Dwight Eisenhower’s Impacts on the U.S. Military
Dwight Eisenhower is well known for his military and political accomplishments. He set a precedent for military coordination, planning, and risk management on a large scale. Many know of Eisenhower for his success during WWII. After a successful military career, he later became the president of the United States during the cold war era. As a president, he adopted new policies and concepts to try to achieve peace with minimal use of military forces. Dwight Eisenhower had a significant impact on the U.S. Military as both an officer in the United States Army, as well as the president of the United States.
As Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during WWII, General Eisenhower was the leader in charge of planning Operation Overlord or D-Day (Ambrose, 1983). This was a complex, large-scale operation that put many lives on the line. Sending thousands of military forces to storm the beaches of Normandy and face death was not an easy task. Operation Overlord was successful, and its success gained Eisenhower fame. Eisenhower used risk management on a high level to plan the operation. At the same time, Eisenhower was an empathetic leader who understood the emotional
General Eisenhower made difficult decisions that others may not have. The D-day invasion is well known for its successes given the almost impossible situation. If General Eisenhower did not make the decision to take Normandy the Allied campaign into Europe may not have succeeded. Moving into his presidency, Dwight Eisenhower came into a difficult time because of Soviet opposition. He was president during a time of a downsized military and emphasized peace and less use of U.S. military forces. The U.S. Military will continue to use Dwight Eisenhower as an example of a successful leader, and that is his largest

COL Prescott’s role in the Battle of Bunker Hill, or more correctly know as the Battle of Breed’s Hill, is a great example of how to properly execute mission command. Before I get to the analysis portion of this assignment, the speech I have decided to go with is former President Ronald Reagan’s speech on the 40th Anniversary of D-Day that was delivered at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy, France, on June 6, 1984. This is the speech I wanted to use for my analytical paper because I have always been extremely interested in World War II and anything affiliated with it. Also, I actually had two grandfathers that served in the Philippines fighting alongside American soldiers as guerilla fighters against the Japanese invaders during the war. President Reagan was the one who presented the speech, but to my slight disappointment, he did not actually prepare it himself. The speech was actually written by Peggy Noonan, the primary speechwriter and special assistant to President Reagan. After reading and watching footage of the speech, I found it to be a great collaboration between the speaker and the writer.
In order to receive a victory in the Battle of the Bulge, General Patton used Mission Command Analysis in order to understand how he can be successful for this mission. The first thing of understanding t...
Eisenhower’s foreign policy was about containment and trying to discourage other countries from joining it by giving them financial and military aid. When he realized that containment itself was not enough to stop the Soviet expansion, he adopted a policy which he called massive retaliation whereby the U.S. was prepared to use atomic weapons if they were to be attacked. He tried diplomacy to develop relation with the Soviets even agreeing to join other leaders in Geneva Switzerland with the intention to calm the temperatures between the two nations. When diplomacy didn’t work, he signed a bill that allowed countries to request economic and military help from the U.S. if they are being attacked by a communist nation. Cold War did not end until after Ronald Reagan’s time as president when he challenged the leader of the Soviet to take down the Berlin wall which was the most recognizable symbol of the Cold War. At this time, the Soviet Union was disintegrating and its influence in Eastern Europe was waning fast bringing the war to an

...ver a period of over two years and although the obtaining of a foothold in Germany was necessary, the leaders could have taken many more precautions to save many American lives. War finds success and failure inescapably linked to how well the Combined, Joint, and Multinational Commander ensures the Joint War Fighting Function “Sustainment” planning is linked to strategic, operational and tactical objectives. General Eisenhower’s Operation OVERLORD, the Allied cross channel, air, and seaborne invasion of France during World War II provides an excellent case study to show successful integration of the principles and the spirit of the Joint War Fighting Function “Sustainment.” OVERLORD required synchronizing, coordinating, and integrating the logistics capabilities of coalition forces, their equipment as well as civilian manufacturing capabilities to meet the strategic end state (e.g. the defeat of Germany). This article will review the purpose and definition of Joint Sustainment, its imperatives and logistics planning principles and examine how Eisenhower and his planners incorporated these imperatives and principles into Operation OVERLORD.

The Battle of Normandy was a turning point in World War II. Canada, America, and Great Britain arrived at the beaches of Normandy and their main objective was to push the Nazi’s out of France. The Invasion at Normandy by the Allied Powers winning this battle lead to the liberation of France and Western Europe. Most importantly Hitler’s was being attacked from both the eastern and western front, and caused him to lose power. If the Allied Powers did not succeed in D-Day Hitler would’ve taken over all of Europe. In a document written by General Dwight Eisenhower he persuades the allied powers to invade Normandy. Dwight Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890. Eisenhower became the 34th president of the United States. He served as the president from January 20, 1953 through January 20, 1961. Before his presidency Dwight participated in World War I and was moved up to captain. Dwight would then take part in World War II and work his way up to becoming a General.
Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during World War II, was close to not achieving commander status. If this had happened, a different person would have taken control over Operations Torch, Avalanche, and Overlord. Eisenhower, in fact, was the key component in the victory for the Allies. Had he not been assigned by George Marshall to a planning officer in Washington D.C., President Harry Truman might not have saw Eisenhower’s potential. Eisenhower’s past 30 years of military experience, his strong mental and social stature, and his ideas and tactics were all key factors for his triumphant victory in World War II.
