Reflection on the Missouri Teacher Standards, Standard 3

An educator must have the ability to notice the value of extending planning and subject matter. In addition, educators need to be flexible enough to change the curriculum based upon state standards and the student’s ability to absorb information. In my Teaching Professions with Field Experience class, we were to create two lesson plans throughout the semester; one that involved the use of technology and the other without. The rules that went along with the lesson plans were as follows: the speaker is supposed to act out the lesson that they have prepared and their classmates were supposed to act accordingly to what grade level the lesson pertained to. Lastly, during the presentations, the students were to write three good qualities the speaker or the presentation had. In addition, they had to write one wish which was something a student thinks would make the lesson better. For the first project lesson I constructed, I incorporated the use of technology to discuss the identification and use of monochromatic colors for the sixth grade level. Before I started my lesson, I made sure that all of my materials were placed where I needed them; at the front desk. The materials I brought were a PowerPoint presentation, a few color swatches, project paper, pencils, and crayons. When I began, I greeted everyone and gave them an insight to what was being taught that day. To start, I showed a PowerPoint presentation that discussed the terms Monochromatic colors and Value. The PowerPoint wasn't very long; however, as an example I showed the class various color swatches that I received from Lowes. Color swatches were the perfect example to show because they show different values of a particular color; blue, yellow, pink, and so on. This way I can clearly communicate my lesson more thoroughly to the intended class. Next, the media I chose wasn't very effective. Due to the time and the place, I may choose to use colored pencils or markers instead. This will allow the students to create cleaner, more vibrantly colored lines. For this lesson I still need to learn how to analyze instructional goals and differentiated instructional strategies. When I transfer to a university to further my education; in my educational classes I will learn about this. In addition to student teaching, I will be learning how to handle future situations with the appropriate grade level. Lastly, I will ask for advice from art teachers and teachers in general to find out more information on differentiated instructional strategies.
