A strength in the community system is the tight bound that is present within the community. Despite the neighborhood being run-down, the community is described as a close-knit family. Those who are against the development have formed the Brickville Community Benefits Alliance to voice their disapproval of the development. Those for the development have formed the group, Vision Brickville. Despite there being two groups, it shows that the community can unite together to support the causes that they support. Stressors in the community is the real estate developer who proposed the development plan. The plan has added conflict between community organizations that don’t agree on the plan. Some members of community see that the plan can bring change to the community that will better life for the community. They see the plan will lead to a reestablished community with new order and hope. They also see that there will be new employment opportunities and stabilization in the areas. Those against the plan feel like there is a lack of trust with the developer since he has been buying properties from the community for several years without consulting the residents. They also don’t agree with the design of the plan and the for-profit real estate agent. The …show more content…

The Crossroads development has dominated the local conversation in Mahwah for the past 9 months. Over the past few years, the Crossroads Developers had put forth various proposals for development of the site, only to have them rejected by the Mahwah Township Council. This past March, the Developer once again came to the Council in order to ask that their property be rezoned from office use to mixed-use/retail to allow for the construction of a complex of retail stores, restaurants, a movie theater, hotel and office space. Over 400 residents attended the March 31 meeting to express their opposition to the development. This unprecedented turnout by Mahwah residents, unlike any the Council had seen before, should have been enough for the Council to realize that a decision to rezone the property may not be in the best interests of Mahwah residents. Instead, the Council voted 4-2 to allow for the property to be rezoned.

Bricklayer’s Boy is a story about a father and son and their working lives. The Narrator, or son, grew up in a blue-collared household, with a father that was a bricklayer. By his early 20’s, his father already had a wife, a career, two sons and a house. His father was the son of an immigrant, and believed in working hard so that his sons could get white-collared jobs and have an easier life. The narrator had other ideas though, and decided to become a newspaper reporter. His father didn’t understand this decision because he expected him to make as much money as possible. When the narrator was offered his first job at a daily paper in Columbus, Ohio, his father said, “Why can’t you get a good job that pays something, like in advertising in the city, and write on the side?” “Advertising is lying,” the narrator replied, “ I wanna tell the truth.” His dad continued to push advertising in the weeks before he moved, until one night he came home with tape and bubble wrap and helped him pack to move.

When determining whether this is a feasible project we need to take into consideration, which stakeholders could negatively be affected and what will The Home Depot do to minimize this impact. It is important that positive outcomes surpass negative outcomes, otherwise, this project will not succeed. The textbook states, “"The importance of aligning projects with organization strategy cannot be overstated.” This quotation means that above all, this project must relate to the mission strategy of the organization in order to maintain the interests of the stakeholders. Without stakeholders on board, this project would not be possible. The Home Depot’s actions in completing this project needs to be sensitive to any group that affects or can be affected because The Home Depot’s reputation is always being evaluated.
The strengths referenced below have been well established in the organization for many years, and are not tied to one particular individual or position. These are areas of strength that would likely remain if a particular program or productive employee left the district. The district
“Living and Dying in Brick City” by Sampson Davis is a book about different stories he shares about his time in Beth Israel Medical Center. The chapter that stood out to me the most was called “Love Hurts”. This chapter was about a woman who was getting abused at home by her boyfriend and refuses to leave him. This chapter affected me because when I was younger my mom was in an abusive relationship. She also had a child with that man and refused to leave him. Like the women in the book. Every time my mom tried to leave he always pulled her back by saying “I’ll change I promise”.
The community of Brownsville, Brooklyn is faced with many challenges in which they are in the process of overcoming according to Community Health Profiles 2015 (NYC HEALTH). The maintenance of housing ranks 12th of all cities in New York City in maintenance defects in households. Household defects are described as inoperable hygiene equipment, inadequate cooling or heating, water leaks, cracks, holes and peeling paint. These defects pose a threat to the residence of Brownsville, as well as decrease the property value for many sections of Brownsville. Due to the decreased property value many business owners and organic markets refrain from bringing new businesses here. The businesses which continue to populate the streets of Brownsville are majority fast food chains, under valued product distributors, and controlled substances.
The main focus of Block’s book is to “create a more positive and connected future for our communities, we must be willing to trade their problems for their possibilities.” The first chapter begins by laying out the format of the text and the multiple authors and their thoughts that Block will draw on to explain how to create and maintain healthy community. Block then goes on to discuss the importance of context within the community or the “fabric” of the community. Blocks makes it a point to discuss John McKnight’s three insights within a community: gifts, associational life, and community member power. Essentially, the context

Danville was the first in Contra Costa County to have a neighborhood traffic management program (NTMP) to address neighborhood traffic issues. Due to the fact, that the main town has narrow streets, lined with boutiques, restaurants, and cafes, there is a huge influx of pedestrians, thus, the importance for education and enforcibiity about safe driving is crucial. In the downtown area, the speed limit is 25 MPH, and on the outskirts of Danville, the speed limits range from 30-45 MPH. The town council makes traffic enforcement a priority by instilling safety and appropriate behavior while driving in Danville. Again, due to the beautification project that was recently finished, there are large street signs
Should the residents of Hopeville choose solar power or fossil fuels in their community? If I were a resident of Hopeville I would want to have solar power in the community.
The local residents perspective of this development is more of a negative one, as they are scared of the overcrowding that the development could cause and also the congestion of what is to happen in the area, since the people would want a peaceful place to live
Baltimore offers a very general issue that many planners face today when it comes to community participation and taking decisions and the quality to the outcomes of these meetings. Although the planners could have gone the distance in understanding the community identity and diversity often times it becomes harder for planners in their roles to wear the hats of sociologists and go about affecting the outcomes through educating the community. Understanding the roots of any community is very important in taking decisions for its future course. The way the planners acted here is more a natural course of action that most of the planners go by today. Baum asks for the planners to be enforcers to be ethical in this case pushing the agenda of common good that is probably ignored by the homeowners that participate for their own self interests. He also says the issue crops when planners do not do more to create the climate for everybody to feel emotionally on the same page for them to feel more comfortable in seeing not just their own interests but others, thereby allowing them to see the diversity in the community without feeling shame or depression.
Bricks, you always thought, were for the exteriors. You never really imagined a brick wall inside the house, leave alone in your living room. When I say a brick wall, I mean an exposed brick wall and not bricks cemented and painted over, which is, of course, pretty normal. The new age interiors have, however, changed all that. Today, proper brick walls inside the house are ending up grabbing the attention of house owners around the world.
