My S.M.A.R.T. Goal for the Spring 2013 semester CHC 099 class was to get into the habit of spending more time studying, which would help to get an A in my calculus class. The reason I chose a goal related to academics was because I will be transferring soon and wanted to maintain my high GPA as well as gain better study skills as I go on to the university. I planned my program from February 20th through May 20th, giving me 4 months to accomplish my goal.

I earned an A in my first calculus class, so I felt that an A in my second class was realistic. As previously stated, my goal was given a time frame making it timely. The first step I made for my goal was to research ways to organize time. I planned to complete this step by February 20. This step required that I look at methods that had been discussed in class and other possibilities online. Though, I did not need it, if I required any more guidance for this part of my goal I could have asked Mr. Brown or Mr. Rivera for help. The obstacles that I faced in completing the first step were procrastination and work. After doing some research I found a couple of options that I thought would work for me, so I went to the movies and saw Die Hard 5 as my reward. I chose to make my second step choosing a method that would work best for me to organize my time. Since this step really only required that I make a decision it did not take long to complete, therefore obstacles were not really a problem. Also, I did not see any benefit from outside resources because it was a decision based on my preference. I wanted to have this task done by February 25. My third step was to start putting aside time to study the content of my courses. This included reading the text, doing practice problems, and doing the homework. This step would take place gradually as my new routine became more habitual. By putting these tasks on my checklist, I was consistently reminded to follow through with them. I wanted this step to be part of my routine by March 10 and for it to continue for the rest of the semester and hopefully the rest of my schooling. The obstacles I faced once again with this step were work, procrastination, and other distractions. Once I had completed this step and began to study more for my classes I decided to reward myself with watching a season of a new show. My friend had recently introduced me to the game of thrones, and I instantly became hooked. I had the feeling that my calculus class would be the most difficult one of the semester.
So, my final goal was to implement my new routine into my calculus schedule in hopes that it would help me earn an A in the class. The final date to complete this step will be the day of the final on May 20. As of right now I have about a ninety-three percent in the class so it is
The goals and objectives that we plan to set will be measurable and obtainable. I would like for the goals and objectives to be measurable so in the evaluation phase I can evaluate Marcels progress and to see if the goals that we have set are being reached.
Finally, I learned how to be more responsible by myself. In my last classes, my teachers were technically always there to tell me step by step what to do and how to do my assignments. In a certain way, it made me kind of lazy and entirely dependent of my teachers. However in this course it was not like that; instead, my instructor just gave me the assignments, instructions, and deadlines, and I must write my essays and summited it on time. This absence of guide absolutely made me to react that it was time to me to do my assignments by myself, demonstrate what I know, and ask for help just whenever it is

Goals such as getting a high GPA or even to pass a certain class correlates to being able to learn in school. When my Freshman year came around my goal was to do well in school; I began educating myself in and outside of school. Settings goals had me acquire knowledge and that is one of my experience of education.
One goal is I want to see what I am capable of. I have a terrible habit where I doubt myself, and that doubt sometimes leads me missing out on life changing opportunities. There’s a saying that goes, “Doubt kills more dreams than future ever will” which really emphasizes how doubt is what makes us runs away from our hopes, goals, and dreams. It is something that makes us terribly afraid to try something new or make an effort with things. However, I truly want to not run away from that doubt, but to be able to overcome it. Even though I may be doubtful at times, I am full of determination to pursue excellence and strive to do my best in everything. For example, I want to see how great I can make my education be in high school. I have a strong connection and commitment when it comes to learning because it’s always a joy and experience when it comes to knowing new things. I believe that knowledge is one great element in life where it leads to the highest success, and it can only be acquired one way through diligence and effort. When it comes to my education, I make sure to not take it for granted and to never give up, even if it may feel brutal at times. In my opinion, I care what I learn and put towards my education rather than the grade given since with all the effort and work I put towards to what I am told, the grade follows. However, that does not mean that I am careless about my grades. Over the course of my eighteen years, I have learned the importance of goal setting, despite if I may have decided to alter a few of them. I have a 95 average in my Philosophy Honors Class, his class consists of no tests but you have do critiques and I received mostly all check pluses and I have a 100 average in Criminal Justice 225. In French 177, I received an A- on my presentation her class has no test but you do need to participate and if you don’t like a grade you can redo the assignment over and get a better grade at the end. By using the S.M.A.R.T. goal system, you are able to make your dreams a reality, one small step at a time. The first step in reaching a long-term goal is to understand the S.M.A.R.T. the goal process. Simply using the words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound can be a bit confusing. After a bit of research, I was able to better define the method. Using a S.M.A.R.T. Goal worksheet provided by Tatt (2012).
A challenge I was facing in first semester was completing my assignments on time. This was a challenge for me because I always tried to complete the homework at the last minute, like assigned chapters we had to read from the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, and I wouldn’t make enough time to complete the work. This was a challenge for me because I don’t normally read in my free time. Another confrontation I had was completing final drafts on the computer. I had trouble finishing these assignments also because I wouldn’t make enough time for the work, like the final draft we had to complete from the novel To Kill A Mockingbird.
Instead of doing practice problems like I did in math, I would outline and re-organize my notes to internalize historical concepts and how events intertwined with themselves and their contexts. I had to consciously take steps back from the material to grasp the overarching themes that were central to the course, which I rarely had to do in math and science. I figured that consistent, paced out work was the best way avoid overwhelming myself, and as I planned my outlining throughout the week, my time management skills increased to the point that I felt strange not maximizing my waking hours. The time consuming nature of the class convinced me that I couldn’t afford to waste a single minute, and while this has drastically improved my time management skills, it has also convinced me that I am motivated and skilled enough to conquer any of the challenges to come. (Fowler, 2004) With that thought in mind I have set my first educational goal as a long term goal to earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree. This will open up my ability to strive for a career in my field of passion of computers. To overcome the issue of time management I have dedicated my self to using my Yahoo calendar and the calendar in Outlook Express more in-depth and more up to date than in the past. I will print out these calendars and post them on my bulletin board in my home office where I can reference and utilize them properly. My second educational goal is to complete every course for the University of Phoenix BSIT requirements with the best possible score for each class. I have the same issue of time management in relation to this goal. For this problem I have decided to create a semester (course) calendar with co-curricular activities so I can concentrate on completing my requirements for each course without being distracted with personal scheduling conflicts. My third and final educational goal is to complete the requirements for earning a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). This is considered one of my long, long range goals. The only issue related to this goal is that I don't know what is required for this certification. I'm sure with obtaining the requirements from a web source I can overcome this goal with no problem.
I choose these goals for my students based on what I thought/ what my mentor teacher thought in regards to his needs. My student’s biggest need is in the area of fluency, my student is struggling when it comes to reading. While progress monitoring, I choose to have my student work on phoneme segmenting at almost 1st grade level. I would read him a word, and then he would need to sound it out phonetically. He did very well with those assessments, therefore my student doesn’t have an issue when he hears the words. I wish I had progress monitored him on word fluency instead. I would have been able to see where he was with that, instead of having to see his official assessment scores.
Throughout this semester, I have done everything that was asking. Every assignment was completed and turned in on time. I did not just complete my assignments to get them over with, I invested time and effort into writing each piece with compassion and dedication.
