In a pepsi ad in 2017, Kendall Jenner appear in the ad handing a pepsi can to a policeman while protest were going on about Black Lives Matter.The commercial starts with a Black Lives matter protest and kendall jenner notices and she goes to the protest and hands one of the officers there a pepsi and he drinks it and after everyone is celebrating. Many got offended saying that just because she is rich an famous doesn’t mean she can solve the black lives matter issue with a pepsi can.Pepsi got a lot of hate for this ad. People were boycotting all pepsi product because of this. Pepsi finally took down the ad and everything wasn't completely back to normal people are still mad and disappointed at pepsi for even thinking the ad was a good idea.
The issues of how technology is influencing our nation today has come into play with social media and surveillance in our personal lives. We use twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. to express our opinions on things and as a voice to inform people on what’s going on in today’s society. We have learned how to use the tools we’ve been given to change our lives forever; our government has access to all of our personal information in exchange for our protection against terrorism. The documentary Killing Us Softly 4 discusses and examines the role of women in advertisements and the effects of the ads throughout history. The film begins by inspecting a variety of old ads. The speaker, Jean Kilbourne, then discusses and dissects each ad describing the messages of the advertisements and the subliminal meanings they evoke. The commercials from the past and now differ in some respects but they still suggest the same messages. These messages include but are not limited to the following: women are sexual objects, physical appearance is everything, and women are naturally inferior then men. Kilbourne discusses that because individuals are surrounded by media and advertisements everywhere they go, that these messages become real attitudes and mindsets in men and women. Women believe they must achieve a level of beauty similar to models they see in magazines and television commercials. The Black Public Relations Society hosted a general body meeting titled, “Black Women in the Media” in the Tuttleman Learning Center. The meeting was conducted by two of the black female students one of which was the president. Going into the meeting, I felt eager to get talking about the negative stereotypes on women. Now that I look back, I didn’t even think about the black women of the LGBTQIA+ community and how they are portrayed in the media.
This company has made a grave mistake by releasing this commercial that will take some time to come back from, if ever. The communication of this ad should have clearly been thought out more. Clearly, using a white celebrity such as Kendall Jenner was not a good idea. Through -out the entire advertisement, it demonstrated the beauty and skill sets. Instead of using a white person to be the main source of the commercial, it would have been more received if using someone that clearly understood and made it clear what the black lives matter movement was all about. Being the CEO of the company, if trying to make a statement with so much controversy today, I would have made a team of different ethnic groups and joined together with ideas from each to make a great and a meaningful advertisement that would unite
Black lives matter is a social media movement that went of the Ferguson, Gardner cases etc. Also very rapidly it was to show as a opposition to the police and cops. Somehow when saying black lives matter it was like saying all life matter don’t matter. It’s a touchy subject due to why people view things and for most case I can understand. I feel that the person that made black life’s matter didn’t mean for it to be just all about black life but to inform others around the nation that there is a special problem that is only happening in the African American community and we have fix that issue . we as a society has to recognize this that the African American are not making this up this its not something being politicalized its real and there’s a history behind it so we have to seriously.

With a net worth of millions, Pepsi has featured many famous artists in our society, including the late singer and songwriter Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson, who was already at the peak of his stardom, had partnered with Pepsi for a commercial specifically aimed towards the younger audience who they referred to the ‘new generation.’
Racism and discrimination continue to be a prevalent problem in American society. Although minorities have made significant strides toward autonomy and equality, the images in media, specifically television, continue to misrepresent and manipulate the public opinion of blacks. It is no longer a blatant practice upheld by the law and celebrated with hangings and beatings, but instead it is a subtle practice that is perceived in the entertainment and media industries. Whether it’s appearing in disparaging roles or being negatively portrayed in newscasts, blacks continue to be the victims of an industry that relies on old ideas to appeal to the majority. The viscous cycle that is the unconscious racism of the media continues to not only be detrimental to the white consumers, who base what they know about blacks by what is represented in television, but also the black consumers, who grow up with a false sense of identity.

As I researched the Runaway slave advertisements it came to my attention that not all of the slaves were “runaways”, and that many of them had been stolen. It made me wonder, were these slaves happy that they were stole? Were these slaves moved to a better place or were they suffering more than before? What gave these people the right to steal someone like they are a object and force them to do what they want them to do.

A Belgium blogging company, called Opusfidelis wrote, “The ad went viral within a few hours of being posted to the Pepsi Belgium Facebook page, getting thousands of shares and spreading to Twitter, Google+, and Reddit like wildfire” (2013). The ad reached this viral status on social media because the Coca-Cola supporters felt the Pepsi can was improved by wearing a Coca-Cola cloak where the Pepsi side felt the opposite. There was so much talk between the two sides about the “Scary Pepsi” ad that Coca-Cola even gave an unofficial response back. In Coca-Cola’s version of the ad, the original text that read, “We wish you a scary Halloween” was changed to “Everyone wants to be a hero!” Now the red cloak that was seen as a funny play on words before, now looked like a red cape. Transforming the Pepsi into a superior product, Coca-Cola, this unofficial response provided further fuel to the fire between the two camps and became the Coca-Cola supporter’s rallying cry.
