Dwight D. Eisenhower
Dwight D. Eisenhower’s strong and experienced leadership in the United States military was the main contribution of him becoming one of the greatest and mot successful presidents. Born on October 14, 1890, Dwight D. Eisenhower had a role of leadership. During his high school career he was a leader on the baseball and football field. Once he graduated high school he took off from school for to years to go work with his uncle and father at the Bell Springs Creamery and worked as a fire fighter. He acted as a leader by using his money to help pay for his brothers tuition for college. In 1911, Dwight was accepted into West Point Academy, this was the start of his military career that would take him far in his life.
While at West Point, Dwight graduated in a class that had 59 future generals. After he graduated, on July 1, 1916, his wedding day, Dwight D. Eisenhower was promoted to become a first lieutenant. Through his early military career he had to move from post to post in Texas, Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. During World War I, Dwight was appointed to run a tank training center at Camp Colt in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Following World War I he was appointed a captain in 1918. After working up in rankings over the years, he was promoted in 1920 to become a major.
After World War I he was stationed at the Panama Canal Zone with General Fox Conner. While being stationed at the Panama Canal Zone, General Conner helped Dwight D. Eisenhower improve his military knowledge and strategies. General Conner urged him to go to a very prestigious army school, the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
