When doing my California project, I learned multiple lessons. I will list a way to avoid having my parents yell at me. My first lesson is read the instructions carefully. My second lesson is to tell my parents to print or that something is due ahead of time. My third lesson is to do my projects daily (after school) and not wait for the last second. My first lesson and most important is read the instructions carefully. It is the mistake that messed up my whole project. I did not see that a model (drawing or building) was necessary. I did not start the model until the day that it was due. I thought I knew all the report requirements and just quickly read through. I understand and will now read instructions more carefully.
My second lesson is to tell my parents to print or that something is due ahead of time. As I said earlier, I waited for the last second to print and to make my model. If I didn’t wait and worked on my model with dad on a regular basis, I would have been well done with this now. Also, I was done on Thursday with the informational part of my project so I could have printed it on Friday. A way I can avoid this is by telling mom on Thursday to prepare to print on Thursday or the rest of the week. My third lesson is to work on my projects daily (after school) and not wait for the last second. For example, I waited for the last second to ask my parents to print my CA report and mom had to bring it in at 2:30. I also waited for the last second, actually the last second to make a model about Mission San Juan Bautista. A way to avoid my parents screaming their heads off is to work on the model on a regular basis. I will put “Working on CA report” on my calendar. As you can see, I have learned many lessons while doing this report and hope to improve these mistakes.
In my Teaching Professions with Field Experience class, we were to create two lesson plans throughout the semester; one that involved the use of technology and the other without. The rules that went along with the lesson plans were as follows: the speaker is supposed to act out the lesson that they have prepared and their classmates were supposed to act accordingly to what grade level the lesson pertained to. Lastly, during the presentations, the students were to write three good qualities the speaker or the presentation had. In addition, they had to write one wish which was something a student thinks would make the lesson better. For the first project lesson I constructed, I incorporated the use of technology to discuss the identification and use of monochromatic colors for the sixth grade level.
With wonderful learning opportunities, a team of sharp and intelligent classmates and teachers, and specialized equipment, the Governor’s School at Innovation Park is the ultimate dream of all determined math/science devotees. With my natural curiosity for mathematics and science and eagerness to take on challenging ideas, I can collaborate with the team at Governor’s School to develop our wide spectrum of ideas and abilities into a highly sophisticated product.
Mission San Juan Capistrano, historic landmark and museum, is the Birthplace of Orange County. It was founded more than two hundred years ago as the 7th of 21 missions in California and features a chapel still standing where Saint Serra once celebrated Mass. Today, it is a monument to California’s multi-cultural history, embracing its Native American, Spanish, Mexican and European heritage. Originally built as a self sufficient community by Spanish Padres and Native Americans, the Mission was a center for agriculture, industry, education and religion. Famous for the Return of the Swallows, Mission San Juan Capistrano’s nickname is the “Jewel of the California Missions” and welcomes over 300,000 visitors each year.
At the Miss California, USA seminar we were directed in how to apply makeup the correct way for stage lighting and also we had a number of evening gowns modeled so that we could know what is acceptable. We also had numerous swimsuits modeled for us by other delegates who I will be competing with. The person in charge of the USA pageant organization is Carolee Munger from San Luis Obispo, CA. She taught us how to present ourselves in the presence of our judges and also how to reach for our highest goals. The seminar was eight and a half hours long. It included learning, speaking skills, self confidence, and personal rights as an individual. We also had the privilege of listening to a well known psychologist speak to us about pageantry and how important it is know yourself and the goals you would like to achieve in life. Questions such as, "Where do you see yourself in five years?" have definitely given a new thought to what I would like to do for the rest of my life. I learned how to act self confident even in situations where you don't feel comfortable. I also learned that knowing how to make a grand entrance instead of a grand exit will give you a special presence.
From reading the author’s book “Ecology of Fear,” Mike Davis’ main thesis for writing this book was to make readers become aware of the underlying problems and threats which have existed or currently exist in Southern California and how these problems shape the way we live today and in the imminent future as well. Although Davis did not really provide us with any remedies for the problems facing Southern California, this book made it very clear to the readers that problems do still exist, although at times they may sound subtle in nature. Of the numerous problems which do exist in Southern California, I will discuss only a handful of the problems that Davis provided us insight to. In the following paragraphs, the main problems of Southern California that I will discuss about are suburbanization and how it made Southern California lose its natural beauty and the effects of overdevelopment, the wild fires which occur and similarities and differences the rich and poor communities faced in terms of adversity, how suburbanization brought people closer to the wildlife, and how numerous books and movies portrayed Los Angeles as the center for calamities. The culmination of all these problems clearly shows that there are many glaring weaknesses of Southern California that need to be closely examined.
In COL 101 I have learned many new things about college. Since this is my first semester at college I did not really know where everything was. This class really helped me to learn new things about myself, including what resources are available to me, what my plan for the future is, and the many changes I have endured during this course.
Why does Lindblom describe business as having a “privileged” position in policymaking? Does this privilege vary across different capitalist economies? Why or why not?
Walking out the door and find you there, still haven’t done your hair. Pull yourself together you tell yourself, it’s all the weather. Break your surroundings before you try, I swear you try. California can’t solve you, I can’t solve you. I’m a piece of you that could fall off, at any point.
The liberal arts are becoming increasingly rare in schools and universities. However, Saint Catherine University makes it a priority to teach its students the core benefits to the liberal arts college. It requires students to take the course “The Reflective Woman” along with “Global Search for Justice” as an introduction and conclusion to a liberal arts education. Throughout this semester I became more knowledgeable on what the liberal arts truly are, honed my reflective judgment, developed my writing skills, and I now have a deeper and defined sense of self.
California is one of the major states that contains a vast population of people in the United States. It is known to contain big cities, celebrities, and movies. In fact, it is also a state that contains thousands of people living in poverty. I conducted an analysis on Santa Cruz county cities Santa Cruz and Watsonville. In my findings, I saw that Santa Cruz is considered to be the wealthy city, whereas Watsonville is the poorest within the county.
Lack of proper clean air standards results in spending on medical care which pushes it above the average compared to other states. Public insurers spent the highest and it is envisaged that this may push the medical insurance high making it hard to access healthcare.
Mesa Community College is a big community, and a perfect site to implement any service learning because the choices are numerous. I have been part of this Community College for the last two years, and I felt that I could do something for it, but I was not sure what. It had to be a study and service related with students and technology. At the time of the decision, I was reading a book about how technology and personal devices are leading in the lack of conversation, and is also interfering in interpersonal relationships in society, specially in young people. I was observing students at campus, and classmates at classrooms, and it was true, people go and back through the campus and classrooms as robots, without look at each other, or even saying anything. I thought that a Conversation Club would be a good idea for having students talking with their peers for one hour, being aside of devices. Then I thought that it would be a good idea having the Conversation in Spanish, since Spanish is my mother tongue. This would provide not only conversation to students, also the opportunity of improving their skill in Spanish, and the opportunity of meeting other people from different countries and different cultures around the world. Mesa Community College has a multicultural community, with students from all around the world, and this club would take the opportunity to bring different
The Last Days of California is a coming of age novel about a family on a road trip to California so they can be the last ones to be raptured before the apocalypse. It’s a cool idea for a story, and Mary Miller makes it seem like a plausible thing the characters to do. However, the novel falls short trying to juggle the characters and their intentions, as well as oddly pacing the novel over four days.
...n my way. Another important skill I learnt was how to prioritize my work. This project was my first long-term project, and went into the course of the school year. U learnt to make a list of all the tasks and accomplish what was the most important first. As the due date came closer, I had a large work-load, and therefore I had to prioritize a plan out when I will start my repot and so on.
Writing a reflection and a summary of dozens of experiences is very challenging and demanding. I cannot count how many ups I had, yet I cannot deny the fact that I had some downs where I could transform them to ups. The year was full of challenges, excitement, fear and lessons. Each Wednesday I had mixed emotions. Every time I came to school I had the same fear and heartbreaks. In my reflection I am willing to compare between Adan at the beginning of the year and new Adan I became.
