Methods and strategies of teaching reading comprehension
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
I choose these goals for my students based on what I thought/ what my mentor teacher thought in regards to his needs. My student’s biggest need is in the area of fluency, my student is struggling when it comes to reading. While progress monitoring, I choose to have my student work on phoneme segmenting at almost 1st grade level. I would read him a word, and then he would need to sound it out phonetically. He did very well with those assessments, therefore my student doesn’t have an issue when he hears the words. I wish I had progress monitored him on word fluency instead. I would have been able to see where he was with that, instead of having to see his official assessment scores. My first IEP goal would be a fluency goal. My student is in
Therefore, creating goals helps establish what direction I am trying to go in, and also allows me to figure out how to solve a problem. Another example is if I fail a test, I will try to examine the errors within my work; however, I will then create a goal for myself to make sure I do better on the test the next time. Finding the errors and creating goals to fix the errors makes me an independent learner. I am taking the charge that I want to do better; therefore, I am going to create a goal that helps me succeed. By fixing the errors, I then challenge myself, inside and outside the classroom.
Individuals’ perceptions of their life/worth have the power to control the goals that they can carry out and meet. Every day we are learning new things and everyone has his/her own unique ways of learning. My strong desire to help students with their academic, personal, and social needs make me a strong candidate as a school counselor. While completing my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Program Administration I learned a great deal about myself. I have a passion for learning and want to share and express that love for learning with students. I feel that the Master of School Counseling program provides a direct path to my career goals of helping students to comprehend subject matter while learning to love learning as I do. Not only will
1. You’ll need several sheets of clean paper, and a pencil or pen. (If you like using a computer, that’s fine, too. So is a tape recorder! You can also have a friend take notes for you.)
students grades. The goals for all student learning should be on the same level but seems
The path I have taken toward obtaining my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Management, and Economics, with a concentration in Marketing, has been different than I expected when I first started college. I started at Brooklyn College at 17-years-old and frankly, I wasn’t ready for it. I struggled to balance an awkward schedule of classes and inconsistent study habits. I never felt completely comfortable there and after two years of performing poorly, I enrolled at Kingsborough Community College. I viewed it as a new start and seized the opportunity. I decided to major in Business Administration; I made the Dean’s List, and saw my grades improve dramatically. After completing 74 total credits, I decided I was ready to return to a four-year-college. I initially considered returning to Brooklyn College but at this time my grandmother had become ill. I applied to the College of Staten Island which was near her home and would make it possible for me to help her out with whatever she needed and attend school locally. This worked out great for my first semester. I carried a 3.47 GPA and decided to major in Business, with a concentration in Marketing. At this time, I was working part-time while in school. But due to certain circumstances, I was forced to obtain a full-time job in addition to other part-time commitment. This made it very difficult for me to enroll in classes as most of the upper-level marketing classes that I needed for graduation were only offered during the day when I would now be working. I enrolled in night and weekend classes for the next two semesters but my grades began to suffer. In the last semester I tried to register at the College of Staten Island, I couldn’t fit the courses I needed into my ever-growing w...
Two years ago, I embarked on a journey that would teach me more than I had ever imagined. As a recent college graduate, I was thrilled to finally begin my teaching career in a field I have always held close to my heart. My first two years as a special education teacher presented countless challenges, however, it also brought me great fulfillment and deepened my passion for teaching students with special needs. The experiences I have had both before and after this pivotal point in my life have undoubtedly influenced my desire to further my career in the field of special education.
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
My educational goals are to graduate from the University of Florida with honors with a degree in neuroscience and a minor in business administration. I want to graduate from college because I know that knowledge is the key to success. There are endless possibilities and no limitations when one is knowledgeable about the world around him or her. If I graduate with honors, I will know that I pushed myself to my greatest reaching point and surpassed my limitations. There are great things awaiting me, and the only way to get there is go above and beyond what is expected of me with a solid education. Obtaining my undergraduate degree in neuroscience will help me explore my passion for science while better preparing me for medical school. Reports
The artifact displays that I have the capability to “design and modify instruction” to meet learners’ needs and developmental level based on regular assessments 1a. This is seen in the multiple forms of progress monitoring and assessment I that build each other/connect in order to supply a clear, time-sequenced picture of the student’s skills. Additionally, this piece of evidence displays that I, as a teacher, can “create developmentally appropriate instruction that …[considers]… individual learners’ strengths, interests, and needs to enable …[each]…learner to advance and accelerate in his/her learning” 1b. For example, this artifact includes three mini-lessons and several activities to help meet the focused learners IEP goal, a short-term objective, and Benchmarks. Both the mini-lessons and activities took into account the students’ strengths and preferred format of learning.
As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some
In a world today where information is at a student’s fingertips it’s still so surprising how little students know about the world around them. It is my professional goal to use my Secondary Education, Social Studies Broad Field degree to become a High School Global Studies teacher with a creative twist. When my future students leave my classroom, I want them to have not only a greater understanding of the world events and cultures at large, but also have a great appreciation of the community culture that surrounds them.
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.
EVALUAION OF PERSONAL AND LEARNING GOALS My personal goals are to get an ATAR of +90 to gain entry into dentistry or pharmacy at university, and improve my public speaking skills. My learning goals are to improve my study habits so I can complete my school work with the highest grades possible during senior years, and to find a work experience placement in either a Dental Clinic or Pharmacy by the 27th of March 2017. These goals help me by allowing me to visualise what I want to do in the future and how I can achieve them.
Every student matters, every student deserves the best education, but every student has different needs. Only recently had I realized the significance of public policy and the strong influence it has on both national and global citizens. If put in the wrong hands, countless issues may arise, most of them affecting human and civil rights. My interest in public policy stems from my passionate nature for equity and growth. My interest in especially education policy stems from my experiences in different classroom environments, both as a student and as an employee. My goal is to help education transcend its borders and internationally advocate changes in public policies that create obstacles in children’s educational potentials. Initially, I believed I could accomplish this goal by becoming a Special Education Teacher, but then, I recognized that with my leader-like nature and empowering persona, I
Achieving any goal requires self-discipline. It involves a conscious awareness of our actions and the ability to overcome some of the bad habits that might be holding us. Instilling self- discipline into our lives is not easy task.
