For this assignment I interviewed three constituencies all from Bridgewater State University (BSU). For my constituencies I decided to open a dialogue with a support staff, administrator, and student in an attempt to get a holistic view of the institution both structurally and opinion wise. Before arranging times to meet with each individual I made sure I had clear, concise questions prepared. Each of the Interviewees was asked the same five questions: (1) Can you tell me a bit more about your role/work/studies at Bridgewater State University? (2) What background/ training/skills did you need to be qualified for your current role? (3) What do you enjoy most about your position/studies? (4) Are there things that make BSU special or unique? (5) what would you like to see change for the better in relation to your role on campus? All of …show more content…
When asked what her position entails she said that her main role is to support “the student leaders in this group in any way possible to ensure they are able to complete tasks and goals they have set in place”(E. Hennessey, personal communication, October 12, 2015). Some of her day to day tasks are typing the minutes of the SGA weekly meetings, putting the agenda together, maintaining the office equipment and supplies, overseeing the billing and delivery of The Comment, the institutions student run newspaper. In addition to her duties specifically with the SGA Erin also distributes Strengths Quest codes and oversees Strengths Quest trainings for OSIL. While having a conversation Erin talked about how the best part of her job is “working with students which is something she didn’t realize she would have the opportunity to do when she was first hired” (E. Slippery Rock University is located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The school was founded in 1889 and was known as the Slippery Rock Normal school with an enrollment of 168 students. The school started out as a teacher education institution. The school then became a four-year teacher’s college after it was purchased by the Commonwealth in 1926. The main focus of education during that time was health and physical education as well as elementary and secondary education. In 1960, the institution then became known as Slippery Rock State College that offered liberal arts and other professions allowing prospective students to earn their undergrad and graduate degrees. Between 1960 and 1970, the enrollment rose significantly by 24.1% eventually becoming
The California Community Colleges (CCC) system is composed of 108 colleges organized into 72 districts that serve more than 1.4 million students statewide. Under the direction of the CCC board of governors, the Chancellor’s Office provides statewide guidance and leadership to the community colleges. In addition, the voters in each district elect a board of trustees charged with developing local policies that govern the day-to-day operations at the district’s colleges, including overseeing the compensation of teaching faculty and other employees. For the fall 1999 semester, the districts reported to the Chancellor’s Office a total population of 41,754 teaching faculty, of which 28,180 (67 percent) were classified as part-time and 13,574 (33
...r] to stay on top of [her] grant applications on behalf of [her] students because it is what enables the most students to participate in the program. It is a constant struggle between encouraging [her] students to do well to prove the program’s worth and using the programs worth to earn more funding.” She uses the grants to buy supplies to teach the students in the program and help with costs.
(Giroir, 2013). In this particular assignment, I am asked to interview a college graduate or
Almost nothing is better than getting a good education and it is important for everyone to attend where PCC is a great place to start. So, Pasadena City College is located in Colorado Blvd and the school has a lot of beautiful views. In my opinion, PCC is a great school due to their diverse programs and the supports that they offered to students.
The situation I have identified is that Conestoga College Doon Campus does not offer enough healthy, yet still affordable, food options for students and faculty. This is a rhetorical situation because the situation can be changed or modified. The exigence in this situation is that many students are becoming more and more health conscious, but do not have the healthy food options that are still affordable. My audience is Jennifer Bruder, the food services director for Chartwells at Conestoga, as she is the one who could make the decision about offering more healthy food options. This is a rhetorical audience as she is the person who could make the end decision about offering more healthy options, because they are the organization
Florida International University is a public school that is located in Miami, Florida. FIU has a population of 41,038 students, also the majority of the students are Cuban or Cuban decedents. The area on which the university was constructed was an abandoned air field. It is also one of the top 10 largest universities in the United States of America. When attending FIU one should consider the admission criteria, tuition, and academic majors. Also, it is important to have academic support, understand the college’s demographics, and familiarize oneself with campus life.
SALEM, Mass. - Salem State University will lower all students tuition by 10 percent in hope that making higher education more affordable, will attract other students to join the university. The 10 percent tuition reduction will be applied to all students: in-state, out-of-state, graduate students and undergraduates.
Lastly, Erin has got a weak position power as she was only a clerk then and she has no authority or position power to make important decisions but she has the personal powe, the leadership power to make things work.
The four individuals chosen for this interview included two latinas, a individual of African descent and an individual who is both Guyana and Venezuela but does not identify as Latina. Before conducting this interview I explained to the participant what the assignment consisted of and what would be asked of them for the interview portion. I told each participant that I would give them a phrase and that upon hearing the phrase, would be asked to give three words that come to mind when they hear that phrase. After the explanation I would ask if they understood and then asked if I had their consent to participate in this activity. Once they agreed to participate in this interview, I would go onto the interview. It is worth mentioning that all
Erin worked extremely hard on the given case to get justice or to the proper solution for the victims no matter how they treated her on the front end. Erin was a very passionate person about her work and the people involved. Erin also had a bit of a feisty temper toward those who doubt or put limitations on her abilities which I felt was needed because of her past, where she came from and how
Conducting an interview is not as straightforward as it may seem. On paper the idea is that an interview is “‘a meeting of two persons to exchange information and ideas through questions and responses, resulting in communication and joint construction of meaning about a particular topic’” (Esterberg 2001:83). In the social sciences, being able to interview individuals allows the research to observe individual experiences, while also speaking to the broader sociological dynamics of a society. In Qualitative Methods in Social Research, Esterberg describes interviewing as a “relationship between two individuals…two individuals come together to try to create meaning about a particular topic. While participating in this relationship, they also draw
She needs to encourage the staff to become empowered and help the staff to resolve that behaviors that are contributing to the feeling of powerlessness.
She has a clear understanding of the information that needs to be dispersed to the trainees. She knows the facts and has done research on the skills that she is teaching. At the same time, she has displayed an inability to implement some of the very skills that she is teaching such as good communication and networking, which would indicate a lack of procedural knowledge. Heather’s inability to answer questions and be a resource to her class would also support this deficiency.
Before I dove straight into the interview I firstly explained a little bit about myself and why I needed to know about the student life at Capilano even though I was not part of the Student Union. I could see that she was feeling a little uncomfortable about the whole situation and most likely wanted to check the newest post on her mobile device so I tried to make her feel more comfortable by giving a sense of formality. I then asked her a few questions to break the ice, such as, name, degree, and so-on. Answering these questions with fantastic punctuality I figured this was going to be a breeze until I asked my first question, How are you finding University? It went downhill from there with a ordinary, good. To my realization that this question was quite tough to
