will help. In order to get better and keep high quality and performance while still raising reimbursements, it is necessary and important to involve doctors with the ideas and plans for any management strategies.

When it comes to educating children and parents about their child’s surgery or illness, it is important to remember the child’s age. A child and parent do not understand the same terms. For example, when referring to a stretcher a child may think it will stretch them out, a child life specialist may refer to a stretcher as a bed on wheels for children who may not understand this term. There are many child life specialists who go through every detail in an office with
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has a highly unique approach to patient care. Consulting for the Caring Angel Hospital Working in the health care industry takes a lot of courage and patience in order to deal with different individual’s personalities and to be equipped to handle stressful situations according to the issues at hand. As a senior consultant at the Practical Health Care Consulting firm, my supervisor has instructed me to spend three months at the Caring Angel Hospital. While at the hospital there are a few tasks for improving the quality of care, adding value to the organization, improving employee morale, etc. Although these obstacles will be a challenge, there is an opportunity for improvement. This will allow the Caring Angel Hospital to increase revenue and accomplish the goals that are established.
...en who are there each week are incredibly inspirational, and they never seem to be discouraged, even though some of the patients have been there for five to six weeks in a row. I look forward to seeing their smiling faces each time I visit, yet I cannot help but hope they will not be there but will be at home the next time I visit. The children and youth I have met at Children’s Hospital have become dear friends, and they have taught me that leadership involves making the most of the talents we each have been given, and seeking excellece, not perfection.
This clinical experience has been great. I go to clinical everyday with an open mind. I have learned a wealth of information from my preceptor at Grace Family Medical Practice. I continue to manage acute and chronic diseases with minimal to moderate preceptor coaching. I am appreciating the little exposure that I have to pediatric care at Grace Family Medical Practice.
I selected my patient to be my capstone patient based on the findings during the dental appointment. These findings were found from the patient’s medical history, radiographs, ten page assessment, and periodontal charting. My patient’s ASA classification was a class I due to no medications except for mucinex. Mucinex can cause oral side effects that include xerostomia. The patient’s blood pressure was 140/90 mmHg at the first appointment, which is in the prehypertensive stage. Prehypertensive is a major concern due to the risk of becoming hypertensive and being prescribed a medication to help control the patient's blood pressure.
Golden Age Hospital (GAH) will seek to improve operating performance to increasing review of patient outcomes and satisfaction. The healthcare organization will thus base its operations on the core competences and functions to improve its financial outlook and service delivery. These core competencies include; designing and implementing patient-centered, economic value, the patient experience, safety, and clinically integrated models of care that optimize quality. Therefore, GAH, as parts of care systems, will have the capacity to integrate with healthcare providers as clinical and economic partners, to redesign and create the synergy for delivery systems.
With there being over 3 million nurses in the United States alone, my biggest goal is to be a major contributing force in the field. I want to wake up everyday ready to dedicate my time to making the largest impact on everyone’s life I give care for. I believe my abilities and passion will long term be best accompanied in Pediatric or Adult Gerontology Acute Care. Over the past 3 years, I have assisted in giving care for the kindest-hearted, 30-year-old Tina Porpiglia. Tina has grown up with Cerebral Palsy as result of unexplainable and unmanageable seizures as a toddler. Being a part time volunteer caregiver for Tina has been the most surreal learning experience for me as I strive towards my goal of becoming a nurse and guiding me to the longer
Life in itself is always filled with the ups and downs of health conditions. In real life, no one person can confidently state that they have all along never fallen sick or visited a healthcare center. For this reason, it is important to say that healthcare organizations are necessities that every human society lives with. In this paper, the healthcare organization that will be created is a general hospital that serves the larger public. The name of the hospital is Heavens Angels Hospital that will help the city of Evergreen Alabama with an estimated population of about 800,000 people.
Moreover from my understanding of the nature of medically underserved communities, in particular, from my small town upbringing to my travels in the United States and around the world, support my medical education in those communities and will assist me significantly in my career. I have much to learn about family and community medicine and believe that my present skills will fit well into a residency program committed to advocating for patients as well as treating their maladies. I look forward to expanding my knowledge and skill base in a collaborative atmosphere dedicated to improving our patient’s health, lives, and
This was an existential experience that brought joy to children’s lives while receiving chemotherapy, as well as gave the parents some free time. Even though this experience greatly benefits the children fighting cancer, their sibling and parents, I can safely say that the children I met at Sunrise Day Camp and Long Island Jewish Cohens Children’s Hospital inspired me and continue to be my role models. In addition, through my experience volunteering for three years with Sunrise Association, I realized that I am benevolent and sensitive toward children and adolescents who are given a life that they do not deserve. I know that the characteristics I possess have confirmed that I am capable of fulfilling my dream and goals in the future. These many experiences opened my eyes to a whole new perspective on life and ignited my interest in the field of
