Music is known for its ability to express the views and emotion of the not only the singer, but of the audience that happens to be listening. Songs can express just about everything, ranging from love to sermons about world problems. The song that resonates the most with me is about world problems; just ones that happen to be a lot closer to home. The work of art that resonates most with me is a song titled “One Man Can Change The World” by Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, better known by his stage name Big Sean, featuring Kanye West and John Legend. It can be said that, when hearing the first two names, a common individual may make the assumption that “One Man Can Change The World” is going to be about a promiscuous woman while mentioning a lot of crude language. However, this song goes a lot deeper than that; to the point where it shatters hearts only to build them back up. The song was originally created for the sole purpose of honoring Big Sean’s recently deceased grandmother who was one of the …show more content…
first black female captains in the Army. In my opinion, it means more than that. The song addresses to the audience from the very beginning- in the first verse - by telling them that they should not only work to provide for themselves and fulfill their desires, but also those same dreamers should make sure that they are content with themselves and how they got there.
This honestly strikes me hard to the core as this is a pretty hard concept for a high school student like myself to strive to achieve. High schoolers already have the pressure of that next frontier; college, jobs, or other opportunities where they are then expected to reach the next destination relatively on their own as they have to suddenly become adults. This frightens me, to be honest, as I’m afraid of how I could possibly fail and how others (i.e. family and friends) might be disappointed in me if I do. Nevertheless, the words of wisdom provided in this song soothes these fears, in a sense, as I know that as long as I feel content with what I have done, then I should be
alright. The body (and rest) of the song can be described as the story of Big Sean and how he rose from nothing to being near the top of the charts within the music industry. I feel overwhelmed, but motivated from how this one man, who probably lived a tougher life than I have, but has made a success of himself and for family. That’s what really strikes me, knowing that I can succeed. Why can’t I? This man, from virtually nothing, has made himself content with how he is, and that’s all I have ever really wanted. High schoolers, as teenagers, we do not really know what path we want to take to reach the lives that they have always dreamed about having as an adult. However, just knowing that by being content with what I have done in my later life equals success takes a lot of stress off me personally. I know I can accomplish it all with the help of my family; just as Big Sean had the help of his grandmother.
I think music has a way of explaining something or telling a story. Music can bring up happy times, it can also bring up sad times as well. Certain songs can remind someone of troubling issues from a past, can be the reminder of someone you have lost, it can also be a reminder of many happy times; such as weddings, high school dances, or even just hanging out with friends in the back
People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I am today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made.
...ant in sharing something extraordinary that unites us all. Music is truly an indication of success for the expression of an emotion is a redemptive experience that not only one person feels but others as well. Traditional music as well as international music is a form of artwork that colors our world.
I do not dream of becoming a famous idol or a millionaire. I dream of being able to achieve goals that will impact my life and the rest of the world. Four stressful years, 28 credits, and innumerable hours of no sleep. I will walk across the stage and receive my diploma with a grin of accomplishment. I am proud to share that I will be the first high school graduate in my family's generation, but I do not want to settle for a high school diploma;
Music and songwriting date back centuries. Cultures, families, and religions have all used it as a way of expression and unity since the very beginning of time. Song writing in particular has become one of the most popular ways for society to express their thoughts and views of the caucus around us all. Music is a common language that we’ve all learned to speak and appreciate, and it is one way for us to stay connected as people.
Every song that you listen to doesn’t always have lyrics you can connect with. It loses your attention when it doesn’t relate to you. Or when it doesn’t have lyrics in the song that can make you a better person. When you come across a song that actually have meaning to you, you keep listening to that one song over and over and it becomes special to you immediately or it can be overtime. It makes you feel emotions you enjoy feeling.
I have always believed that a musician writes music to express his/her emotions, thoughts, and beliefs in a way that can be both hidden and quite apparent to their listeners at the same time. It can be viewed as a release or a medium through which to share an experience. These artists attempt to relate to their listeners and even hope to provide the listener with the words to express their own feelings. Music has proven to be a very important part of society, both past and present, for just this reason: expression. This medium of expression becomes even more important when the feelings being expressed are those which are not easily accepted by society.
As high schoolers, we 're constantly juggling a lot of big responsibilities, from academic pressure from our parents to social pressure from our friends to act cool, wear the right clothes, and listen to the right music. It can be really overwhelming, and then, to top it off, is that goal in the distance that we 're told we must want: go to college. Day in and day out we hear that if we don 't go to college we are doomed to not have a career or a purpose in life, be poor for the rest of our lives, and be an embarrassment to our families. This focus on college is unfounded and unfair. We shouldn 't be given just one choice in high school — instead, we should be provided with alternatives to college in case we don 't
The lyrics convey the message, but music aids in capturing attention and sending the intended tone or theme to the audience. Whether the message is to stop and think about the wonderful little things in life or to not judge people based on their looks, music has the power to inform people and influence action. This can be seen over time as What a Wonderful World was from the late 1960’s and Heathens is from this current year, 2016. I feel that music has the power to transform and mold views and emotions.
Music has the power to directly influence people. It takes direct control of the minds of listeners and influences the ways people operate, including their actions, motives, and feelings. This influence can be seen in all genres of music. Each genre is made to generate a specific response from listeners, whether it is a high energy, head banging response from metal, or a smooth and relaxing response from R&B. When addressing responses to music, another interesting aspect to consider is the lyrics. Lyrics have a strong presence in music, usually telling a story or circling around a common topic or theme. Songs that separate themselves from others are those possessing lyrics that portray a message. Often times, these lyrics that can rally a group
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
Many people would wonder how does music in some ways express how we feel or even other people like musicians / popular singers to make other people understand how they feel? Maybe why do people put their emotion/ feelings in a song they write or play. Though there are many ways people would put everything in a song that they are singing/writing on how they feel. In Music is what feelings sound like by Cortney S. Warren she states,”Given the emotionally charged nature of music, it can be an incredibly effective way to express ourselves and cope with challenging life circumstances. Because sometimes life is really hard. Really really hard. Whether it be conflict with family, ending a relationship, or experiencing trauma, we all have moments
As previously stated, music is a way to communicate with the artist’s audience. A message could be spread by Relating with a group of people and making them aware of what the artists believes in. In the short film, the violinist expresses the beauty of the violin and sends a message of beauty as he plays the instrument. In the article “4 Reasons We Listen to Sad Music When We’re Sad” by Janette Bicknell PH. D, music and its message are explained: “Another way listeners achieve the goal of cognitive reappraisal is through seeking out music with a message they wanted to relate to. Remember the 1978 hit “I Will Survive”? I would venture that some of its popularity was due to its strongly positive first-person message” (Bicknell). Songs like “I Will Survive” have messages that could relate to the audience. One song that has a strong meaning to me is “How to Save a Life” by the Fray; having lost many friends and family within my lifetime, being able to relate with the song the meaning is deeper and allows me to have a greater connection with the
I knew that right after high-school, I would be on a new road to life. For me, college wasn’t a choice. Even though it was pushed on me by my family as I grew older, I knew myself that I wanted to be the one to help my family out and I was determined to be successful. I planned to be successful the same way that I did in high-school. By going to college, you will always have your education to fall back on no matter what i...
The music industry is often thought of as an outlet for creative energy. A place where you can express the emotions and thoughts that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to. Yet, the music industry has dramatically taken a turn. Today we have several genres and artists, but it seems that we’re loosing our depth. Our lyrics no longer have meaning. Rather, there’s more emphasis on the “catchiness”, or sound of each track. However, on September 15th, 2016 at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Kendrick Lamar took stage for what was said to be “A Legendary Performance” (Singleton 2016). Lamar preformed alongside his jazz band and several dancers, to two of the songs from his album To Pimp a Butterfly. Through this performance he was able to bring universal
