President Harry Truman and President Dwight Eisenhower were both very different from each other. President Truman was our 33rd President and President Eisenhower was our 34th President. They both served two terms during their presidency. President Truman was part of the Democratic Party. He served in office from 1945 to 1953. Alben Barkley served under him as his Vice President. Truman was elected right after President FDR served his four terms as President. The people wanted to get someone new in office. Truman just got into office just before WWII ended. After the war ended, he was able to help keep America on the right track through a recession. Truman was the first President to use the atomic bomb. In 1945, the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb
on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan. When the atomic bomb was dropped, Japan surrendered. He also passed the Marshall Law, which funded money to help Europe rebuild after WWII. President Eisenhower was part of the Republican Party. He served in office from 1953 to 1961. Richard Nixon served as his Vice President, and became President in 1969. During President Eisenhower, the GNP went from $212 billion to $504 billion. During the 1950’s segregation was going on and African Americans were not being treated right. Many just wanted to live a better life than what they were. Eisenhower created school for the African American kids, and it was separate from the regular schools. During the presidency of Eisenhower, many programs were created such as NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), and IHS (International Highway System), which are great programs that benefit the US today. He also helped protect the right for African Americans to vote. Both of these Presidents were different in many ways. They both did some great things during their presidencies. Truman was the first President to be elected since FDR was in office. He was able to end WWII by dropping an atomic bomb on parts of Japan. During the Eisenhower Administration, the GNP went up. He was able to get African American kids in school. NASA and IHS still benefit us today.
Both Truman’s and Eisenhower’s governments were engaged in the Cold War, and contributed to increased tensions with Russia. Truman was the initiator of the containment policy, which was implemented throughout the duration of the Cold War. This policy was put into effect in order to prevent the spread of communism.
Lyndon B. Johnson and Ronald Reagan have many difference in the government. Lyndon B. Johnson saying that congress role to promote “general welfare” to discover ways to improve government. Reagan called the war on poverty a failure and proposed budget to reduce spending social programs but increase the size of military. By compare and contrasting Lyndon B. Johnson’s speech on affirmative action with Ronald Reagan’s inaugural address can show the differences and alikeness in federal Government.
There are many opinions surrounding the question: Was the decision by Truman to drop the atomic bomb ultimately the right or wrong decision? Not only can this question be answered in many different ways, it can be interpreted in many different ways as well. Overall, Truman ultimately made the right decision to drop the atomic bomb. This can be supported by the fact that the atomic bomb helped prevent the deaths of American troops, saved the lives of foreign citizens, and in comparison the atomic bomb was not as destructive as the firebombing in Tokyo.
Presidents Johnson and Reagan led the United States in two very different eras, and have left much different legacies from their time in office. Their social policies while President were almost completely opposites. Johnson was focused on making social reforms to benefit all Americans, while Reagan wanted to lessen the aid given to those in poverty.
Influenced by the fear of communism by American society and containment beliefs of people like George Kennan, who advocated that the US should use diplomatic, economic, and military action to contain communism, Truman established the Truman Doctrine, which stated that the US would protect democracies throughout the world, pledging the US would fight it around the world. This doctrine was an extension to both the Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary. In dealing with foreign policy, Truman did everything to protect nations of being consumed by communism, such as the Berlin Airlift, in which Truman decided to avoid the Soviet blockade of West Berlin and flew supplies directly over to the people in need. In Asia, Truman decided to use limited warfare, meaning the lack of atomic weapons, and was highly criticized by Douglas MacArthur, commander of the army, who he later dismissed for not following US policy.
There were three presidents who served during the Progressive Era. They are Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft, and Woodrow Wilson. Of those presidents, I feel that Theodore Roosevelt was the most successful during this time. He was known as a hero of the Spanish-American war by many people. He also believed in “speaking softly and carrying a big stick”. These are two of the reasons why he was widely popular. President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901. At the time, Theodore Roosevelt was vice president of the United States. Once McKinley was shot, Roosevelt stepped up as the 26th president. At the age of 43, he was recorded as the youngest president to ever take power. Roosevelt created the “Square Deal” that was focused on the three
They genuinely wanted what was best for the United States. Few would consider running for President in this country, with its checks and balances, if they did not care about the best things for the nation as a whole. Jefferson, for example, was the author of the Declaration of Independence and had been in George Washington’s cabinet. Jefferson did this before he was ever President and it is hard to imagine a man would dedicate that much time and energy in something he did not care whole heartedly about. Harry S. Truman did not have a complicated history in politics, as a former senator, and was thrust into the presidency after Franklin Delano Roosevelt died. He never went looking to be the President of the United States. It just fell on him suddenly as did an entire throng of issues that were currently going on especially with World War Two. He too genuinely cared for the country and the outcome of these events going on in the world around them. Neither of these men were in office purely to have power, they were in office because they cared about the world around them. Both Jefferson and Truman expanded the United States albeit in very different areas. Jefferson physically grew the United States with the Louisiana Purchase, which nearly doubled the land of the nation. Truman on the other hand expanded the defense of the nation as well as the international dealings in
The Korean War changed the face of American Cold War diplomacy forever. In the midst of all the political conflict and speculation worldwide, the nation had to choose between two proposed solutions, each one hoping to ensure that communism didn?t sweep across the globe and destroy American ideals of capitalism and democracy. General Douglas MacArthur takes the pro-active stance and says that, assuming it has the capability, the U.S. should attack communism everywhere. President Harry Truman, on the other hand, believed that containing the Soviet communists from Western Europe was the best and most important course of action, and that eliminating communism in Asia was not a priority.

Although, of all the correlation?s these Presidents share, they also have a few contrasting elements. President Clinton and Nixon committed different categories of crime. In fact, Clinton?s nature of the crime was sexual rather than criminal self-indulgent; thus, Nixon self indulgent rather than sexual. The two Presidents also have different methods of upholding the US economy and fighting inflation. For instance, Nixon cut back and opposed federal welfare services, proposed antibusing legislation, and used wage-and-price controls to fight inflation. Clinton on the other hand, proposed more moderate health-care and welfare-reform measures and advocated plans that would reduce taxes less and more gradually eliminate the federal debt. As well as crime and great strategies of cutting down the taxes and eliminating federal dept, both the Presidents made historic marks in history. For example, in February 1972 Nixon made a historic trip to Beijing (Peking)--where he was received by Mao Zedong (Mao Tse-tung)--thus reversing the U.
Truman’s accomplishments in his domestic policy were impressive, considering the hardships the nation was experiencing as World War II came to an end, and the resistance of Congress (which was greatly made up of Republicans and conservatives) to liberalism. The president was able to pas...
Oaths and promises were made by Franklin Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover in their inaugural addresses. Hoover and Roosevelt helped the country face the depression and transition into World War II. Both presidents’ inaugural addresses voiced concern and hope for the country. In their inaugural addresses, Hoover and Roosevelt expressed views about the future, the current situation, the challenges that were faced by our leaders, and how the Great Depression impacted the nation

The Great Depression, beginning in the last few months of 1929, impacted the vast majority of people nationwide and worldwide. With millions of Americans unemployed and many in danger of losing their homes, they could no longer support their families. Children, if they were lucky, wore torn up ragged clothing to school and those who were not lucky remained without clothes. The food supply was scarce, and bread was the most that families could afford. Households would receive very limited rations of food, or small amounts of money to buy food. This led to the starvation of families, including children. African-americans faced tougher challenges than most during the Depression due to discrimination. The classes hit hardest were middle-class
President Harry Truman, 33rd president of the United States, had to face one of the most effective decisions of mankind. The atomic bomb was first served as an idea which was created underneath the United States government. With a nuclear weapon like the atomic bomb, came great responsibility. The idea of how to use and regulate the bomb was not yet implemented. Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb changed the way Americans thought about war because of its traumatic after effects.
