Having a unified communication system could greatly improve their company. Examples could include customer relations, inventory, and scheduling. Currently the team is using instant messenger, emails, texts and call on their person cell phones. The goal is to enhance current team communication and collaboration. Unified communication systems could cost anywhere from $17,000 to $1.5 million. It seems the next factor to be considered is it worth the extra expense? There is an old saying in business that if something isn’t broken then don’t fix it, but that is very far from the truth. Sometimes when doing business managers get comfortable with their business partners, and do not take the time and effort to look at what the competition has to offer. Not taking the time to look at the competition could mean a few things, one that the manager is very loyal to their business partner, which sometimes happens in character base trust, or the manager is just to lazy to do the leg work to find the best prices for his company. Not allowing competitors to compete takes away from a business ability to maximize profit, it allows one business to set prices and not meet different competitive demands. Another mistake company’s make is having someone from outside a department make decisions that someone from that particular department should be making. Most of the time the outside individual does not have adequate experience and training to make the best decision in the interest of the company.

The first task my learning team was confronted with was coming up with an effective method of communicating. "High-performing teams have extensive communication mechanisms. They communicate regularly with each other wither in person, via telephone, or through e-mail and keep those unable to attend meetings informed of the group's progress." (Teams in the Workplace, Pg. 317) We decided to use an Instant Messenger chat for its real time communication and message logging ability to allow us to keep those not able to make the chat informed.
Despite its unpopularity, teleconferencing is still used in big organizations, which have participants and branches away from each other. This technology provides many advantages: it helps to receive instant feedback and save time, money, and space. However, teleconferencing presents obstacles such as sound quality and technology failure that often put an end to the meeting. Moreover, teleconferencing does not send or communicate feelings, thus, it is much less rich than face-to-face communication on the scale of media
Technology has allowed for great advances in communication. The ease of communicating with executives across the globe has been simplified by pushing a few simple buttons. The addition of channels such as video conferencing, smart/mobile devices, podcasts, and telephones have also helped reshape how the workplace operates. With the additional channels added, the problems arise (Guffey, 2011). As a result of the variety of communication channels available, the message can be sent in an inappropriate fashion, overlooked, and there can be too much faith put into the machine.
