Many people would wonder how does music in some ways express how we feel or even other people like musicians / popular singers to make other people understand how they feel? Maybe why do people put their emotion/ feelings in a song they write or play. Though there are many ways people would put everything in a song that they are singing/writing on how they feel. In Music is what feelings sound like by Cortney S. Warren she states,”Given the emotionally charged nature of music, it can be an incredibly effective way to express ourselves and cope with challenging life circumstances. Because sometimes life is really hard. Really really hard. Whether it be conflict with family, ending a relationship, or experiencing trauma, we all have moments …show more content…
in which we are brought to our knees with pain, sadness, and confusion.” I think this is the most important because a lot of people do go through a lot of problems in their life such as maybe going through a break up with someone you love or having someone very important to you die, most people would play/ sing a song instead of formally talking to other people about how they feel and most people wouldn’t like to talk. So many people would choose to just make a song and sing it or play a musical instrument expressing their feelings to the people for them to understand what they had to go through, So the tone of the song or voice in music is kinda important to know how the person feels and making other people understand how they feel.
There was another thing that she had stated which was ,”In these tough life moments, music can be a constructive way to express who you are and what you are feeling. If you are feeling particularly sad about a reality in your life, listen to a song that connects you to that emotion. If you are anxious, turn up the volume in your living room and dance around. If you are angry, grab a pillow and hit is as hard as you can while listening to your favorite lyrics.” This is indeed a fact that most of us would agree because either the tone or even the lyrics can make up who and how the person is like. For example like if a person song had kinda a sad tone to it , it would definitely have sad lyrics in the song that the singer is singing. If the tone is more of a happy tone then it would probably have happy lyrics on how the person feels on this event that have happened in their life. But most people are thought of mostly on how their songs are like even how their lyrics in the songs they sing makes what they
are. In this article that i have read in this article on “Maria A. Hernandez Music and My Feels: I can only express through song” Music is a great way to work through both the dark and the light sides of our emotions. For me, I just go all over the place with it. I truly believe that music is fantastic for happiness and emotional trauma alike.” This stood out to me because most of us sometimes we all feel like everything is against and feel like giving up sometimes in life and so this is where music comes in sometimes music can sometimes relate on how you/ we feel but can also sometimes make you feel better either maybe because of the tone of the song or even about what the lyrics of the song is saying that can relate on how you feel.
She makes a great point that we underutilize our ability to control ourselves when we let external things drive our happiness and that is the difference in so many people's lives, they wager their happiness and satisfaction on factors that should not ultimately matter.
I think music has a way of explaining something or telling a story. Music can bring up happy times, it can also bring up sad times as well. Certain songs can remind someone of troubling issues from a past, can be the reminder of someone you have lost, it can also be a reminder of many happy times; such as weddings, high school dances, or even just hanging out with friends in the back
Lets take a look at what music with emotional context is first, before I go on about these artists. When you think of music you also think of emotion but what is that really? What is an emotion? What causes an emotion? Why do we feel an emotion when we listen to the words of these artists? As started in the article “Theories of Emotion By Kendra Cherry” she stated that psychologist Cannon Bard describes emotion as a message “the thalamus sends a message to the brain in response to a stimulus, resulting in a physiological reaction.” This meaning that the message send by the artists to this listeners triggers our brains emotions therefore we are able to understand what the artist is feeling at the time. If an artist is feeling ...
For many of us, one of the most accurate and effective ways to express the feelings that really matter to us is through music. We don’t only grow to attached to songs that are catchy, but also those with lyrics that we can relate to. It is not uncommon to feel like sometimes, artists can convey the way we feel better than we could ourselves. The storybook-like lines you read at the start of this page are a collection of lyrics
... provide a natural musical medium for the therapeutic process” (Wigram 264). Song writing through music is able to reflect the state of the human soul in ways that words along cannot.
Music produces both emotional and physical responses (Clair & Memmott, 2008). It aids and improves social interaction, and provides effective communication and emotional expression. Music stimulates associations and triggers reminiscence. When experiencing recent inactivity, discomfort, and changes in
It is true that music has a compact link to our emotions. Music assists people to overcome the bad situations in their life, just like it did for Sonny, the barmaid, or some other people in the Harlem. Music has a tremendous effect on people’s minds because it makes them feel relaxed and comfortable, especially with the soft classical music. It helps distressed people stay smooth and peaceful. In fact, music is a remarkable way to ease stress.
... was meant to serve as insight as to how Brooks used the tone to create a mood that was inconsistent with an overlying theme of self-pity. She has a way with words, and I feel that this ballad is very representative of her skill as a writer.
Throughout my life, music has always been a major influence. It has the power to change my mood when I'm feeling down, but the thing I find most intriguing about music is that it doesn't always end up improving your mood: like all forms of art, it imitates life, which is not always portrayed in a positive light. The musicians that I admire most have the versatility to induce several different emotional responses in the same piece. This quality is present in most of the wide variety of music I listen to, from Russian composer Dmiti Shostakovich, to Chicago jazz band Tortoise, to California pop/rock sextet Mr. Bungle.
As previously stated, music is a way to communicate with the artist’s audience. A message could be spread by Relating with a group of people and making them aware of what the artists believes in. In the short film, the violinist expresses the beauty of the violin and sends a message of beauty as he plays the instrument. In the article “4 Reasons We Listen to Sad Music When We’re Sad” by Janette Bicknell PH. D, music and its message are explained: “Another way listeners achieve the goal of cognitive reappraisal is through seeking out music with a message they wanted to relate to. Remember the 1978 hit “I Will Survive”? I would venture that some of its popularity was due to its strongly positive first-person message” (Bicknell). Songs like “I Will Survive” have messages that could relate to the audience. One song that has a strong meaning to me is “How to Save a Life” by the Fray; having lost many friends and family within my lifetime, being able to relate with the song the meaning is deeper and allows me to have a greater connection with the
Mrs. Warren’s profession is just one of three plays that feature in George Bernard Shaw’s collection aptly titled “Plays Unpleasant” each of which according to Shaw ’force the spectator to face unpleasant facts’. Shaw had an idea, which was to highlight and challenge the role of women within society. Mrs. Warren’s profession takes a critical look at the male double standard within society and how women are objectified. Victorian society created a ridged outline where the roles of women and men were clearly outlined. The microcosm that exists in the play reveals unexaggeratedly the true extent of male dominance within society, one that was on the verge of change. The male elite attempted to suppress these changes and one of them that directly conflicted with the play was the Lord Chamberlain’s decision to ban the play on the grounds of its frank discussion and portrayal of prostitution. Shaw has carefully crafted each character within the play, so that each one offers a representation of the changes he felt relevant.
...In a nut shell, the overall message in Katy Perry’s song creates a positive impact towards listeners. Repetition in her lyric clearly shows that a person has potential which has yet to be discovered. “Boom, boom, boom/Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon”(37). The lyric tells that when the potential is revealed, it will definitely bring an individual towards unimaginable success in life. Also, for successful people, they are mostly equipped with high self esteem and persistence, Katy Perry once said that “everyone has the spark to be a firework” (Vena) where in her song “Firework,” she reminds her audience to derive strength from their inner self and build their own stone steps towards success. Also, Katy Perry tells her audience that failure will not last forever. Ultimately, people can build a better future of their own if they possess true faith in themselves.
What exactly does Christina Aguilera try to convey? How can different types of music affect people’s emotions? Music has many different ways to affect people. In some ways, it is good for the body both physically and mentally. In other ways, people think it is nice to listen to. More detailed, music has personalities, which can express what people feel. There are many observations involving different ways to express human emotions. Emotions are very interesting things, especially when they involve music. Music can have many personalities, affect people’s emotions, and be used as therapy.
Through music we are able to comprehend someone’s personality, their views, their culture, and who they are as an overall person. The music you listen to is a reflection of who you are and your own personal thoughts. As I reflect on the music I listen to I came to the conclusion that I gravitate towards songs that depict the emotions we feel through lyrics while being able to relate it to my own personal experiences.
